And there’s some rubbish about an ex-stripper policeman?

A D and and E. Hmm. Even if he does escape a custodial sentence, surely that rules out any form of higher education?

BertrandRussell · 16/08/2018 19:20

Surely Him would leave his house to his grandson?

TigerTeatimes · 16/08/2018 20:05

I guess old Lizzie has never applied a job then?

You don't have to put your exam grades on your CV but you do have to declare convictions, errrrrrm nope.

Regarding Jazzer's dayglo orange and black striped trainers - it's officially love now I'm afraid.

Bekabeech · 16/08/2018 20:09

Lizzie has learnt nothing in the last week has she?

I make lots of my own parenting mistakes but making that speech to Lily after what happened last time she saw her? And not asking her grades as the first thing she said?

Freddie is going down but will be okay long term. Why hadn't Lizzie been trying to warn him about this?

I do worry about Lily.

TigerTeatimes · 16/08/2018 20:13

I had totally blocked that out because it's just so unbelievable.

I think prison would do Freddy more harm than good but surely no one is actually worried about his prospects? (That said, how much of LL will be left for him to inherit at its current rate of decline.) Agree about Lily, she's got a tough time ahead.

BikingBeatrix · 16/08/2018 20:19

I think it’s a shame we won’t get to see the garish trainers at the wedding!

Somebody remind me, when was the last wedding in Ambridge? And l mean actual wedding, not Kirsty and tom’s fiasco.

I feel a bit sorry for Elizabeth. It’s not just Freddie that’s been sheltered. I blame Jill!

PicklingGherkins · 16/08/2018 20:21

Were it not Emmurr and Ed's?

MikeUniformMike · 16/08/2018 20:22

I hate Pip. Jill was a complete cow to Alistair.

LassWiADelicateAir · 16/08/2018 20:46

BertrandRussell

Surely Him would leave his house to his grandson?

Why? Dan will inherit from Shula, may already have inherited from Mark and may well get something from Jill too. Why should Jim overlook his own son or friend over a step grandson who already has enough?

C8H10N4O2 · 16/08/2018 21:27

Does Jim have other grandchildren through the silent sister? I thought there were two silent children there but ICBW.

witchmountain · 16/08/2018 21:37

Change counting has been replaced by a card machine!

buckingfrolicks · 16/08/2018 22:58

Poor lily.

I have boy girl twins of almost 21 and I feel Lizzies pain - trying to support one, is so often experienced as not being supported by the other one. But she did make a spectacular ball's up of that with lily. Who is also acted v well I think.

Alcina · 16/08/2018 23:02

According to his 'profile' on the Archers website (don't look if you don't want to see a pic of the actor), Jim has a daughter called Fiona. I don't recall any mention of her, ever, or of any children she may have.

Guienne · 17/08/2018 01:09

I know Lizzie's got an awful lot on her plate and all, but I find it seriously difficult to believe that she would to all the trouble of collecting Freddie's results and never once wonder about Lily's.

Guienne · 17/08/2018 01:15

I was quite glad to hear Lizzie facing up to the reality that Freddie may well end up in prison, and also to hear Lily trying to drive that fact into his thick head. It really is extraordinary that he somehow thinks it's all dreadfully unfair despite what happened to Noli and the fact that he continued even after that, coupled with the sheer volume and length of time his drug supplying involved.

I wonder if we're going to have a storyline where reality finally dawns and Freddie has the dilemma of whether to shop Ellis and (possibly) the original supplier in order to reduce his sentence?

Gruach · 17/08/2018 06:59

I won’t be pleased if they’ve gone to the trouble of introducing us to Ellis and Russ but don’t make them pivotal to Freddie’s prosecution.

Russ blatantly allowed drug dealing in the college, to save his own skin. And failed to protect a vulnerable student when he had the power to do so. He’s far more guilty than Freddie. Angry

C8H10N4O2 · 17/08/2018 08:39

I guess old Lizzie has never applied a job then?

Of the Archer brood Lizzie and Kenton are the two who have probably applied for the most jobs. David never went anywhere, according to DM Shula's job with Rodways was on the nod through a family connection. Its only Kenton and Lizzie who have held multiple jobs on their own merit.

You don't have to put your exam grades on your CV but you do have to declare convictions, errrrrrm nope

True you don't need to put them on a CV, but I've not seen a job form in years which didn't require you to mention unspent convictions. I assumed that was her point.

However as Freddy will never need to apply for a job it may not be relevant.

Lizzie is falling into the trap of putting so much focus on the problem child that she is forgetting that the good child still has needs. Its easily done.

wurzelburga · 17/08/2018 08:48

Can‘t understand how Freddie or any of his family thought the case might be dealt with by a magistrate‘s court.

Sentencing guidelines for dealing class A, even where playing a minor role, and dealing around 300 tablets of ecstacy (cat 3) start at 4 years 6 months in custody.

Even with mitigating factors ( no previous, age, death of father) it would be hard to reduce this to non custodial, particularly given his failure to co-operate with police.

He is going to have to shop Ellis. And a good barrister would throw Russ into the mix too.

Agree that Russ should be in there too.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 17/08/2018 08:55

How long does 'death of father' count as a mitigating factor?

And wouldn't it be somewhat muted by the compensating factor of 'privileged upbringing' and 'supportive extended family'?

wurzelburga · 17/08/2018 09:00

@adarkand stormy - it depends on how good your defence eam are!

BertrandRussell · 17/08/2018 09:14

I so want Russ to get his comeuppance. I hate Russ more than anyone.

wurzelburga · 17/08/2018 09:25

Agree that Russ has no redeeming features or any mitigation for his behaviour.

Even Knob had a dreadful controlling narc mother to help explain some of his behaviour.

witchmountain · 17/08/2018 09:52

I so want Russ to get his comeuppance. I hate Russ more than anyone.

Me too. If he was real, no doubt there would be something behind his behaviour, but either way I hope everything comes out and he has to deal with the consequences.

Hopefully Lily will learn from it as well and won't spend the next few decades pursuing doomed relationships with unavailable older men.

Gruach · 17/08/2018 10:07

I hope they won’t need to get to the stage of mitigating a sentence. Am not up to date on duress (or anything else!) but completely trust that Ambridge Law is flexible enough to allow it to form a defence. Ellis specified the crime Freddie was to commit. And underlined the threat with a brick through a window which could have caused serious injury or death.

Ellis and Russ goin’ daaaaaahn. Freddie to be bundled off to SA.

BTW - why was Usha needing thanks? I thought she’d passed the case to someone else? (I also didn’t think she did crime ...)

birdsdestiny · 17/08/2018 10:07

I would be surprised if they don't give Russ his comeuppance, he is not a real character in a sense, so we don't need to worry about his reasons why. I am a bit obsessed with Russ and the law, surely covering up the drug dealing is illegal even if his relationship with Lilly isn't.
