So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

FGS - all this moaning about the thread title - please keep up the good work PB and D3, or anyone else who wants to, of course. I was readying myself to do it last night - but worried about being presumptuous- had I done and in absence of better suggestions I'd have gone for something like RIP Nic, and be feeling crap this morning that the omnibussers were complying.
If you're not listening in "real time" you're just going to have to suck it up that spoilers will happen.

RubyLennoxExists · 24/02/2018 09:33

Complaining NOT complying

If it was Jolene declaiming Gruach we’d have to amend the thread title to read “I sacked her Kenton” Grin

RubyLennoxExists · 24/02/2018 09:35

Can all the complainers come up with a better title then?

swimminginthesea · 24/02/2018 09:35

I cried all the way through, and I don't have feelings either way for Nic and Will. It was just so SAD.

And with a bit of imagination, it would have been perfectly possible to write a fitting but ambiguous thread title; I think it's mean-spirited to put a spoiler in the title right after broadcast. (And it's "ungracious" to protest?! Oh, please. I enjoy the discussions on here but do not feel indebted to "thread-starters.)

There are lots of MNers who for whatever reason can't listen live. You may be right that it's fair game post-live-broadcast, and you can argue it over and over, but some consideration wouldn't go amiss.

RubyLennoxExists · 24/02/2018 09:35

It's easy to complain when you're not doing the job yourself.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 24/02/2018 09:35

Well I was 'spoilered' by this thread as hadn't listened last night. I immediately listened on catch up and even though I knew it was coming (maybe even because I did?) I found myself proper sobbing in the kitchen.

I think it was because Nic is a similar age to me, leaving behind her children, she was so distressed and scared. It hit home. Sad

What job? You can't be serious!

peartree it’s not ungracious if the people complaining about the thread title aren’t regular users of the Archers threads (and therefore not people who are kept entertained and engaged by the thread regulars).

No one is saying the storylines shouldn’t be discussed on the thread, it’s just that people (like me) who don’t regularly follow this thread but who do listen to the Archers would like it if big giveaways weren’t posted on the title.

I do avoid things like twitter if I haven’t yet watched the mastechef final - that’s a no brainer. I probably wouldn’t avoid
MN as it’s accepted not to have a thread title with the winners name in (and these get quickly edited by MNHQ if they do).

I don’t think anyone could reasonably expect any Archers listener to avoid the whole of MN at all times if they’re a tiny bit behind (like not even a day!) just so that the Archers thread can have exactly the title they like?!

You’re right that there are other pleasures of the Archers but I know that regular posters on this thread don’t appreciate even the mild spoilers you get from reading future episode synopses so I’m sure they also appreciate that it’s nice not to know big giveaways in advance.

People are only asking for a bit of consideration in the thread title, it’s not a big ask really.

It’s taken me so long to write this as I keep getting interrupted I expect the thread has long moved on. Sorry!

LillianGish · 24/02/2018 09:50

I agree Francis - ridiculous to think we should all sit around writing in code until everyone has managed to catch up. I never listen on time, but specifically popped on for an update last night to find out if I needed to listen immediately so I could join the discussion (which is what this thread is for after all!) I dropped everything for a 15 minute catch-up - joined by DS who was keen to listen knowing he was guaranteed drama. Welcome back Pseudo - you’ll be wondering why you bothered.

Two things: I am always careful to avoid the hour around TA when booking Ocado deliveries. Anything else is madness.

He was booked for 8pm and the bugger turned up at 7.10!

plimsolls · 24/02/2018 09:51

lillian just the title! Just the title! SmileSay what you like in the actual thread, no need for code Confused

Vango · 24/02/2018 09:52

Very ungracious remark (and others like it) about the kind efforts of those who keep us entertained and involved by putting up new threads.

I also agree. No-one new ever volunteers to start a new thread. THANK YOU VERY MUCH to those that do. Flowers

CallYourDadYoureInACult · 24/02/2018 09:55

Excellent thread title. Good to have you back pseudo

I ha e always disliked Will but the recent nails in his coffin were when he got arsey that Caroline had dared to leave Ed money, and his attitude to women in the cricket team

LillianGish · 24/02/2018 09:56

Apart from anything else it’s a great title Grin

That was bad luck though ...

And with a bit of imagination, it would have been perfectly possible to write a fitting but ambiguous thread title

But usually we have a couple of days to think about it. In this case, it was more like a couple of minutes. And no one is being paid to do this.

I think the title is fine. I'd have been a lot more pissed off with the BBC if I'd gone to their site to catch up, because they have Nic''s death and info on sepsis seconds after the episode ended, so impossible to avoid. (As it was, I was only there to find out how old Jake and Mia are now.)

NorthernLurker · 24/02/2018 09:59

Complaining about spoilers on a website or social media is really tedious. You don't want to know, don't go online.

FiveShelties · 24/02/2018 09:59

Francis yes you did ask me, sorry I missed your post as it was the last one on my page.

I said I was going back to lurking as I felt it was causing so much trouble about a programme I really enjoy - I do not want to argue about it, I just hoped that fellow fans would not want to spoil episodes for other fans. It is really difficult in NZ to listen to the programme live, unless you get up really early!

I honestly had no idea that no-one wanted to start a new thread.

swimminginthesea · 24/02/2018 09:59

No-one new ever volunteers to start a new thread.

That's absurd; these threads go up within seconds of the last ones filling up. If they didn't, someone else would start one, just like with all the other topics on MN. But no one's going to bother starting a parallel thread discussing all the same topics, what would be the point?

I didn't look at MN before I listened, so it didn't spoil it for me. But i can see that people are annoyed, and i would have been too in their shoes. No one's asking anyone to write anything in code, just to avoid putting spoilers in the titles, is it really so hard?
