So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

I can't believe that Brine tried to explain the dumping of stuff via trying to provide for JD and HER two children......

So low! Shock

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/02/2018 19:46

I think class/education would come into it. The fine nuances of the British class system make Kirsty and Phil a better fit than Kirsty and Will.

Tivvymum · 25/02/2018 19:49

I have got it!
The reason these two storylines are rolled into one....
Jennifer's soooo going to end up shagging the gamekeeper a la Lady Chatterley!! Can hardly wait for Jennifer to finally give Brian a taste of his own medicine....the slimey toad has got away with everything for too long. There has to be karma in the end.
Can't wait for the divorce proceedings. That's when it will get really REAL.

Vango · 25/02/2018 19:51

For the first time tonight I realised that I don’t care if Brian and Jenny split up. What impact would it have? Adam has little respect for him, Debbie’s off the scene, Ruairi’s at boarding school. I suppose Alice might take it badly but I can’t bring myself to worry too much about her.

Maybe it’s just bad timing. Brian’s self inflicted business woes don’t interest me right now. Sad

Gruach · 25/02/2018 19:52

Wouldn’t Kirsty and Will be a bit Christine and George?

Certainly not a possibility that’s ever entered my head! But ... Nah. There’s no way Kirsty could ever want to become a Grundy. Lovely as they mostly are.

Tivvymum · 25/02/2018 19:52

Also - I thought the whole death scene, much as it made me cry, was almost ruined by the horrible doctor. "She's a bit up against it" .... who even says that about a person dying. It's what you say if you're a little bit busy at work. Definitely not a synonym for 'go to your wife now and get the children - she's dying'.

sallywinter · 25/02/2018 19:53

As far as I can remember it was Josh’s fancy new car in the garage post crash? Happy to be corrected. Cause Rex had to drive him about in the taxi.

TeenTimesTwo · 25/02/2018 19:54

I think Jenny and Brian divorcing would make an interesting storyline which they haven't done before (as in one of the landed farmers divorcing). With all the children with different parents and interests in farming it has the potential for massive discord.

I'm not sure Jenny would do it though as it would be counter to Adam's interests, perhaps?

Vango · 25/02/2018 19:55

Blush Nearly forgot about Kate! Would she care? Not that much.

Gruach · 25/02/2018 20:01

Actually, it would be hugely, ironically wonderful if, after all the shagging around, it should be loss of trust over a business deal that split Brian and Jenny up. Certainly would be a massive story.

Only thing is that the SWs are so utterly useless on legal matters.

BikingBeatrix · 25/02/2018 20:11

I can see where Jenny might be going. He‘s lied and betrayed her so often before. This might well feel like the last straw. Whether she has money enough to live separately esp if Brine does prison time or has a huge fine, l don’t know. But she might be getting one-third of Peggy‘s estate at some point so she could be okay.

I must say l envy Jenny. But only because she seems to be one of these women who cooks and cleans at times of extreme stress; all l do is knit and sleep (and l sometimes buy more yarn than l have space and time for) so everything just falls apart around my ears. I‘d prefer to be a cooking and cleaning type. Smile

BikingBeatrix · 25/02/2018 20:15

Vango, the real loss of them splitting would mean us losing the good acting of Charles Collingwood, but l agree none of the other characters are likely to miss Brian the character.

Abra1de · 25/02/2018 20:24

I’d miss Brian. He is authentic. He is boastful and dishonest but very loyal to his tribe in terms of providing shelter and food. He’s a grain baron but really a baron proper.

Vango · 25/02/2018 20:30

True Beatrix. And yes, I’d miss Brian too. Great actor, decent storylines.

Madcats · 25/02/2018 20:34

Never mind that. Thank you so much to somebody much earlier in the thread who alerted me to the fact that Alexa has a BBC radioplayer skill.

About THAT crash...wouldn't it have made quite a dent in a car?

I've never really understood how Ambridge still has policeman and journalists.

And then there's Kefir; surely Lexi and all the poly-tunnellers would have given them a recipe that worked and some of their grandmothers' grains?

Peartree17 · 25/02/2018 20:41

But wouldn't Jenny keep quiet in order to preserve the value of the business for the children? She's not going to dob Brian in if she thinks the welfare of her brood would be affected by that. As for their marriage - I suspect there will be a period of cold estrangement, and then something will happen to bring them together again. I can't see them splitting up. But perhaps I am too cynical about Jenny and her capacity to absorb any amount of Brian's lies and crap in order to keep her posh kitchen and winter sun holidays.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 25/02/2018 20:43

Re divorce: Brian and Jenny are both over 70 and I am sure have decent pensions, so Jenny could leave on her pension, or kick Brian out and stay at Home Farm if it survives the shock of the contamination episode. Perhaps Lilian could come and stay with her for good when it finally goes belly-up with Justin.

Home Farm might have to be sold anyway if the fines/legal bills mount up to much, but Brian also seems to have holdings in BL.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 25/02/2018 20:44

I imagine Jenny would stick by him until it blows over but who knows what might happen if it comes out that Brian knew.

Bekabeech · 25/02/2018 21:35

The big difference from Brian's previous affairs, and Jennifer found it very hard to forgive him after Siobhan and it was siobhan's death bed begging that made her take on Ruari. But the big difference now is that Brian doesn't own home farm, it is a family trust and he only has 2 shares, Jenny also has 2, as does Adam and I think Debbie, the others have 1 each.
Do not only could he lose BL, he could lose most of Home Farm.

Mootsie · 25/02/2018 21:41

Has anybody seen Call The Midwife tonight?

Daren't say too much because of spoilers but it seems the BBC is determined to spread the word.

cheminotte · 25/02/2018 22:11

I’m always a week behind with Call the Midwife, so will watch it next Sunday.

Eastpoint · 25/02/2018 22:41

From Lowfield, Wednesday 1st November

‘At Brookfield, Jenny and Jill discuss possible venues for Peggy's upcoming birthday do. As Pip arrives, Jenny comments how miserable Shula is looking of late. She should be basking in her Hunt Ball triumph. In addition, Brian is miserable about the courtesy car he's been given while his car's being repaired.’

I’m now going to go back further & see who drove Brian’s car around the time of the ball. .

Joe will be tormented by the Deathbed Confession and sooner rather than later will have to share with Alan and all of us that Nick took the money that Alf was exiled for. She spent it on children's shoes. Willyurm's reaction will be worth waiting for.

Oh, and did I miss it? Did Carol Tregorran DIE?

(I was going to NC but CBA, to Lexi’s Midnight Runner) Grin

This story line has brought me out of "retirement" too -
It was SUCH a shock on Friday
Tonight's episode was a bit of damp squib in comparison.

NB I also had mentally killed off Matt Grin
