So it’s taken a sad, untimely death to bring me out of retirement. How I have missed you all Flowers

Blimey it’s busy here for a Saturday! Doubly beaten to it on the alcohol point...

Francis we'll have to agree to disagree. I did say how grateful we were for the thread and yet you continued to accuse people of being mean-spirited. I hate snippiness so leaving this alone now.

Buxbaum · 24/02/2018 13:05

It's illegal to serve alcohol to someone who is drunk, and to buy alcohol for someone who is drunk; laws which are broken countless times every Friday night, of course.

What Nic did was fraudulent, however. She should have refused to serve Alice or spoken to Kenton. Of course if the witness theory is correct then it explains why she didn't.

LillianGish · 24/02/2018 13:09

It’s funny because I felt in a way the Nic/Alice cocktail scene was there to demonstrate to listeners that Alice has a problem and that we weren't the only ones who had noticed in case we were in any doubt. Nic had to carry the can for that - I’m not entirely sure that would have happened in real life. I think in that situation she might have spoken to Kenton (who is after all Alice’s cousin??) and he could have pulled rank as the landlord if necessary. It was one of several out-of-character things Nic did in the weeks leading up to her death. I don’tthink We know Nic saw Alice driving the car that knocked down Matt - that is pure speculation on here (I agree with the previous poster who said who cares anyway - he’s still alive, he’s fine, he’s gone).

Vango · 24/02/2018 13:22

I’m pretty sure she tried. Making a bigger deal of it (other than by leaving the gin out of Alice’s
Mohito) would have drawn too much attention. I believe Nic was only trying to protect her, and to avoid a row. If there was one thing that characterised Nic for me over the years it was her avoidance/dislike of confrontation.

Was Will around at the time of Matt's accident? I'm wondering whether there's any reason he wouldn't have noticed a dent in the car.

Vango · 24/02/2018 13:31

But more recently she did stand up to Will - was it about the election?

It’s not that she couldn’t stand up for herself. I never thought she had any problems asserting herself when necessary. But in the pub scene Alice wasn’t going to engage in a polite debate about whether or not she’d had enough alcohol. If Nic knew what I now suspect she knew then I can understand why she resorted to her hasty plan.

DadDadDad · 24/02/2018 13:35

MNHQ have edited the thread title! Shock

What is it, something about stable doors and bolting horses? I am sure Shula would know.

StarsBrokenAgain · 24/02/2018 13:35

I'm going to snitch on the lot of you to Alan. The St Stephens Building Fabric Fund won't know what to do with all the money.

Smile

Thanks for all the useful links about various people, I had not realised that Nic and Will had been together 10 years! 10 years that them and Ed and Emmur have been being grumpy with each other. How stupid.

Also surely that makes George about 14? The way they talk about him I imagine him to be about 3.

StarsBrokenAgain · 24/02/2018 13:37

Shock D3. I am of the "could have left it there about fifty posts ago" camp.

Anyway, why are we assuming the whispering was to do with Matt Crash? Could she just have been feeling bad about falling out with Emmur etc again? The sort of thing you would regret at that point...

I HATED how scared she sounded and said she was. Scary and very sad.

For a moment, I read that as you giving a rating to last night's episode. Grin

I quite often lurk on these threads ( was doing so earlier today) and used to comment a while ago, but haven't recently.
Anyway, totally randomly, I was visiting a charity website where people can contrubute to needs for specific individuals and came across this It is a young man who is in hospital with sepsis and needs help with rent arrears.
It is a well regulated charity. It is a Christian one but recipients don't need to be Christian, just to be in need. This particular appeal expires today.
Because I'd come from reading this thread, it kind of jumped out at me and I wondered if anyone felt like doing a random act of kindness ( In memory of Nic Grundy?!). You have to register for the charity website but can opt out of receiving any other info from them and donations can be made by paypal so it is easy.
I don't have any connection with this individual or the charity, it was just something I happened to see.
Please ignore if you think it isn't relevant or appropriate and if you are in financial difficulties yourself, I'm really sorry and weasn't trying to upset anyone. I was just trying to be helpful to someone. I've dontated btw.

OuaisMaisBon · 24/02/2018 13:43

What was the point of editing the thread title? Anyone going to listen on the BBC iplayer would see headlines about Nic's death on the BBC Archers' page in any case.

Butteredparsn1ps · 24/02/2018 13:47

Ah ha.

My binge listening has reminded me that Jenny's car had a light out recently.

Red Herring or clue do we think?

Limer · 24/02/2018 13:49

The thread title was a spoiler for me Sad

Popped onto MN 1st thing this morning and caught sight of it in Active. Couldn't "unsee" those words!

Just listened to Sun-Fri's episodes (as is usual for me on Sat morning while cleaning) and knew what was coming the whole time Sad

LassWiADelicateAir · 24/02/2018 13:51

I've had a million minor cuts & scratches (that I didn't much look after ) & that didn't fester or make me ill. I fear main effect of this storyline will be to provide unhelpful mega-fodder to the folk with health anxiety

Me too and by the standards of many MNetters live in a squalid, feline over- run hovel. So far as health anxieties am one of French & Saunders' "Stuff & Nonsense" country women.

Yet this morning at around 2 a.m however I was thinking to myself " oh I feel a bit cold tired and poorly" (yes because the heating had gone off and it was 2 in the morning)

I can't believe the title for the thread has been edited. People wittering about spoilers really need to get a grip.
