I really enjoyed Serial and the one with Catherine Keener (can't remember what it was called Blush)

Anything new - in the last year or so?

I use Pocket Casts, you have to buy it but you can find everything on it and it's got a really nice interface.

trumptown · 02/02/2018 11:33

I love Casefile, Serial Killers, Unsolved Murders, Cold Case Files (although the presenter's voice can get on my nerves a bit sometimes but the content is good), Conspiracy Theories, The Black Tapes (fiction), They Walk Among Us, Sword & Scale, Dirty John, Limetown, They Walk Among Us...

trumptown · 02/02/2018 11:36

Scabbersley TuneIn Radio is good. DH uses RSS Radio.

DrRisotto · 02/02/2018 12:17

On Slate Working, search for the UN official one, it explains how to coordinate for a crisis it's totally fascinating

I like Richard herrings Leicester Square Theatre podcast. He has interviewed some very interesting and funny people.

RHLSTP

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 02/02/2018 13:44

Most of my favourites have been mentioned, but I will add these two:

My Career Crisis - this one is super, really sound advice for women having career issues.

Nerdette - interesting people talking about stuff they are obsessed with. Even if you aren't into the thing they are into, it's fascinating to listen to.

Planesmistakenforstars · 02/02/2018 14:22

If you want something along the lines of Serial - a series looking at one case, then:
The Accused (the first series is the best of this type I've ever heard)
Breakdown (very neutral and factual)
In The Dark (brilliant & the case was solved while it was made)
Bowraville (a bit biased, but still good)
Gone at 21 (Made by a PI, a bit convoluted, but interesting)
Stranglers (AMAZING look at the Boston Strangler killings)
Unsolved - A Murdered Teen
Missing Alissa
Missing & Murdered - Alberta Williams
What Happened to Vishal?

I agree that Casefile is the best true crime podcast that mostly covers a different case each episode. Already Gone and Thin Air are both excellent, and in a similar vein but concentrating on missing persons.

slug · 02/02/2018 16:21

Cult Podcast - Similar format to My Favourite Murder, but about cults. The terrible sound issues get resolved around episode 5 or 6.

The Infinite Monkey cage - Prof Brian Cox and Robin Ince chat about science with a panel of invited guests. Informative and funny

Richard Herring's Lecister Square Theatre podcast.

cariadlet snap! this is my list of podcasts almost to a t Grin
being a professional linguist, the allusionist is my favourite!

Walikingdeadfan · 02/02/2018 19:16

Thanks for this - some great ideas.

I also found the Carrie Gracie podcast on china really interesting.

And if you after some things which aren't crime, Freakonomics is great. I also recommend the Broad Experience, which is about women in the workplace and has really interesting interviews an viewpoints on things like career development and office life.

Deux · 03/02/2018 00:50

What a great thread. I love podcasts so it's great to get some recommendations.

Phoebe's Fall I found fascinating. It's about a young woman who was found in a rubbish chute. The verdict was suicide. This looks deeper at the facts and raises questions that weren't covered at the inquest.

Crime Writers On is a good one for finding out about other podcasts.

Undisclosed is a brilliant comapanion to Serial season 1. It was a lawyer listening to Serial who did some digging on the Adnan Syed case who ....... No spoilers.

Just a tip on This American Life and their back catalogue. If you google you can find a list of all episodes ranked by listening figures,or A best of all time kind of thing. Some of the top episodes predate the podcast and are fascinating but I think you may have to listen via their own website.

There's one about 2 babies that were wrongly switched at birth and it's about how their lives turned out. Another is one about a doctor who takes over a rural medical centre and he happens to have the same name as his predecessor. The previous doctor was imprisoned for killing his father. The new doctor,s curiosity was piqued about the circumstances of this murder. And well, it was fascinating is all I can say.

Oh and any sweistsmout there, there's the Love To Sew podcast.

Deux · 03/02/2018 00:51

Sorry, sewists out there.

ThePointlessWhiteCrayon · 03/02/2018 02:53

For anyone recommending The Black Tapes have you listened to The Magnus Archives? It's a fabulous paranormal anthology. Starts off as seemingly individual statements given to the Magnus Institute and then common threads start to come through linking to an overarching story. It didn't hook me straight away but now I love it and have listened to it twice. It's a fabulous series which deserves greater recognition. It's currently part way through season 3 so lots to binge on and still lots to go. Apparently there will be 5 series and the ending is already planned so it won't be a damp squib like the Black Tapes.

LollyLarkin · 03/02/2018 06:24

liquidrevolution all the cool kids call it “r-h-l-st-p”. I love Richard Herring’s podcast so much, and you’ve got so many to chose from!

The West Wing Weekly is good if you’re a fan of The West Wing. They’re going through each episode in detail and interview some amazing people.

Another vote for Adam Buxton too, always singing his Ramble Chat song.

Tanaqui · 03/02/2018 06:54

50 Thigs that made the Modern Economy is really interesting- each one is v short, about 10 min.

Also like radio 4’s The Inquiry (goes into a current world news story), and most of the Friday Night comedy.

RockySpeed · 03/02/2018 07:02

@maras2 hello! I LOVE tales of the city, I must of read the series 10 times! Where on earth can I find these podcasts please? I’ve done a quick search on the iPhone app but nothing has shown up Grin
