I really enjoyed Serial and the one with Catherine Keener (can't remember what it was called Blush)

Anything new - in the last year or so?

following - all I've really listened to is S Town but it was awesome. I started this american life which is good but I've forgotten it a bit - will have to go back to it

ginteresting · 01/02/2018 21:23

I'm obsessed with Bob Mortimers podcast- 'Athletico Mince' it's not high brow but it's bloody hilarious. It's meant to be football related but it really isn't, it's just nonsense.

DispatchReady · 01/02/2018 21:26

Accused is very similar in style to Serial - I've just seen there's a second season but the first one is about Elizabeth Andes and is fascinating.

Missing Richard Simmons

True Crime Profile

Dirty John

Those who watch Walking Dead - there's a good podcast called The Talking Dead which discusses each episode.

Going to add Untold to my list after all the recommendations.

Adrift!

It's hilarious 😂

BabySocksNeverStayOn · 01/02/2018 21:30

Stuff you should know, Thinking sideways and The Unexplained. Gets me through the boring tedium that is housework.

patientzero · 01/02/2018 21:33

Thinking Sideways - covers unsolved mysteries and is just great!

k2p2k2tog · 01/02/2018 21:42

Have enjoyed lots of the ones mentioned here - Serial, S-Town, Dirty John.

Loved Someone Knows Something by the Canadian broadcasters, more the first series than the second. Up and Vanished is another in the same vein, worth a listen.

If you're into current affairs, Murder in the Lucky Holiday Hotel is about the Chinese ruling elite and by Carrie Gracie - very interesting. Also currently listening to The Assassination by the BBC world service, which is about Benazir Bhutto. There's also a really good drama podcast called Homecoming which is about weird things happening to US soldiers with PTSD.

Mistydampandwet · 01/02/2018 21:44

I just discovered Fortunately from the BBC love it for a feminist perspective
Also love The infinite monkey cage R4 for science and the longest shortest time particularly the episodes about the guys who have a baby they are surprisingly illuminating

I also like Standard Issue (another feministish podcast), more or less (statistics), 99% invisible, No such thing as a fish (QI researchers), How I built this about entrepreneurs, Freakanomics

I have electric tastes!!

TheVanguardSix · 01/02/2018 21:49

Yes, Casefile is really excellent for any true crime enthusiasts. The Casefile Moors Murders 3 part series was incredibly well done.

RosinaAlmaviva · 01/02/2018 21:51

You Must Remember This by Karina Longworth - stories of old Hollywood. Especially recommend the Joan Crawford mini-season. She did a season on Charles Manson, too.

Tom and Lorenzo's Pop Style Opinionfest - fashion, celebrities, movie and tv reviews.

Just discovered Pod Save The Queen - royal news and gossip.

Allthecarbs · 01/02/2018 21:57

Anyone that likes MFM should listen to all killa no filla. It’s the British —better— version.

Also love Adam Buxton and constantly have ramble chat going round in my head [grin)

Partridgeamongstthepigeons · 01/02/2018 22:20

As a Partridge obsessive 'Monkey Tennis ' is great Smile

Mistydampandwet · 01/02/2018 23:27

Yes All Killa no Filla is great for anyone who is obsessed with serial killers!

FairVerona · 01/02/2018 23:45

Fortunately with Janet Harvey and Fi Glover is very funny

FairVerona · 01/02/2018 23:46

Jane Garvey ffs. No idea who Janet Harvey is.

Koalablue · 02/02/2018 00:52

Im currently loving TheBillPodcasts.
Its an interview with the old cast members of The Bill. Very funny at times and some interesting stories from behind the scenes.

CrabappleBiscuit · 02/02/2018 05:55

This is great, I haven’t really got into despite listening to a lot of R4...but that was getting a bit depressing so being able to filter with a podcast sounds good.

cariadlet · 02/02/2018 06:15

I've got quite a variety:

loads of Radio 4 programmes

1A

99% invisible - interesting programmes in themselves, but I could listen to Roman Mars reading the telephone directory. I love his voice.

Ear Hustle

Embedded - going behind news stories

Freakonomics

Hidden Brain

Invisibilia

Kermode and Mayo's Film Review

Rhod Gilbert's Best Bits - chatting about nothing, good for when I want something light to listen to

Simon Mayo's Confessions - the only podcast that regularly has me laughing out loud

Sincerely,X - from TED radio, but stories that need to be told anonymously

Stuff to Blow Your Mind

Stuff you missed in history class

Stuff you should know

TED radio hour

The Bugle - topical comedy

The Guardian's Audio Long Reads

The Moth - people telling stories on stage in story slams. Huge variety and range from the hilarious to the extremely moving. Absolutely brilliant

The Allusionist - about words and language

eurochick · 02/02/2018 06:42

Great thread.

I'm listening to Capital at the moment and like the Radio 4 comedy podcast. Serial was good too.

eurochick · 02/02/2018 06:43

Ted talk podcasts are really interesting.

dirtyprettything · 02/02/2018 07:04

Untold - The Daniel Morgan Murder is fantastic and horrifying in equal measure

falang · 02/02/2018 07:27

I listened to The Adoption after a recommendation from here. Excellent.

homebythesea · 02/02/2018 07:34

Fortuneatly by Jane Garvey and Fi Glover makes me laugh out loud in dog walks (must look like a loon) -best if you are over 40

For the Many by Jackie Smith and Iain Dale is a great roundup of the week’s political stories from both ends of the political spectrum

This American Life consistently fascinating

Ramblings because Clare Balding

Political thinking by Nick Robinson - more in depth interviews and commentary

Scabbersley · 02/02/2018 08:59
