Thank you R4 for the title.

Even if the infection is not her fault (or not prove-ably so), I can't see how Pip won't admit to the cows getting out. She's going to have to tell David and Ruth and that's enough for me. Another slip of the halo so soon after asking for the refused loan.

Pip is really learning all of a sudden that you reap what you sow.

Thanks for the info dfw. Hope the rest of your calving is relatively trouble-free.

EsmesBees · 19/03/2017 06:47

Yes, thanks dfw. I'll admit to listening whilst trying to do bedtime for my two year old so I missed the discussion about the cost of vaccines. Fascinating all the tiny decisions that go in to our food production that end consumers like me have no idea about.

ppeatfruit · 19/03/2017 09:10

Makes me mad, the quest for cheap food, very few consumers, even ones who could afford to pay more, think about the producers and what it costs them. Sad

We buy organic and dh (who is the meat eater) can TASTE the difference in the quality of the beef.

MouldyPeach · 19/03/2017 09:25

Delurking to shout YES PLEASE re the cute calf pics dairyfarmerswige Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 19/03/2017 09:32

DFW - do you actually need to ask if the TA thread would like cute calf pictures?Grin

StVincent · 19/03/2017 11:05

I've been off MN for a bit so am THRILLED to see that "Huge Canoe" (which I think originated with me hearing a slightly garbled CA) has stuck Grin

I'm also enjoying his work. What do we think all this with Pip is leading up to? A leaving the farm to live with "Tobes" somewhere else at which point they become equally feckless and unemployed?

Vango · 19/03/2017 11:15

Jim has just made me laugh out loud....

"While I can occasionally veer near to the borders of being a tiny bit critical..."

What a fabulous line 😂.

Vango · 19/03/2017 11:17

I'm going to start using that line. Still chuckling.

ppeatfruit · 19/03/2017 11:19

Lil is behaving like an 18 yr old boy whose girlfriend has fallen in love with him. She wants her 'freedom' and 'funtimes' FGS grow up Lilian. Bit late now of course Grin

StVincent · 19/03/2017 11:22

Well IME people around 70 who've been through the mill multiple times are probably the group who want to get married/settle LEAST!

TheAntiBoop · 19/03/2017 11:25

How old is Justin?

ppeatfruit · 19/03/2017 11:34

Good question TheAnti Grin I watch a lot of repeats of Upstairs Downstairs , they must be 35 or more years old. Simon Williams was in his 30s then. He must be approaching 70 like Lil .

TheSilveryPussycat · 19/03/2017 11:36

Vango me too! Rings very true for me Grin

TheSilveryPussycat · 19/03/2017 11:39

/mode wistful

Anyone remember Judy Bennett voicing all the children in all the R4 dramas? or so it seemed...

/shows age

TheAntiBoop · 19/03/2017 12:16

I don't think Lillian wants to be stuck with a retired old man!!

BluePheasant · 19/03/2017 12:43

Just caught up with the film, struggling to keep in in the week atm. Thank you Pseudo as ever for keeping these threads going.

Sounds like it would be impossible to figure where the infection came from. Josh certainly needs to be more careful with hygiene as he's going round all over the place looking at machinery. I hope they don't lose too many, poor cows Sad

Can't help but feel a little bit sorry for Justin but at the same time, what a plonker! It's pretty presumptuous of him to say the least! Can't decide which way this is going to go!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/03/2017 12:43

Justin has burned his boats with Miranda - he should settle down in Ambridge and join Jim and Robert for birdwatching and various Last of the Summer Wine type of exploits.Grin

BluePheasant · 19/03/2017 12:44

Oh and something I've been wondering... do Miranda and Justin have an children?

Gumpendorf · 19/03/2017 12:44

St Vincent, according to recent ONS stats, there has been an increase in marriage for over 65s. It was featured on Woman's Hour last week.

Justin is on trend and Lilian isn't (yet)

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/mar/14/opposite-sex-marriages-increase-ons-divorce-remarriage?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

I'd be a bit nervous if I was Lilian. It was Justin who suggested the FB arrangement and then suddenly he's all commitment. Scary.

Megatherium · 19/03/2017 12:50

Did we clock that bit of moral blackmail in Justin pointing out to Lill that he was going to go through an expensive and complicated divorce all for her sake?

TheSilveryPussycat · 19/03/2017 13:03

Megatherium you could take it that way, I suppose. Me, I'm just an old romantic, and I thought he was sincere...

BroomstickOfLove · 19/03/2017 13:35

I wouldn't marry Justin. I think that his desire to marry Lilian is sincere, but a man who makes the assumptions that he has done would make a really bad husband.

ppeatfruit · 19/03/2017 16:46

Broomstck I bloody would Grin like a shot , have you seen Simon Williams? Meh what are a few assumptions? Lil makes them too.

Matt was far less of a catch and Lil wanted a proper relationship with him

AuldHeathen · 19/03/2017 18:17

Ppeat, what on earth is a 'proper' relationship as opposed to, say, a 'relationship'?

I wonder how often Justin has been married. We've not been told, have we? I have a feeling he's not on his 'starter marriage' unlike Alice and Chris of course. Grin Justin sounds like a serial marrier to me. I've no idea what he looks like but my mind tells me enough.Smile

AuldHeathen · 19/03/2017 19:27

Well, I was hoping Eddie would mention the cows getting out last week. Surely Ed said something to his dad in passing.
