I confess to thinking about you at the start of Lent @DDD, wondering whether I should give up MN. Instead I'm doing Dechox for March.

BluePheasant · 04/03/2017 22:40

I'll join you under the Team Miranda banner.

As much as I love Lillian, I can't stand the way she is behaving with Justin. The writers are making Miranda unlikable and snobby in attempt to make the listeners feel the affair is all fine and dandy. I feel pretty patronised by it all tbh!

TheAntiBoop · 05/03/2017 09:19

Agree blue. Like we are going to fall for the whole 'my wife doesn't understand me' line.

I didn't think much when she was having her affair with Matt but at least it wasn't written in with all its gory detail

R4 · 05/03/2017 09:46

Lillian missed a trick at the party. Two tricks, actually. She should have been the life and soul of the partyâ„¢. This would make her look good in front of the In Crowd and, in contrast, make Miranda seem even more sniffy/grumpy. Lillian should also have flirted outrageously with every man in the room so that, when Miranda tries to accuse her & Justin of shenanigans, Lillian can claim that she's overly friendly with all men and Miranda is reading too much into an innocentHmm working partnership.
But Lillian never was the sharpest tool.

DadDadDad · 05/03/2017 09:48

Gosh, I didn't know I was such a Lent trailblazer. I think I've gone to pot since, sitting here still in my dressing gown, having just eaten a pancake (didn't get round to them on Tuesday). Blush

We got this in celebration of 50,000 posts --> Archers

So for 100,000 I expect no less than a party at MNHQ. Wine

On topic, my mind is still reeling at the idea of Lillian doing the dance of the seven veils in a corner of the sitting room.

And I agree that Miranda has been badly treated by Justin, but I do think her snobbiness is bordering on the cartoonish. Surely, she'd have more graceful manners?

CeciledeVolanges · 05/03/2017 10:12

I almost hate to ask, but what is the dance of the seven veils? I'm living with my grandparents so don't really want to google it on their wifi!

mummytime · 05/03/2017 10:37

The dance is the seven veils is a biblical reference: Salome danced it for her Step father King Herod at his request, in return he gave her the head of a John the Baptist on a platter. It's generally taken to be an erotic striptease type dance.

OutToGetYou · 05/03/2017 10:51

I can't stand Justin, pompous arse, and his voice makes me want to hit the radio (he always, sounds like he needs to cough). So I think Lillian and Miranda should go off together and leave him to it.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 05/03/2017 10:58

So for 100,000 I expect no less than a party at MNHQ
I expect no less than a party at Home Farm, with catering by Fallon - but go easy on the pies please as like Miranda I'm not a huge pastry fan. But broccoli will be fine, and plenty of whatever else made the Mayor unwell. Grin

Gherkinsmummy · 05/03/2017 11:08

Listening to the film, why is Brian doing coats? You'd think they'd have someone to open the door, take coats and top up glasses.

Gruach · 05/03/2017 11:20

They absolutely would!

GrumpyOldBag · 05/03/2017 11:34

Good point.

They've got caterers, so there'd almost certainly be a couple of spotty teenagers brought in as well to hand round canapés etc.

That's what happens at parties round here.

And, yes, as I've said before, I think Miranda would have better manners. She might be inwardly hating everything & looking down on it but she'd save her observations for the car journey home.

ppeatfruit · 05/03/2017 12:42

I thought that Lil and Just's visit to the races was interesting because her and Paul also flaunted their affait there. It started to go wrong from there if I remember correctly. Lil has always been sexually driven, and a bit stupid in her pusuit of men , that's just her.

Imbroglio · 05/03/2017 13:19

Really not liking Jenny at the moment. She seemed a bit jealous of Brian enjoying Fallon's food and it wasn't nice of her to pretend the cornucopia idea was hers.

Gherkinsmummy · 05/03/2017 13:54

I couldn't really understand the catering arrangements. The point of bowl food is that it's carried to guests on trays like oversized canapés not served buffet style. Also, Justin is horrible. Miranda should leave his sorry arse

CeciledeVolanges · 05/03/2017 15:00

Is it possible that Jenny didn't want to trust teenagers with taking the coats of particularly illustrious guests such as the Mayor or Miranda and Justin (who is Brian's boss, isn't he?) she seems to like keeping a tight rein on things generally.

CeciledeVolanges · 05/03/2017 15:03

Ah, I understand! I knew the bit about the Bible but i hadn't grasped the connotations before. Thanks for the explanation :)

Shallishanti · 05/03/2017 17:26

I hope JD's outrageous lying re the cornucopia comes back to bite her. She will be mortified when she discovers it was all thanks to Jim.

redshoeblueshoe · 05/03/2017 17:57

I think Miranda and JD could become friends. I think Miranda is behaving like she is because she is aware of the affair, and thinks everyone is laughing about her. I didn't understand why they didn't enlist Lily or some other teen to do coats, serve drinks etc.

witchmountain · 05/03/2017 18:11

Thanks Avocado!

GrumpyOldBag · 05/03/2017 19:18

Why is Miranda staying at the hotel instead of with Justin?

And so begins Kirsty's breakdown ....

R4 · 05/03/2017 19:22

They are not going for any awards for subtly atm. Cartoon characters a-go-go.

BertrandRussell · 05/03/2017 19:26

"And so begins Kirsty's breakdown" Yep. Because heaven forfend that a woman can be strong and capable and independent........

BertrandRussell · 05/03/2017 19:27

I think Miranda was just going for a swim....

Dumdedumdedum · 05/03/2017 19:32

Ever suffered a late miscarriage, Bertrand? Because if not, you have no idea, and if you have, I am sorry for your loss and I'm glad for you that you were able to recover from it rapidly, but we are not all the same.
