At every corporate party I went to over the last festive season the "thing" was Bowl Food ie small portions served with a spoon or fork to eat standing up. So I imagine that's what Jenny will be going for. It's the zeitgeist.

witchmountain · 02/03/2017 20:46

Can anyone tell me what the music was that Jenny had on in the background yesterday?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/03/2017 21:17

This made me snigger. (From Twitter)

Is there really such a thing as allergy to broccoli, or is it just a convenient way to avoid eating a vegetable that you don't like?

redshoeblueshoe · 02/03/2017 21:29

TheAntiBoop · 02/03/2017 21:34

I once had a 5yo round after school with ds. I asked him if there was anything he didn't like. He told me he was allergic to broccoli. His mum confirmed he's not!

What is in broccoli that is unique to it?

cheminotte · 02/03/2017 21:34

Not given up Mumsnet for Lent this year then DDD ?

ThatsNotMyToddler · 02/03/2017 21:51

Just catching up. That's the Ruth voice I hate. That stupid breathiness (is that a word?) and fake sincerity. I may have found the scene with Tom touching if it hadn't been Ruth in it. Oh well at least it's over now. Fingers crossed we don't have to listen to her visiting Kirsty as well.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 02/03/2017 22:10

Apparently people have a genetic disposition to taste or not to taste the bitterness in broccoli.
I've heard of allergies to kiwi and tomatoes, but not broccoli.

mummytime · 02/03/2017 22:11

From my extensive research there seems to be two kinds of broccoli allergy, one to broccoli and one more generally to salicylate.

Megatherium · 02/03/2017 23:02

Loving the idea of Brian taking the Mayor outside to show her his massive seed drill.

Imbroglio · 02/03/2017 23:13

Spluttering over the image of Justin and his cream horns...

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/03/2017 01:30

The party has to be a disaster hasn't it? I mean really - we can't really have spent all this time in the lead up to it for nothing?

Isn't rabbit a slightly odd choice? I grew up in the countryside but I do think it's a meat that even some meat eaters are a bit squeamish about.

DadDadDad · 03/03/2017 07:58

Wow, cheminotte, it's been a couple of years since I gave up MN for Lent - I'm amazed you remember! Was it really that significant?

Anyway, I need to stick around - we might make the 75,000th post before Easter.

mummytime · 03/03/2017 08:47

I liked last nights episode, them making use of Rex's job as a Taxi driver, and him even making Anisha become a little more human.
And Ruth and Tom - please Tom do go to Brazil!

TheAntiBoop · 03/03/2017 08:51

Can Ruth take his place?

LillianGish · 03/03/2017 09:02

I liked Ruth last night and I thought she gave Tom good advice. I hope he takes it. I also like Rex and Anisha - did we detect someone had helped her put up the money to buy into the vet practice?

redshoeblueshoe · 03/03/2017 10:13

I thought Ruth was being totally fake last night. I think she was behaving in a done that, worn the T-shirt way. I don't remember her even discussing Helen, or visiting her in prison. now even her voice is totally annoying me

birdsdestiny · 03/03/2017 10:26

I don't like Ruth particularly, but I thought she was kind to Tom last night. I think her voice is due to the acting rather than the character being insincere.

SingingAvocado · 03/03/2017 11:55

witchmountain Jenny was listening to Sound The Trumpet from Henry Purcell's Come Come Ye Sons Of Art.

I liked the CA talking about removing the feather being 'an Ambridge chat up line'.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/03/2017 13:02

I thought Anisha was as annoying as ever.

Re swanking up the reception area in the surgery, vets have featured for my whole life for various reasons. Not once has the state of the reception area been a consideration.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2017 14:19

I don't like Ruth when she's doing what she was at the start of the episode - pandering to her offspring, instead of telling Josh to bloody well help his dad. But I thought the conversation with Tom was fine, it didn't sound fake to me.

fairycakecentral · 03/03/2017 16:43

Hello, not a frequent poster but I do often lurk Grin

I do agree that Ruth's voice is a bit annoying but I also find Kirsty's and Adam's annoying, and Lily and Freddie, Kate and Alice (or is it Phoebe, Kate's daughter) even more so. But her conversation with Tom seemed really sincere and heartfelt.

Is it Jennifer's party tonight? I'm looking forward to that!

Could someone answer a question - was it LilliN who had the affair with Paul? I was a causal listener then, one voice seemed the same as another more or less but I don't remember the phnarr phnarr dirty laugh back then. Probably mis remembering,.

LillianGish · 03/03/2017 18:00

It was Lillian who had the affair with Paul and she did have her dirty laugh back then though perhaps not used with such great frequency. In fact your post raises an interesting point and I think it's fair to say that Lillian has become rather more of a a caricature than she used to be be which is a shame.

rissabirnie · 03/03/2017 18:45

I think that Lilian had less to laugh about during her affair with Paul too. She was cheating on Matt and her relationship with Paul appeared more serious (and tortured and abusive if I recall) than her dalliance with Justin. But yes, she is being drawn with somewhat broad strokes at present.
