LillianGish Totally agree, the Jim/Emma chat was the sort of character-based pootling Archers that I like. I'm not after too much high drama, or the dull, heavy-handed twaddle of Harrison's cricket cobblers.

Love hearing a bit of Latin from Jim.

There was something particularly pleasing about the combination of Jim's classical allusions and Emma's culinary interpretations (its's years since I've seen a cream horn)

When Tom was talking about giving up the scholarship he sounded like a stubborn teenager, not a man in his 30s. I assume someone is going to give him a massive kick up the backside, and ask him what the hell he thinks staying around Ambridge and moping will achieve, and I'm a bit surprised it wasn't Kirsty. I suspect it will be Helen.

On another tack, these episodes without Pip or Toby have been a real breath of fresh air.

Kirsty did say it wasn't what she wanted, and what did he think he was going to achieve - but she shouldn't have to be putting energy into Tom being a petulant child.

Maybe Helen could take over?

I rather doubt that scholarships work on the basis that if someone decides they don't want to take it up they can hand over to their relatives.

It must be a mix of the person and the project and the interview process was very much about Tom

But when Tom applied for this he was full of "this is for Helen, it was her idea, I'm setting the ball rolling for her for when she gets out of prison". He now seems to have forgotten his Dsis and her dependents and wants to give it all up for a baby that no longer exists and an ex who isn't interested.
