What do we want?
Realistic storylines!
When do we want them?
As soon as the writers see this!

Her previous poor judgments are neither here nor there, much like a rape victim's previous sexual history is neither here nor there.

enochroot · 07/02/2017 19:05

There are things in Helen's past which contributed to her being a potential victim. She was already fragile after Greg's suicide, despaired of having a meaningful relationship, prone to eating disorder.
She can't really be blamed for any of these things any more than she can be blamed for what Rob did to her.
If anything, one major contributory factor was Pat's failure to see Rob was manipulating her - and we commented often enough how out of character that was. The SWs wrote Pat in a way which made her blind to what was going on under her nose and kept her away from Helen when the abuse was at its height. That was done for dramatic effect.
Then again, we have also commented frequently on how Helen has been able to bend her parents to her will for years and years, certainly before Rob came on the scene.
Rob, being a skilled abuser, recognised a family dynamic that he could utilise.

Anisha is annoying. I assume she hasn't lived in a small village before. So Alastair told her to share her story with Susan so as to get it into the open.

So how much has josh ripped Tony off?

TheAntiBoop · 07/02/2017 19:10

I didn't realise grange farm was so big - was it that big when the grundy's owned it the first time

Vango · 07/02/2017 19:10

Pat's a victim too, as far as I'm concerned! Rob is the only person to blame. He carried out the abuse. No-one else - except maybe Ursula.

EBearhug · 07/02/2017 19:12

Who's Big Eric? We haven't just heard from him in ages - I don't think we ever heard that Fat Paul had a brother at all.

Vango to my mind Ursula is a victim and a perpetrator. Bruce, and whoever brutalised him, is a perpetrator and so on back through the generations.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 07/02/2017 21:49

Personally I would rather be thought of as the person who got drunk than the person who cheated. I'm really disliking her.

TheAntiBoop · 07/02/2017 21:51

Yes that's what I thought!

I hope she gets better. i hope this is just teething troubles trying to get her settled

Although I fear financial ruin for Alastair which would mean financial ruin for her and then she will be gone I guess.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/02/2017 08:39

It's brilliant, isn't it? Grin

ppeatfruit · 08/02/2017 09:36

I was referring to the fact that she was so desperate for a 'proper' relationship, I remember her saying that no one wanted her after she told them about Henry's paternity, she DID want a 'proper' father for Henry. She also wanted a 'happy ever after' life (interestingly he also had that unrealistic dream ) She didn't think clearly about Knob , didn't take advice from anyone.

It's not victim blaming, Rob himself is a victim too.

I'm just wondering why she seems so vague about how to help Henry.

Thanks Grumpy, loved The Ambridge Observer!

MrsArthurShappey · 08/02/2017 13:50

'chicken fajitas' Grin

LowDudgeon · 08/02/2017 14:08

Just heard the bit where Alistair called Susan the village radio. I know she's Radio Carter on MBs but I didn't know the village called her that Confused

Imbroglio · 08/02/2017 15:12

I had a chuckle a 'Radio' as well. Keri Davies used to moderate the old BBC discussion boards so he would certainly know it!

GypsyFl0ss · 08/02/2017 18:21

Loved the Ambridge Observer offering, thankyou Grumpy

Sittinginthesun · 08/02/2017 18:35

Love the Ambridge Observer! Thanks for the link, Grumpy.

TheAntiBoop · 08/02/2017 19:06

So who's going to be the new star of the cricket team? Freddie?

Girlwhowearsglasses · 08/02/2017 19:09

Duh. AnishA

TheAntiBoop · 08/02/2017 19:10

I'll miss you terribly - but not enough to leave his wife. Do mistresses really put up with their lover droning on about how to handle their wife?

So is anisha the star cricket player? Not so popular in Scotland though?

Girlwhowearsglasses · 08/02/2017 19:11

Cue Harrison Anisha Fallon love triangle

TheAntiBoop · 08/02/2017 19:12

Odd conversation between Jenny and Brian - given their history

EsmesBees · 08/02/2017 19:37

Very odd conversation. It's like Jenny had forgotten all about Brian's affairs. And that the rest of the village know too.
