What do we want?
Realistic storylines!
When do we want them?
As soon as the writers see this!

I think I have a calm, peaceful one. Happy to take suggestions though - have there been any pleasant quotes recently?

Could someone be paddling their own huge canoe? Or a tasting platter of tepid amuse bouche?

Hatemylifenow · 13/02/2017 07:50

Listening now. So sad Sad

Hatemylifenow · 13/02/2017 07:51

Also another note, I've not been listening as long as some of you have and I really don't understand all the Helen hate???

glowfrog · 13/02/2017 07:59

I think I will skip last night's ep. Poor Kirsty. :-(

glowfrog · 13/02/2017 08:04

Hate give it time... Grin

And I say that as someone who quite likes Helen in many ways - but yes, she can be awfully self--centred and irritating. Though as ever it's hard to tell if it's genuinely the character or bad/convenient writing (eg Henry not talking to a therapist etc).

Vango · 13/02/2017 09:00

Neither do I Hate. She's been through an awful lot and I have a huge amount of sympathy for her. But I guess many listeners won't allow her to move on from her past mistakes. People change, and I think Helen has.

I've been listening for years and years and years.

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2017 09:13

Oh Lord I missed last night's, I'll have to LA . I never thought that would've happened Sad

BertrandRussell · 13/02/2017 09:20

Bad stuff happens to women in the Archers who want to lead even reomotely unconventional lives. Because TASWAMA.

Vango · 13/02/2017 09:46

Because TASWAMA.

Are you including the women writers?

Megatherium · 13/02/2017 09:51

Bad stuff also happens to men in the Archers. Because?

echt · 13/02/2017 10:01

On another note, the chap who told Kirsty the bad news. He called her Kirsty, while naming himself as Mr. Arrogant an unmannered, or SWs who don't know the etiquette of titles.

And while I'm here, this is the umpteenth episode of TA where someone tells someone else not to be silly after expressing worry/concern. How fucking rude is that? It's a plague in the TA scripts and such a pisser, a classic unthinking dismissal of the validity of the first speaker. Why not: I'm happy to help, it's no bother to me?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2017 10:04

because it's a soap and bad stuff happens more than IRL. Bad stuff also happens to some of the women who want entirely conventional lives. I'm not totally convinced the storylines are more sexist than real life.

Yes.

Vango · 13/02/2017 10:24

How differently we hear things.

Vango · 13/02/2017 10:37

Oh, and Tom's lost a baby too.

EBearhug · 13/02/2017 10:53

Does Tom yet know he's lost a baby? It wasn't clear to me if he had made it to the hospital. I think they had told him he should go there, but nothing more, that I heard.

Vango · 13/02/2017 10:55

That comment was in response to the misogyny accusations.

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2017 11:05

Ref. Misogny in TA. I agree with Errol and Vango. Also I remember we have had this conversation before and (most of us) came to the conclusion that TA reflects RL so neither specifically sexist or otherwise.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2017 11:12

I think there is some unrealistic misogyny - but more the stuff like Alice, with a good engineering degree somehow morphing into a bit of an airhead.

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2017 11:19

There IS some snobbery about farming on here though , why should being involved with high tech farming machinery be more air headery than aeronautics?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2017 11:22

No, it wasn't that aspect I was thinking of in the least (hadn't even occurred to me that high tech farm stuff might be viewed that way) - it was the idiotic way she was behaving re presentations and the thing with Ed.

Abraiid2 · 13/02/2017 11:35

I don't think the scriptwriters are misogynistic. No more than real life.

There's a new thread (pseudo's post at 10:09), so move along now... Smile
