Anthea would be good at invoices etc.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/01/2017 22:16

Confusedextend the overdraft by quarter of a million?

Has Ruth always been like this? I always used to rather like her, solid hardworking farmer.

TheAntiBoop · 31/01/2017 23:35

Just read lowfield and pip sounds totally pathetic.

Anisha and allistair need to speak to a financial adviser because that is a very poor gamble they are making

Do you think she is a charlatan who goes round getting quarter of a mill here and there by getting a practice into debt before signing the papers?

Timetogetup0630 · 31/01/2017 23:54

In real life a vet would have at least a receptionist, an administrator and a veterinary nurse. There are very few single person practices these days. It's just not viable, being on call all the time in a large animal practice.

CeciledeVolanges · 31/01/2017 23:56

I don't know, my horse was not often wildly out of control perhaps because I just always chatted to her: lots of "good girl", "move over", "whoa now" in a low, calm voice. If I had chucked her in the mouth or put her in a situation where she was whinnying to her friends I probably wouldn't have been on her back/holding on to her for very long. And if you start shouting or sounding alarmed the horse picks up on it.

JessieMcJessie · 01/02/2017 00:00

There's Denise the vet nurse I think?
Agree it would be FAB to see Anthea as the practice manager!

EBearhug · 01/02/2017 01:14

Obviously vets don't have to deal with all the Governmental bullshit paperwork that we do

There's plenty of governmental bullshit paperwork in a veterinary practice, especially a rural one which deals with cattle and pigs.

Ah yes EBear - had forgotten about that sort of paperwork. I guess I meant the constant rounds of NHS reorganisation and data returns etc

LeninaCrowne · 01/02/2017 07:41

I read somewhere that vets are having tough times at the moment with quite a few going bust, and others on quite low incomes after paying all their costs.
We listeners know that Alastair is shit with money (has he ever paid back the mortgage Shula took out to pay off his gambling debts?).
Also the stables - how much is Shula's and how much belongs to the vet practice, can Anisha bulldoze some stables to build a fancy pants horse examination/treatment centre?
Wouldn't he agree to look closely at the figures and run them past an accountant first, rather than capitulating to Anisha?

echt · 01/02/2017 09:01

On the money.......Pip said she gave the cow money to Tobes, not loaned. More ordure about to hit the rotary blades.

I can't decide whether the SWs are fucking stupid and have forgotten, as noted upthread , Ruth's epic antipodean flounce based entirely on the grounds of David not consulting her, or they're playing a long game where she becomes Ambridge's uber-bitch and divorces David/stuffs Jill into a culvert.

TheAntiBoop · 01/02/2017 09:07

Divorces David and splits Brookfield down the middle

Her character development has been horrible over the past 3 years. Maybe we are going for a crappy menopause sl where she suddenly discovers herbal medicine and becomes nicer immediately. Or maybe I am thinking too badly of huge canoe

Cromwell1536 · 01/02/2017 09:29

Oh, I would so love Ruth to divorce David. I have often wished over the years for that marriage to break down and this awful family to vanish from the scene. They really have become increasingly unlikeable, and I have no idea why the scriptwriters seem to believe in them as a template for a 'strong family' all mutually supporting each other in running a farm. The Corleones had more mutual respect and consideration for each other!

LillianGish · 01/02/2017 10:00

I did think that the "It's a gamble" line persuading Alistair to fall in with Anisha was fairly heavy signposting for what lies ahead.

ppeatfruit · 01/02/2017 11:04

Please don't wish that angst on us Cromwell . Grin

People aren't always consistent, though. People will do things they have complained to others about doing.

enochroot · 01/02/2017 11:14

I'd like to press a reset button on Brookfield. Choose your preferred restore date.
I'd go back to the day Pip left to take up that wonderful job offer far away.

ppeatfruit · 01/02/2017 11:15

Yes EBearhug I completely agree with you. In fact not only are they not always consistent , they hardly EVER are IME. I've been on an 'obese' thread and people are complaining about very fat friends who are always 'judging' others for being the same !

Vango · 01/02/2017 11:19

People aren't always consistent, though. People will do things they have complained to others about doing.

Agree that people behave inconsistently and sometimes appear to have double standards, but..... I can't believe no-one's ever alerted Ruth to some of hers? Christmas was a prime opportunity, as she kept banging on about what she wanted. I'd have been hard pressed to keep my mouth shut.

user1475253854 · 01/02/2017 11:22

One of the (many) things I hate about Pip is the way others in the village are all admiring about her and we're supposed to think she's this impressive young woman. There's being a fool in love and making mistakes and then there's giving your feckless boyfriend 5k. They are not one and the same.

ppeatfruit · 01/02/2017 11:32

Another thing about Ruth. I know how much I love my children (unconditionally) I didn't love my MIL like that. Blush

Vango · 01/02/2017 11:33

But she "believes in him" user Confused......based on no evidence. Whatsoever.

ppeatfruit · 01/02/2017 11:35

Agree, user Pip hasn't always made the wisest choices in her love life Grin

redshoeblueshoe · 01/02/2017 12:27

Maybe Pip is called Pip because the apple didn't fall far from the tree Archers
