Avoided a non-sweary title.

I'd quite like Ben to be the future of Brookfield, silent and locked away in the cereal cupboard, getting more airtime than the rest of them put together.

Vango · 29/01/2017 23:00

It's a shame that Brookfield's ended up as it has. I used to like David and Ruth's partnership, and Phil'n'Jill were lovely grandparents. When did it all go wrong? I can't remember which came first, was it Pip and Jude or Ruth and Sam? Whichever. They've never recovered from either.

TheAntiBoop · 29/01/2017 23:32

They've lost their way with pip. She needs to disappear to Brazil for a year and come back a nicer person

Imbroglio · 30/01/2017 04:12

Well lots of them have had time away... kenton, adam, tom, helen....and minnesota seems to be the land of opportunity. Maybe debbie will give her a job in hungary.

Imbroglio · 30/01/2017 04:13

What's the betting miranda is booked in at home farm for her wellbeing break?

I thought the "spiritual retreat" sounded like Kate's little enterprise.

CeciledeVolanges · 30/01/2017 07:33

Pop had a minor driving accident too in the Jude era

Vango · 30/01/2017 08:28

I think I've tried to rid my mind of those memories Francis so they've merged. I really really really hated those storylines. Never really liked either of the characters again.

Puremince · 30/01/2017 08:37

Pip has had a character change with each boyfriend. She was Pip the Rebel with Jude, Pip the farming wonder with Spencer, Needy Pip with Matthew and now she's Sulky Pip with Toby. Who knows who she might become with the next boyfriend? Pleasant Pip? Interesting Pip? We can but hope.

CeciledeVolanges · 30/01/2017 08:52

How about Pleasant-Voiced Pip?
On a tangent, I always think about Pip going into school with shorts over tights and David's reaction whenever I see men cycling in the same clothing!

Brillig · 30/01/2017 09:14

It's unfortunate that they've had two tries at casting Pip and failed so badly with both of them. The previous actress was dire enough (I'm still getting over the horror of the Joooooooooooooooode SL) but this one is actually worse, I think.

Please God let the truth behind the Brighton mystery be unveiled post haste so Pip can enter a prolonged period of silent misery.

ppeatfruit · 30/01/2017 09:15

I'm going to stick my neck out here . Everyone complained about the last Pip. She's got some personality , she's a girl but not girly for sure. They can't win on TA.

I LIKE David and sort of like Ruth , they seem a run of the mill sort of family to me. What do you all want the Holy Family? Grin

TheAntiBoop · 30/01/2017 09:18

I preferred old pip. She was annoying but you could see that she was immature

New pip is selfish and arrogant and has been since she appeared - regardless of boyfriend. And the actress is not suited to radio.

And sure she's not 'girly' but she seems to get round men because she has sex appeal. Apparently.

Vango · 30/01/2017 09:26

I like David too ppeat, and I like Josh and Jill. I'm sure I'd like Ben too.

The Pip actress is awful. Her delivery is unnatural. I'd like the character more if I didn't feel like she was reading her lines for the first time every time she appears. She's also been given some rotten storylines over the last few years.

Ruth needs to be a bit kinder to her immediate family before I can start to like her again. They've presumably got loads of money now, reasonable good health (does she ever have any check-ups??) and a fairly secure future. I don't know why she always sounds so full of angst (to my ears anyway).

TheAntiBoop · 30/01/2017 09:30

I don't mind the other Brookfield archers - Ruth is irritating atm and the characterisation has been a bit wonky for a few of them lately but I'm sure huge canoe will sort that

But I can't bear pip for both the character and the actor. Old pip wasn't a trained actress - this one is apparently - I'm assuming she didn't take any radio options though.

LowDudgeon · 30/01/2017 09:36

If we're still wondering about car crashes the one with Ed'n'Em in Will's "borrowed" car was pretty dramatic

Vango · 30/01/2017 09:36

Part of the problem, I guess, is overexposure. Maybe I wouldn't mind them so much if they didn't dominate whole episodes. I need a bit of balance.

redshoeblueshoe · 30/01/2017 10:16

I don't know why people want Pip to dump Tobes, I want him to either dump her, or whisk her away to live in Brighton.
Vango I totally agree with angsty Ruth she's miserable and moaning all the time.

crumpet · 30/01/2017 10:24

This Pip models her delivery on whatshername in Twilight. Odd pauses, odd emphasis on words. It's identical.

And just as annoying.

crumpet · 30/01/2017 10:24

Twilight Pip.

CeciledeVolanges · 30/01/2017 10:52

I have to say, I find Pip's delivery ten times more annoying than Kristen Stewart's because of the weird accent issue. However, at least we can't see Pip's rapid blinking, wobbling head and half open mouth at the same time.
(PS I don't mean to suggest I could do a better job than Kristen Stewart, and my voice is annoying, but at least I don't put it on the radio and get paid)

Megatherium · 30/01/2017 10:58

I really don't see how you can describe the Brookfield mob as a run of the mill sort of family. What run of the mill family decides to sell off the family farm and completely uproot to the other end of the country where they know no-one, purely because of the possibility of a road affecting the farm and to be near an old lady who has a local support network? And if they do, what run of the mill family would decide they had to move when their children are in the middle of GCSE and A level courses? And what children in those circumstances would fail to kick up a hell of a fuss about leaving their friends and everything they know?

Then there's one of them effing off to NZ and deciding on a whim to stay there for weeks over Christmas, the reliance on a woman in her 80s to do all the cooking and housework, before you get on to the bratty daughter whom the parents treat like some sort of wunderkind and the fraudulent older son who is allegedly a business whizzkid.

Megatherium · 30/01/2017 11:01

I get really irritated by the tone of voice illustrated by Pip at the beginning of yesterday's episode - it's sort of jolly hockey sticks mixed with trying to sound lascivious when talking about virtually anything to do with bed, mixed with indulgent mother talking to slightly wayward child. I don't understand how any man could bear to live with that all the time.

selsigfach · 30/01/2017 12:03

For me it's the constant sucking in of air through her teeth. Does Daisy Badger (or indeed anyone in the production team) actually listen to how she sounds when she's doing it? She sounds like a cowboy mechanic.
