Avoided a non-sweary title.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that I really don't like nicknames! Just can't type them 😳.

I wonder if Justin might decide to sell his stake in BL after all? Didn't he mention how much Berrow was costing? I think the return of Stefan and the imminent land purchase must have negative implications for Brian somewhere along the line.

enochroot · 21/01/2017 11:41

I'd be interested to know how much leeway he has.
We're told that the main outline has been laid down for ten years or so into the future so can a new editor change this?
For example, if SOC decreed that Toby will marry Pip and control Brookfield are we stuck with that or can Huge Canoe write out the Fairbrethren altogether if he sees fit?

Vango · 21/01/2017 11:43

I think he can do what he likes.

enochroot · 21/01/2017 11:43

Good!

TheAntiBoop · 21/01/2017 11:45

I can't imagine socs view of the next ten years is legally binding. Thank god!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/01/2017 11:55

Yes, I would have thought that a new editor can make quite significant changes. SOC did. As I recall, we were mostly quite impressed by his new directions in the first few months, as Vanessa Whitburn had seemed to be editing on autopilot the last year or two. That was the time when HWMNBN was whingeing away what felt like half of every episode. SOC got rid of him in short order, and what a relief that was.

Vango · 21/01/2017 12:06

Yes, and Matt's involvement with the elderly couple happened towards the end of VW's watch and felt very out of character to me at the time.

I'd like Damara to sell up (cheaply) to an anonymous buyer (turning out to be Crawford Holdings) so that we can start again. It annoys me that we never found out what Justin's 'links to the area' were, especially since he was prepared to pay £7 million for Brookfield (with a road through it). His character has very little depth. I don't know why he's there.

LillianGish · 21/01/2017 12:21

I can't imagine socs view of the next ten years is legally binding I always thought Knob was based on SOC and that they shared many character traits (I imagined SOC railroading the SW and actors to institute his character changes to fit in with the plot) now I'm imagining him bad mouthing everyone in a Knob like manner as Huge Canoe steers the programme back on course. I don't watch EastEnders so I have no idea what effect he's having over there.

MrsArthurShappey · 21/01/2017 12:30

LillianGish Apparently there is an interminable plot line in stenders about bins at the moment that has viewers complaining that it's too much like The Archers Grin

enochroot · 21/01/2017 12:30

Agreed that getting rid of HWMNBN was a good move by SOC.

I suspect Justin's character is a product of SOC's predeliction for big-named actors.
If anything, I would like HC to try to work in a bit more vocal diversity for the young actors who are obviously going to be TA's future. I can't tell them apart unless they are constantly referred to by name. Lily, Phoebe and Alice sound exactly the same to me, other than Lily's having a similarity to Jess' voice.

TheAntiBoop · 21/01/2017 12:32

I read something about how two characters had birthdays on completely the wrong day. Which seems like socs style

TheAntiBoop · 21/01/2017 12:57

Article in guardian on gas lighting

Tim stimpson said that once they knew it was an abuse sl they decided it would end on Helen stabbing rob.

Disappointing really

LowDudgeon · 21/01/2017 15:19

I thought Berrow had closed down & been demolished?

TheAntiBoop · 21/01/2017 15:21

I guess the paperwork is taking longer

Vango · 21/01/2017 15:31

Presumably the land hasn't yet been put to alternative use? There may still be some buildings and equipment in situ (with associated security/utilities costs)?

Stickerrocks · 21/01/2017 15:34

Apologies if this has already been mentioned further up, butPseudo's latest thread has been linked on TA FB page & they've copied her idea.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/01/2017 15:54

They do credit MN, though.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/01/2017 15:59

Vango - pehaps you and anyone else who doesn't like nicknames can perform a public service by referring to the editor by his proper name from time to time so that we don't forget it and newcomers are less likely to be baffled? Smile

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/01/2017 16:05

Huw Kennair Jones = Huge Canoe

I actually think that nickname is very good, at this stage when he is undoubtedly wondering how to paddle his way out of the increasingly narrow creek SOC steered the good ship TA into. Grin

Vango · 21/01/2017 16:11

I know, I know 😳.......don't mind me. He's HKJ to me. But now that the thread's gone viral, Huw, if you're reading, loving your work so far!

Putthetulipsthere · 21/01/2017 17:28

Haven't posted for ages but just wanted to say I loved Friday's episode. TA has been so good since SOC swapped Ambridge for Albert Square.

I was at a friend's house and a few of us were listening. A big cheer went up when Justin mentioned Stefan 😀😀. I had absolutely no idea that was coming. I hoped Justin was going to take Rob to account for Barrow Farm accounts or milk yields, but in fact he mentioned that AND Stefan. At last some of SOC's extremely loose ends are being tied up.

Putthetulipsthere · 21/01/2017 17:31

But I am concerned Rob may attempt to run off with Jack to Minnesota/ attack Helen/Tony/ Pat or anyone that stands in his way. 😗😗

TheAntiBoop · 21/01/2017 17:38

Toby and pip hopefully

EBearhug · 21/01/2017 17:51

I don't watch EastEnders so I have no idea what effect he's having over there.

SOC has been killing characters off in EE. I catch two or three episodes a month, so was a bit puzzled about there being a funeral earlier this week. I think the summary is that we're well rid of him, which won't be a surprise to anyone.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 21/01/2017 18:12

Yeah Rob has gone, that is all.
