Roll up roll up! It's nearly Apple Day in Ambridge. Grab a slice of Borset apple cake and see who's got the longest peel in The Archers.

I'm so happy with the return to the little things. Enjoy the new thread!

The spreadsheet thing probably means that if there were a 'which archers character were you quiz?' - DDD would be Roy

DadDadDad · 12/11/2016 08:58

Spreadshit is an old joke on these threads. It sounded like something Charlie might have on his PC to tell him the optimum time to do muck-spreading.Smile

DadDadDad · 12/11/2016 09:04

DDD would be Roy Shock

Hmm, I can't say I particularly identify with any character (maybe a younger David?) so sadly you might be on to something.Blush

CheesyWeez · 12/11/2016 10:39

It was NOT A SPREADSHEET just a list with rows and columns.

Grin Made me laugh out loud!

enochroot · 12/11/2016 10:41

I took it as further proof that the SWs read this thread.

TheAntiBoop · 12/11/2016 11:17

Do you wear polyester and old football shirts?

redshoeblueshoe · 12/11/2016 12:24

If the sw's did some googling the might find the story of the explosion at the illicit vodka factory in Lincolnshire.
Now there's a few contenders we could get rid of.
I think Pip is just bored of Toby now, and is thinking of moving on to Rex

DadDadDad · 12/11/2016 13:13

I don't wear polyester, but I'm not that bothered about clothes, so if someone bought me a polyester pair of trousers I'd probably wear it without thinking too hard about it. So, I could have been a bit like Roy - but I've got a wife who helps to keep me going in the right direction. (I also think I'm probably a bit brighter than Roy... Blush).

GrinIts not a spreadsheet!

Ah, so Justin is the bastard we always thought he was. Hope Lillian wises up and ditches him.

Shriek · 12/11/2016 19:59

Gonna seriously have to do the catchup tommorw!

This is a great history thread of past alliances and misdeeds!

Geretrude · 13/11/2016 10:42

So Rob is now going to be Justin's henchman?

And how exactly does that fit with him wanting to be accepted into to Borsetshire society? Confused

EBearhug · 13/11/2016 10:54

He wants to work out who is currently doing Matt-like things - not that he necessarily knows anything about Matt's history, but in any community, there's bound to be someone who doesn't quite play it by the book.

Did Stephen Chalkman (Matt's dodgy business partner) end up in prison?

SerendipityPhenomenon · 13/11/2016 10:55

Listening again, it was interesting that when Rob first rang Lill he was really enthusiastic about the Amside property, saying that it was exactly what he wanted and being very eager to push forward as quickly as possible. So it made it all the more obvious that his stance about only inquiring out of pity all the more unsustainable.

Not sure that I approve of Justin becoming a bastard again. It's consistent with his original characterisation but totally inconsistent with him taking part in Lynda's previous production, the relationship with Lill, and generally wanting to fit in in Ambridge. And from a business point of view, it doesn't make sense to have a farm manager who has conspiracy theories and a persecution complex about the most prominent families in the area and the family responsible for running some of the most important areas of Justin's business.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2016 11:01

"Not sure that I approve of Justin becoming a bastard again."

Do you think he's ever not been? I think all the geniality' should been an act. He's been onRob's side all along- and doesn't listen to Lillian unless he wants to.He will have something to say about her not letting him that house, you mark my words..........

enochroot · 13/11/2016 11:17

Can someone explain to me what Justin's up to/ planning to do?
I hoped to grasp it by listening to the film but missed it.

Vango · 13/11/2016 11:44

I conclude that Justin's a baddie, as originally portrayed when he made his offer for Bridge Farm when the road looked likely to go ahead. What is yet to be revealed is why he continues to be remotely interested in Ambridge now.

He identified Lillian as a lonely, soft-touch with great connections, and won her over easily with flattery and money. Pointing Rob in the direction of Amside was a little test, I think, of how malleable she is and how loyal to her family (ie Brian).

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that Matt will return and save the day.

Wasn't his wife talking about Justin's past affairs and going on about Lilian being past it when Lilian could hear?So Lilian should be partly aware of what is agreed in the marriage, though there's none so blind as them as won't see.

PseudoBadger · 13/11/2016 12:31

I need to catch up - with the programme and the thread!

birdsdestiny · 13/11/2016 12:41

Yes I think he was always a baddie and is using Lillian. Would Justin's type of man not look for a younger model, as implied by Miranda. He is using her. I think eventually be will ask her to choose where her loyalties lie, with him or with Helen/rest of Ambridge.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 13/11/2016 16:17

Don't shout if this has been mentioned but Ian is in King Lear at the Old Vic with Glenda Jackson (who was astonishing)

Vango · 13/11/2016 16:43

I don't think anyone's mentioned it Lass! I heard Jane Horrocks being interviewed yesterday and it sounds like a fantastic production. GJ is 80!!

witchmountain · 13/11/2016 16:50

Thanks Lass! I saw that last week and thought it sounded like Ian but then forgot to check. Agree, Glenda Jackson was amazing, enough to make up for the very long performance and insufficient number of intervals!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 13/11/2016 16:51

I saw it on Friday. Glenda Jackson is misty astonishing. She's doing 6 evening performances and a matinee each week. Celia Imrie is Goneril, Jane Hortocks is Regan and Rhys Ifans is the fool. It would not be my first choice as a play but with that cast I thought I had to see it.

Ian plays "unnamed genleman" and is very decent and Ianlike

Putthetulipsthere · 13/11/2016 17:18

I wasn't sure what to make of the Knob/ Justin conversation, except to think that it seems that the only reason Justin has taken on Knob is for him to do his dirty work. But I'm hoping this will mean that in some way Knob trips up and his earlier financial misdealings at Damara are uncovered by Justin. Probably hoping in vain, but it would be a satisfying end to his new career.🤔
