Orange Is The New Black in Ambridge. Just ask Helen. But will anyone in The Archers ever ask her WHY?

I reckon this thread will see us through the Euros, both footy and referendum. Await the clunky topical inserts here.

Surely people updating / reminding / gossiping about stuff is a very usual way for us to find out stuff that we weren't there for.

R4 · 16/06/2016 07:03

Which 'we' are we talking about BOOP? The gossipers or the audience?
There have been a couple of occasions recently where something has happened then it got gossiped about the next day. The relaying of the message hasn't added anything to benefit the listener - there has been no new nugget of information - it just feels like a 'in case you missed yesterday's episode, this is what happened'.

TheAntiBoop · 16/06/2016 08:50

It's definitely missing some of the subtlety

In the past you could imagine the Ian Adam sl being progressed off air and being evident in a few snippets. Eg Adam was in buying himself a ready meal earlier, or Ian is snapping at the waiting staff a lot lately, I wonder what's got into him

It all seems very clunky atm which is odd as the sw haven't really changed. Maybe they're just not feeling it

BitOutOfPractice · 16/06/2016 08:54

Yes. The audience. I didn't think yesterday's was clunky. I think it's odd that people aren't talking about it more to be honest

TheAntiBoop · 16/06/2016 09:09

I think that's what clunky (not last night because we had some good actors). When it does get mentioned it is almost dropped in whereas you would expect an almost fatal stabbing to be the main topic of conversation and rumour for weeks

BitOutOfPractice · 16/06/2016 09:18

It seems strange having a conversation with my nemesis Grin

TheAntiBoop · 16/06/2016 09:25

Would be even weirder if we were agreeing!!!

HalsallRedux · 16/06/2016 09:45

Arf @ BOOP and AntiBoop

What irritates me is that they keep slipping in these micro-moments of gossip about events to do with HelRob, then almost immediately interrupt them, and the moment is lost. Nobody ever has a proper, in-depth conversation about any of it.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 16/06/2016 10:33

Pip was unbearably vomit-inducing last night, wasn't she?

Gumpendorf · 16/06/2016 10:57

Appalled at Lillian last night. Kate brings out the worst in her.

Loved Alice - welcome back and don't go away.

Please, please don't let anything happen to JD. SOC's legacy to his successor?

It's definitely Pip and Toby then... at least in the short term

Scarydinosaurs · 16/06/2016 11:55

The problem is that SO MUCH has been exposed for Rob and yet NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT!!

Why not?? Why isn't JD saing to Shula "oh when Stephan said Rob blocked the culvert" and Shula says "well punching the Sab was pretty awful" and Iain chips in "he said the most terrible and untrue things about Adam" AND THEN THEY REALISE HE WAS KNOB ALL ALONG!

kitchenunit · 16/06/2016 12:08

Nooo Gumpendorf, Kate and Lilian was my BOOP moment last night!

I thought it was some much needed light relief. I agree it was nice to see Alice back from the dead

AND the stupid interruption in Jill's HelRob conversation. Such a clunky plot device.

kitchenunit · 16/06/2016 12:08

Sorry it wasn't Jill it was JD of course

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 16/06/2016 13:25

Scary what he said about Adam wasn't untrue and Ian knows it. Adam is a shit. What Rob implied about Helen (that she'd told everyone but Ian) was untrue and his motives for telling Ian were unpleasant but Adam is none the less really, really shabby in his treatment of Ian and he too, like Rob, deserves his comeuppance.

Gumpendorf · 16/06/2016 13:51

It was my anti BOOP moment, kitchenunit. The worst of all behaviours. Smile

Jen and Lillian talking about Helen are always interrupted. It's clunky scriptwriting.

Scarydinosaurs · 16/06/2016 13:57

small it was untrue to the extent that everyone knew about Adam's affairs and thought they had an open marriage. I do agree Adam has been shit too.

Scarydinosaurs · 16/06/2016 13:58

^^ sorry that should read "untrue in that not everyone knew about the affair and that no one thought that Iain and Adam had an open marriage."

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 16/06/2016 14:03

I found Lilian and her cackle really irritating last night - perhaps on the back of Pip's clunkingly awful dialogue and delivery, it was all just too much.

RockNRollNerd · 16/06/2016 14:16

Applauds Sara's brownie!

I get to work from home for 2 days thanks to Cereals Grin. Last time it was on it took me over 90 mins to travel what normally takes about 15 or 20 and then another 45 mins to drive back home when I gave up (you would not believe how many of the roads are either closed or jammed by cars). I declared that there was no way I was doing it again this year. Was the thing Pip & Co. were at an actual real agricultural show as well - I could imagine them thinking they'd better do animal as they'd banged on about the arable one so much last time!

Alice getting into farming will throw a spanner in any Home Farm plans won't it - I reckon the chances on Brian SOTMC have just increased quite a bit, the Ruby Wedding and grand romantic trip had me nervous already...

DadDadDad · 16/06/2016 14:29

RockNRoll - you can't be that far from me, then, as I drive the A505 to work. By chance, I haven't been in the office yesterday or today, so I've missed the traffic. Is it really that bad?

Cherylene · 16/06/2016 14:38

*The problem is that SO MUCH has been exposed for Rob and yet NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT!!

Why not?? Why isn't JD saing to Shula "oh when Stephan said Rob blocked the culvert" *

It is strange that they spent all that time running round like Miss Marple and M Poirot and meeting Stefan in the coffee shop in the wrong part of Borchester, and then forgot all about it........... you would have thought that it would stick in their minds a bit more.

Cherylene · 16/06/2016 14:39

Bold fail Blush

Scarydinosaurs · 16/06/2016 14:47

cherylene yes!! This is crazy. How can they not be dredging over every single action of Rob's- like any perfectly normal extended family and friends of someone after a break up. Especially one where the woman attacked the man- we know it was self defence, but even they could speculate as to that!

Cherylene · 16/06/2016 14:56

I am surprised they took his giving up of his job so lightly. I can see them going 'ooh errrr - I suppose' at the time, but then later saying ' we never really did find out why he was in such a hurry to give up his job - a little inconvenient with another child on the way now' It is not like Helen had a problem that required a full time carer or was terminal or something. Presumably it was well paid. You would have thought someone in that position would go on to do consultancy or something and people would have been offering suggestions.

TopazRocks · 16/06/2016 15:04

I for one cannot stand Rex's very silent but obvious panting .....
