Orange Is The New Black in Ambridge. Just ask Helen. But will anyone in The Archers ever ask her WHY?

I reckon this thread will see us through the Euros, both footy and referendum. Await the clunky topical inserts here.

Didn't Alice study aeronautical engineering? And wasn't she going to go to Canada for a super dooper job in aeronautical engineering. As I didn't see the error in the maths T-shirt it may be obvious that I'm a dimwit. But can you just transfer from that to doing GPS systems on a combine harvester??

TheAntiBoop · 23/06/2016 22:10

My friend is an aeronautical engineer and he would say no!!

SaraTheFairy · 23/06/2016 22:12

Asked husband, who is an engineer. He says the principles of engineering are eminently transferable Blush.

SaraTheFairy · 23/06/2016 22:14

Not sure I believe him though. Not after the breaking of the £50m thingummy by dropping it into the seabed.

2rebecca · 23/06/2016 22:20

Totally agree Gasp)de. I only listen to about 1 episode a week these days. No-one is in it any more. I still can't tell the fairbrethren apart and don't understand why they are in business together and theink the sensible one would have ditched the lazy one long ago but can never remember which is which not helped by them both fancying PIp who has suddenly become a sex symbol despite being the most boring girl ever.
What happened to Lilian's business? Her staying with B&J for ever more is totally unbelievable.
It went pear shaped after Nigel was killed off and got even worse after Matt left.

TheAntiBoop · 23/06/2016 22:22

They are transferable but she wouldn't go in at the same level. A bit like a brain surgeon and a heart surgeon I guess!

BlackeyedSusan · 23/06/2016 22:23

excellent list.

SybilEngineer · 23/06/2016 23:43

Alice sounds just like Kate to me Confused

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 23/06/2016 23:45

Bravo Gaspode Bravo. And hear hear.

Although....one BOOP (old skool not revised boop) for tonight. I thought Josh did some masterful acting for the '!No' (you totally cannot come to the party you creepy fucker reply to Toby) and the scene with David. Excellent teen stop-embarrassing-me acting. Very believable.

BirdintheWings · 24/06/2016 00:19

I read 'they are transferable but she wouldn't go in at the same level' and thought it was referring to Pip and the Fair brethren.
Off to rinse out brain.

Gruach · 24/06/2016 05:22

What will they find for Adam to say now? Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/06/2016 06:13

Topical insert definitely required.

Gruach · 24/06/2016 06:18

But surely Ambridge exists on subsidies? Confused

D'you think they have scripts ready?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/06/2016 07:23

I can't believe they haven't got scripts ready for all eventualities. Farming Today reported that the majority of farmers were in favour of leaving the EU. That isn't what I'd expected given the level of subsidies for agriculture.

ppeatfruit · 24/06/2016 08:15

Gruach I suppose the actor who plays Neil could've been taken ill or something.

downright · 24/06/2016 09:35

I can't tell any of the female 18 to 30 year olds apart.

I couldn't make out what the point was of having David go off the deep end at Josh rather than Neil.

David surely would have been pissed off, but given that it's not his fight why has he gone uncharacteristically nuts? Usually he's a total pushover.

Minimammoth · 24/06/2016 10:04

If they are trying to move the action to the younger Ambridge dwellers they need more engaging storylines. Yesterday's episode was boring, but we at least know Alice is going to be working in Agriculture and wants more involvement.

Gruach · 24/06/2016 10:27

Re "Events" - KD tweets:

To those who have asked: I can't comment on if/how #TheArchers will react to the news until the episode has gone out. Sorry about that.

AnnieNoMouse · 24/06/2016 10:36

When I imagine Pip I imagine a 1930's "gel" - short bobbed hair, in 1930's tennis gear, and all jolly hockey sticks, striding around and swishing her racquet/stick. Can't bear her, and hate the way she speaks to Josh (even tho's Josh is in the wrong on the hen rustling thing)
Why is Alice moving into agri? Can't possibly have a woman with a proper career outside Ambridge, is that why?

I heard Radio 4 on coercive control yesterday morning. Made me angry all over again with SOC and how the Helen/Rob story was handled. I don't want drama to be issue-based, and I know they are only fictional characters, but the handling of this SL has been irresponsible and misogynistic and I am still angry about it.

I'm not really listening at the moment, just gleaning what I can from here.

JudyCoolibar · 24/06/2016 10:49

But why wouldn't David go off at the deep end at Josh rather than Neil? Josh is 100% in the wrong. If that were my child, I would be pretty seriously pissed off, and I certainly wouldn't be shouting at the person he's stolen from.

choccyp1g · 24/06/2016 10:52

But we should have heard Neil telling Josh.

Gruach · 24/06/2016 10:55

Judy - I think people were expecting Neil to be the one shouting at Josh!

Of course David would be angry with his son - but that's hardly the crucial relationship here. We've been cheated.

ppeatfruit · 24/06/2016 11:05

As I said they probably could only get the Dave actor to do a quick ' pop in' or whatever they call it. Because the actor who plays Neil is unwell?

Gruach · 24/06/2016 11:15

I'm willing to take an (un-Cameronian) bet that it was budgetary restraints rather than bed-rest that have foxed this bit of storytelling ppeat.

ppeatfruit · 24/06/2016 11:42

Yes it's possible, but it sounded a bit cobbled together to me. In fact the last 2 eps have seemed a bit Hmm. Maybe the good SWs dare on holiday ? I'm trying to be kind here Grin
