I've just browsed Lowfield for the first time - they really don't like Pat do they!

OP posts:
GoudyStout · 07/06/2016 09:37

Or "The Borchester Blues"?

Gruach · 07/06/2016 09:54

Or "SOC's Side Project"?

It's the 18,000th episode today.

kitchenunit · 07/06/2016 10:09

Ok I know I'm behind but seriously, Open Farm Sunday has to be the most boring day out ever. Who goes to these things?

Pip: "This is how the fertiliser works"
Everyone: "Yawn"

R4 · 07/06/2016 10:31

I liked the comment on the blog: "Is 18000 a significant number?"
snurk.

Would some geek/archivist like to explain to me, please. TA is on six days a week, 312 days a year. 18,000 divided by 312 gives 57.7 years yet we have just celebrated the 65th anniversary.Confused

ameliesfolly · 07/06/2016 10:34

R4 it's probably because it didn't used to be on on a Sunday, but I don't know when they moved to the 6th episode.

Gruach · 07/06/2016 10:39

Oh, yes. I remember having misgivings when Sunday episodes started. But I can't remember when it was!

Not breast feeding is going to make it so much easier for Rob to have the baby though, isn't it?

Doesn't it increase the dramatic tension as the hearing looms? A contented, breast feeding baby would stay with Helen, especially as that is the purpose of MBUs. No opportunity for cliffhangers and Pat wailing.

Helen's barrister who knows she is anxious leaves a message just before she goes into court saying Helen needs to call urgently. Helen calls. Anna drops the bombshell that Rob wants her baby as well as Henry. Helen also has to appear at the hearing which send H into meltdown. Anna says she hasn't much time and has to go. Helen is distraught. Enter the kindly fellow prisoner. Heart of gold and accent to match. Helen opens up.... eventually.

As others have pointed out Anna should not be the one communicating with Helen anyway. I was less bothered by that as I assumed Anna the SHWL had good levels of empathy and would get Helen to talk. Last night she showed zero empathy and less than zero emotional intelligence. Helen needs a better barrister

'Downton Abbey' as a reference point must be one of the worst pieces of dialogue ever. Keri can write decent scripts, so I'm blaming the editor.

And then we have Lillian and JD. The relief road may still destroy Brookfield and yet JD, Boudica, sees the news only in relation to David.

I no longer recognise the show, and share the 'get me out of here' sentiment.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 07/06/2016 12:36

It really sounded like a load of middle class people had sat around to discus. "Now, what do we think someone common would say?" Just terrible.

YY to this. It sounded like the main character from Home Front or Home Fires or whatever that lunchtime drama is on Radio 4.
Cockernee sparra with a heart of gold. Maybe "downton" will open up to her whilst they bond about awful husbands (I assume the common husband will be called Darren or Wayne for added stereotypical value) and the truth will out, saving Helen.

kitchenunit · 07/06/2016 12:44

Bloody nora that woman in the prison had the weirdest accent! We went from "got the 'amp?" straight out of EE, through West Cuntry and then segued into RP.

Jeepers.

kitchenunit · 07/06/2016 12:48

Couldn't they have just let that poor prison actress use her normal accent? I'm sure that people with middle class accents go to prison too!

It's bloody painful.

kitchenunit · 07/06/2016 12:51

Anyone else think that Old Lilian would have told JD about Justin straight off the bat? I think given the amount of probing JD did, Lilian would have just told her, and told her to go take a hike if JD didn't approve.

Old Lilian didn't spend this amount of time pussyfooting around. She was way more ballsy.

redshoeblueshoe · 07/06/2016 14:56

I dread to think what treat they have in store for us tonight.

Gruach · 07/06/2016 15:06

Women's Aid have produced a new video - with a brief voiceover by Louiza Patikas at the end - which, rather disappointingly, doesn't address coercive control at all. The message is still that you have to have a bruise ...

'Do You See Her' shows that domestic abuse can happen to any woman of any age. Do you see her?ow.ly/d0iC300ZEfY…#anywoman

R4 it's probably because it didn't used to be on on a Sunday, but I don't know when they moved to the 6th episode

(Answering the geek summons). Based purely on doing the maths, if TA started 1 Jan 1951 and had 5 episodes per week, then switched to 6 episodes per week, reaching its 18000th on 7 June 2016 (tonight!), then the switch must have taken place in ... August 1998.

But I bet I'm wrong because of some assumption I'm not aware of. Confused

DadDadDad · 07/06/2016 16:02

Wikipedia says Easter Sunday 1998, but I can't make that work with my figures, so maybe there were periods (early on?) when fewer than 5 episodes were broadcast in a week.

(1 Jan 1951 to 12 April 1998 is 17268 days, 12 April 1998 to 7 June 2016 is 6631 days, so give or take that implies 17268 / 7 x 5 + 6631 / 7 x 6 = 18018, so the 18,000th would have been three weeks ago. Maybe there is no broadcast on Christmas day?).

longtermsinglemummy · 07/06/2016 16:23

Blatant place holder

SarfEast1cated · 07/06/2016 16:24

I can't believe the inmate was called 'Caz', that was a nickname at my school in the 80's - surely something else would be au courant in prisons today...

Joskar · 07/06/2016 16:25

❤️ DDD!

EasyToEatTiger · 07/06/2016 16:41

I picked up by big noisy instrument to practice to drown out Helen's bleatings. Still there seems no reason whatsoever why the lovely Knob should not have custody. Anyway, are divorce proceedings in place? Or have I missed something? probably. If divorce proceedings are in place, then there is no reason not to serve notice to R on BFC is there? Since R has not adopted Henwee formally, surely he would have to go through some sort of process. He only has parental responsibility which must come with its limitations. No talk of that either. I love Lillian's cackle. Cackle on Lil!

AugustaFinkNottle · 07/06/2016 16:49

I don't think Lillian told JD about Paul did she? So maybe she wasn't that ballsy. Mind you, she would have been aware that it would be unhealthy to take any risk at all of Matt finding out.

AugustaFinkNottle · 07/06/2016 16:56

Helen can't get a divorce yet, you have to have been married for a year.

lljkk · 07/06/2016 17:16

Gosh, Augusta is right. They only got married in July of 2015.

EasyToEatTiger · 07/06/2016 17:49

So all this verbage from Rob is bullshit then? Is it normal on TA to have to have a full understanding of various legal things to understand the storyline? No-one has explained in any way what parental responsibility means and does not mean. No-one has explained about getting custody without first getting divorced. In fact, if the storyline were a pair of tights, it would be so full of holes to be only fit for the bin.

R4 · 07/06/2016 18:07

I can't believe the inmate was called 'Caz', that was a nickname at my school in the 80's

A lot of Brummies have nicknames ending in 'z' (eg Baz, Daz, Shaz) but Ms HeartOfGold wasn't a Brummie. Not sure what she wasHmm but it wasn't Brummie.

I'm dreading tonight's episode due to the 18,000th milestone malarky.

BYOSnowman · 07/06/2016 18:26

Well the milestone episode will be marked by a decision on the road I guess. Didn't Justin say tuesday
