I've just browsed Lowfield for the first time - they really don't like Pat do they!

OP posts:
BYOSnowman · 06/06/2016 20:51

I havent. But I did hear someone call a Tequila in the playground once. And I knew a calypso.

Anyway, does Lillian know route b has been chosen or was she just distracting Jenny? And why has the Boudicca of borsershire forgotten about her campaigning. And Lynda? Was she so easily distracted by the hut?

Minimammoth · 06/06/2016 21:40

I reckon men in black visited Ambridge and did the' look at the flashy thing'.
Thus erasing memories.

GypsyFl0ss · 06/06/2016 22:08

I wish they'd come and erase my memories of such dire writing!

enochroot · 06/06/2016 23:02

I too thought it had been announced ages ago that Route B was no longer being considered.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 06/06/2016 23:20

And I knew a calypso

There is a Calypso in Mary Wesley 's The Camomile Lawn Both Calypso and Mary Wesley were considerably posher than Helen.

LyndaNotLinda · 06/06/2016 23:53

That was hands down one of the worst bits of radio writing I've ever heard. Shameful

JessieMcJessie · 07/06/2016 00:04

"kaz" sounded like a posh actress trying to do common.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2016 04:19

Christinabendybus that really was toe-curlingly awful

Gruach · 07/06/2016 04:24

BOOP Shock

Grin
BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2016 04:29

It really sounded like a load of middle class people had sat around to discus. "Now, what do we think someone common would say?" Just terrible.

And I know Helen's reactions are probably based on what a woman in her situation would be but, for the love of all things holy, for the sake of the drama they need to start moving this along now.

LillianGish · 07/06/2016 06:14

In the old Archers we wouldn't necessarily have had to meet Kaz. We could have heard about her and her children through hearsay via Hellin talking to someone else. Some of the Archers greatest characterisations have been people who never speak, but who we still know as well as the speaking characters. All that subtlety has gone now - everything has to be spelled out, nothing can be recounted. That's why it feels so clunky.

Gruach · 07/06/2016 06:23

So Kaz has taken Kathy's fees?

I must say it doesn't feel much like TA any more.

Though - never having seen much women-in-prison TV - I've been amusing myself with the thought that in a year's time Helen will be Boss of the MBU, with Kaz as her right-hand hard-woman.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2016 07:34

She'll be calling the chief screw Vinegar Tits by the weekend

BertrandRussell · 07/06/2016 07:46

I have a new theory. I think the script writers have a bet amongst themselves that they can write an entire year's worth of scripts without using the word "why"?

Helen "Absolutely no way am I going to let Rob see the baby"
Anna "But w.......ell I think it would be a good idea if you did"

MrsArthurShappey · 07/06/2016 08:07

Pfft vinegar tits

Joskar · 07/06/2016 08:20

What jolly japes it is in "real" prison! said no prisoner ever

BYOSnowman · 07/06/2016 08:47

A load of middle class sw sitting around and sipping on chilled Chardonnay while they decide who to patronise next.

At the moment I just get the impression they treat everyone with contempt - listeners, characters, different social classes.

I don't want to feel despised when I listen to the radio.

HalsallRedux · 07/06/2016 09:01

Surely H's prison nickname will simply be 'Lady Helen'....cos she is well posh, innit.

Re. the disappearance of Kathy - someone upthread posted a link to a BBC blog/anno on the death of the Sid actor. One of the comments below the line was from Hedli Niklaus (sp?) but under an anonymous username, and gave the strong impression that she was as much in the dark as any of the rest of us. Maybe it was just the way I read it, but it felt as though someone who played a fairly major character not that long ago had now been relegated to lurking on the forums.

Disclaimer: none of the above means I want to hear Kathy consoling Pat at length.

EBearhug · 07/06/2016 09:06

No, but it'd be nice to hear her chatting to Kirsty about rotas and just mentioning it in passing. Or to hear Jamie's felled his 100th tree or passed his apprenticeship or whatever stage he's at.

GoudyStout · 07/06/2016 09:19

So are now at The Archers meets Bad Girls? Bad Girls had links with Footballers Wives that SOC had a hand in.

Should TA be renamed Bad Archers?

CuttedUpPear · 07/06/2016 09:21

I know someone whose middle name is Tequila. She has not had a good life, lots of it down to crappy parenting. I've known her for 30 years.
Don't know anyone else named after alcoholic beverages though.

ameliesfolly · 07/06/2016 09:22

Well that was rubbish wasn't it. Even the fact that 2-week old babies don't really thrash about to the extent you couldn't manage a nappy change.

I did quite like the potential dawning on Helen that although she thinks / thought well of herself and her decisions, she may not have always made the best choices. Helen now has two children to two fathers, one of whom is "absent", plus a car-crash of a personal life, an unhealthy desire to have a relationship at any cost (not just Rob, see also Leon, see also Greg, see also random bloke she dated twice) and not to mention the violent stabby bit. Caz has more in common with Helen than she does Emma Grundy which may be a shock for Helen.

BertrandRussell · 07/06/2016 09:25

And more and more everything that happens to Helen becomes her own fault. Enough with the victim blaming, script writers!

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/06/2016 09:29

Not breast feeding is going to make it so much easier for Rob to have the baby though, isn't it?

Gruach · 07/06/2016 09:29

I'm sensing a resurgence (...) of AmEx. The Helen spin-off.

"Hard Cheese" maybe.
