New thread for tonight's episode.

Do you like the decor then? My 'personal' assistant did it.

I agree, Vango. In all the recent "big" storylines, there has been little element of suspense because we knew what was going to happen. We knew the Brookfield Archers were never going to move, we knew Tom and Kirsty weren't going to make it up the aisle, we knew the new road was going to disappear, we knew the Grundys weren't going to be left homeless. I'll admit we didn't know Helen was going to stab Rob, but that was because we foolishly gave SOC undue credit for the ability to come up with a credible storyline.

Vango · 08/05/2016 21:36

Thanks for the wine and chocolate (though was the chocolate emoticon deemed a bad thing?). BYOS it's true, isn't it? Helen's going to be found not guilty in September. Like Ruth and Dave were never leaving Brookfield. Now can we just get on with it! I wonder if Matt might be able to return under a new Editor? I'd like that. I found myself thinking this evening of the time Jill and Phil left Brookfield and the drama and tension of that storyline. Which is ongoing and can be referenced every now and again. No-one had to die/be stabbed for that to be interesting 😁.

BYOSnowman · 08/05/2016 21:38

hat has he set in motion about ruari vs adam? He's mentioned ruari but that's it. It's like he's trying to take credit for the whole love child sl as it was the person who came up with that sl that truly set it all up

i'm dreading who they will appoint next as they'll probably let soc choose

Vango · 08/05/2016 21:47

Augusta dreary! Isn't it? BYOS He might think he's set something up but I imagine his 'plans' will be quietly dropped when he finally pushes off. Like VWs. Aren't we still supposed to be reeling from the death of Nigel? Seems to me the Brookfield Archers have survived as a family unit for now. Grin

JessieMcJessie · 08/05/2016 22:01

Re Ruari v Adam it's utter bollocks to describe A as Jenny's "love child" and Brian has increasingly been happy to turn over control to Adam and has not been uncomfortable with his being gay for a very long time- he went to the wedding despite not going to the civil p'ship.

What SOC said was utter nonsense.

Vango · 08/05/2016 22:02

Well according to Sean, applicants should just ignore the questions on the application form and write down what they think the show is about. I reckon there are plenty of people on here who'd do a brilliant job Grin.

Ill throw my hat into the ring first......what about a plane crash on the edge of the village? Surely a ratings winner, no?

BYOSnowman · 08/05/2016 22:06

so i have been thinking of my own 5yo who has her mummy at the top of her list (which henry would too - no matter how much he likes rob, Helen will still be his number one)

DD would never lie about me - she would understand that being told to say she was frightened of me is wrong. She would also be highly likely to say 'well daddy said i was scared but i wasn't really' or 'Mummy put me in a bath and it hurt my feet but I don't remember that/it was Granny who put me in'

DD is extremely astute but Henry can't be as 'awwight then' as they portray him

Vango · 08/05/2016 22:08

Jessie despite what he says, Sean clearly has no idea who the audience really is and he's embarrassing himself (we're Shula? Really?). Those of us who have listened for a long time are only sticking with it now safe in the knowledge that he will be long forgotten before the Archers airs it's final episode. I think he won the Editorship in a raffle and got carried away.

EBearhug · 08/05/2016 22:08

Don't give them ideas like that, Vango, please.

redshoeblueshoe · 08/05/2016 22:15

He won the Editorship in a raffle
Of course - why we didn't guess that sooner is a mystery

Hillfarmer · 08/05/2016 22:17

Why is everyone so rude about Sean O'Connor. Doesn't anyone remember TA under Vanessa Whitburn who not only was insufferably smug, but she also brought in dreadful characters and presided over god-awful storylines. I've enjoyed it a lot more since SOC arrived.

BYOSnowman · 08/05/2016 22:21

Have you read SOC's latest interviews? He makes VW appear modest.

I didn't always like the sl under VW but I felt the characters remained true

EasyToEatTiger · 08/05/2016 22:25

I enjoyed Footballers Wives for the first bit. It was just beyond awful & I found it really funny. It petered off though and got sillier and sillier and boring. I fear this is what has happened to TA.

BeauGlacons · 08/05/2016 22:28

On the subject of Adam, dd and I watched Andrew Wincott play Sally Lawrence's husband in Zindabad recently. He was bloody awesome!

Vango · 08/05/2016 22:31

Hillfarmer I think there's a huge difference between TV and radio drama. I don't think Sean is really interested in radio and I don't believe he understands why an audience would choose radio over TV. So he's trying to make something unique follow his tried and tested award-winning TV formula. Which isn't working for me. And in a Smug-Off he would definitely win!

EBearhug · 08/05/2016 22:50

I agree.

I don't think Sean is really interested in radio and I don't believe he understands why an audience would choose radio over TV.
I agree with this, too.

Also, I am having some VW confusions between Vanessa Whitburn and Victoria Wood, and sometimes I have to read a post twice before it makes sense.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 08/05/2016 23:29

I take it all back. The HelRob sl has been inportant awareness raising.

I just made real custard for the first time...and I am sure I am not the only oneGrin

We need a [custard] emoticon.

shinynewusername · 08/05/2016 23:58

I feel a certain trepidation for Mr Smalllegs. Anything you need to tell us?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 09/05/2016 00:23

I'm Miss SmallLegsWink

Thankfully I never married nor stabbed my knob x.

The custard got eaten safely 😋

shinynewusername · 09/05/2016 01:15

Good to know you are knob-negative and custard-positive Smile

ppeatfruit · 09/05/2016 08:11

It took Brian a long time though BYOS Wasn't there a 'hoo ha' about him attending the first civil ceremony for Adam and Ian?

redshoeblueshoe · 09/05/2016 08:13

A custard emoticon is a great idea, a nice big yellow blob, then we could all chuck them at SOC, Knob and Ursula.

On reflection I thing Henwee will be obedient and tell the twooth
but not what Knob wants him to say

ppeatfruit · 09/05/2016 08:14

Oh and 5 yr. olds are all different ( I speak as an ex ey teacher and cm/nanny ) some of them speak and think clearly , usually girls, others are in another universe (mainly boys Grin )

BYOSnowman · 09/05/2016 08:17

It did - but he didn't say much about the wedding and seems to have accepted it. It would be weird now if it suddenly became a massive issue again.

Speaking of the wedding - is Ian just quietly seething? Has he not made any connection between what knob did and how Helen has behaved? Are we to assume he is so caught up with a new creme brulee recipe that he's forgotten his husband is a cheat and his former best friend a wannabe murderer?

The change in characters personalities that soc has introduced are the most annoying thing, but his lack of realism concerning other people's reactions and their sudden disappearance (Jess?) are a close second.

BYOSnowman · 09/05/2016 08:20

I know 5yo are different but I really can't see a child that age happily lying about their mother that they are so close to. and they are generally terrible at lying - knob may have told him an outline of what he should say but there will be no depth to the lie.

I also don't really like child abuse being portrayed for entertainment.
