I do hope Lynda has a carbon monoxide monitor in there...

use your allotted 13 minutes to do something useful!

HahahaGrin

NotdeadyetBOING · 20/04/2016 23:20

OK, so I realise we've all been moaning about how there has been far to much focus on that ONE storyline and how we want to hear about what is going on with the other Ambridge residents etc.

BUT.

It is absurd to think people would just be chatting about eggs, shepherd's huts or whatever when a heavily pregnant woman had just attempted to murder her husband by means of a grisly kitchen stabbing. In RL no one would be talking about anything else, surely….

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/04/2016 23:58

What is the point of Pip? Is the actor playing her very cheap/free/pays the BBC to be allowed to appear?

No storyline involving her has any point; she contributes nothing.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/04/2016 23:59

Grauch Yep is starting to sound as if they are leading towards a fling with Tom and Pip, as if his life isn't bad enough right now!

Oh please no.

Wordsaremything · 21/04/2016 00:53

Agree not deadly

Wordsaremything · 21/04/2016 00:55

But please no not a cousin on cousin romance. Mega bleurrghh

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 21/04/2016 01:13

Goven that Pip has now had some kind of flirtation with:
Toby
Rex
Matthew
Tom
Someone else this week....

I predict, surprise she is a lesbian and ends up with Hellin and/or Kirsty or any other person between the age of 16 and 67.

They should put her with Jazzer.

Gruach · 21/04/2016 06:06

LassShock You have not been paying proper attention to SOC.

Pip is set to be the central character in the entire show; the inheritor of Brookfield and all it stands for, the Archer who makes The Archers.

It is a bit awkward that she's so dull ...

cheminotte · 21/04/2016 06:20

Only 67? What about LilnTonic?

PseudoBadger · 21/04/2016 06:31

She is destined for Rex. But the SWs have no idea how to write M/F friendships so she just comes across as a terrible flirt, even with her dad Shock

I don't mind Pip. They aren't first cousins are they? I can't remember the connection. Tony, Jennifer, Lillian are children of Peggy. Were Phil Archer and Peggy brother and sister? I think Phil was son of Dan. Shula, Elizabeth, D and K are cousins of John (d), Helen and Tom?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/04/2016 07:14

Dan and Doris had three children: Jack, Phil, Christine.

Peggy was married to Jack Archer (and then later to Jack Woolley for maximum confusion).

Pip is Phil's granddaughter and Tom is Jack's grandson. So yes, cousins, but not that close - twice removed? I hope it doesn't happen, though.

BertrandRussell · 21/04/2016 07:21

Some odd assumptions on here! Man and woman talking to each other=must be about to leap into bed despite being cousins and a 20 year age gap. Indications that a 67 year old woman in a happy marriage might be sexually active-= incredulity and sympathy offered to her husband.....Hmm

Gruach · 21/04/2016 08:08

Nah Bert, my Pip speculation is entirely logical given the huge portion of the 13 minutes that was spent on how delighted Tom was to see her. (Second cousins - sharing a great-grandfather, and 12 years age gap between them?)

Completely agree that Lyndy and Robert probably lead a blissful life - why shouldn't they?

Gruach · 21/04/2016 08:17

Also - it may just be an accident of voice or perhaps the actors are friends - but they do sound more relaxed (less as if they're reading unseen lines) whenever they are speaking to each other. Was the same when Tom helped Pip with a pump (?) after the flood - they just sound like a team.

If that's not part of the SWs' plan they need to sort it out!

Boomingmarvellous · 21/04/2016 08:24

Is Lynda 67? I pictured her mid 50s. Do enjoy the light relief of the shepherds hut and love the thread title. Best ever. Witty, (play on words) Apt (lots of MH issues) Current (bang on target) Grin

R4 · 21/04/2016 08:30

Goodness, I hadn't realised how old Robert and Lyndipops are! He's 73 and she'll be 70 next year. In my mind they are still 50-somethings. Shouldn't the SW let them retire and enjoy their many hobbies to the full.

R4 · 21/04/2016 08:31

x-posts booming Grin

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 21/04/2016 08:33

Men and women talk all the time on TA and then there's Pip who always sounds like she is draping herself over things everytime and man appears and tbf the male characters usually sound different around her too. (Funny that she used to be played by Germaine from Raised by wolves who basically does constantly drape around men).

Either they are playing somekind of everyone wants Pip she has so many options but oh look she ends up with the least likely option, Tom whose she's known all her life, merging of big farming families, sibling rivalry sl or she reads her lines strangely.

Gruach · 21/04/2016 08:57

Indeed. It wouldn't be my idea of a decent story - we deserve to see Kirsty finally come into Bridge Farm and I want to hear Jill welcome a Fairbrother into the family - but I've just realised there's another reason why Pip/Tom might be a possibility.

While we - and I think I speak for all of MN (Grin for avoidance of doubt) are entirely positive about /encouraging of married women keeping their original name, the SWs will assume that the audience expects a married woman to take her husband's name. It's called "The Archers" - but SOC has told us that it's going to be all about Pip on the First Farm. Who won't be an Archer if she marries a different name.

I'm just thinking aloud.

R4 · 21/04/2016 09:10

I was musing the same Gruach, that The Inheritor has to be called Archer but in these modern times not all women take their husbands name so that's the SW's get-out clause. Unfortunately, I think that the strain of having to call Mrs Pip HusbandsName by her preferred name of Ms Pip Archer might be what sees Joe off.Sad Alternatively, Pip doesn't marry her beau and that's what sees Jill off.Grin

Hadron21 · 21/04/2016 09:16

If Pip married Tim she will remain an Archer!!!

Hadron21 · 21/04/2016 09:16

Or Tom even .....

DadDadDad · 21/04/2016 09:21

Hadron - I think that's the point Gruach was making, convenient retaining of the Archer name if Pip married Tom.

Anyway, I'm putting that in the Henry-stabbed-Rob pot of rather far-fetched theories.

Gruach · 21/04/2016 09:22

On another note - is anyone else feeling a little awkward around their pointiest, sharpest kitchen knife these days. Every time I pick mine up I feel a bit guilty and dangerous - even in an empty house ...
