Helen knows she's not cracking up - Knob is an eggomaniac.

Are we eggshausted with this storyline?

Right I've missed 2 threads, and I ain't missing this one. Off to catch up.

EasyToEatTiger · 26/03/2016 19:10

I remember that about Rob. Not wanting to adopt formally. The SWs have planned this, I think. Arsula is a bit of a mystery though. The shepherd's hut with a pasting table as a bed. Nooooooooooooooo!

GypsyFl0ss · 26/03/2016 19:14

Shula has long had the hots for him though hasn't she, pre/ mid Alistair and around the time of Daniel's conception and I agree all is not well at the stables. I was thinking more that Shula as a married woman cannot complain if her poor widowed sister sets her cap at him.

Imbroglio · 26/03/2016 19:18

Maybe the 'unravelling' of Rob will be the timely disclosure of his dark past - which hopefully becomes village gossip.

DadDadDad · 26/03/2016 19:22

Wasn't the adoption / PR thing more about Rob wrong-footing Helen who didn't seem keen about Rob having rights over Henry (although she never expressed them openly, it was all suggested). She probably thought that adoption would kick it months down the road, then he suddenly sprung PR on her and how could she object?

It also meant that the SW could fast-track Rob having rights over Henry's education.

Gruach · 26/03/2016 19:27

Surely his unraveling has to come from the same source as the harm we have seen him doing?

I don't want some unrelated (or at least unheard) past history parachuted in at the last moment to change the story. The only justice for Helen comes from Rob being punished (either in public or through private action) for what he has done to her and other people in Ambridge.

EmilyDickinson · 26/03/2016 19:33

I think Helen's instinct was to remain the person who made decisions about Henry, but, given that she'd married Rob and Henry seemed to like having a new Daddy I suspect that she thought it would look churlish and inconsistent to object to Rob being an official parent too.

One of the saddest things about this storyline is the way that Rob has undermined Henry and Helen's previously close relationship. I particularly dislike the way Rob manoeuvres Helen into situations where it is difficult for her to object to Rob's decisions without being the person who is spoiling Henry's fun. For example over Rob taking Henry hunting and over Ursula giving him chocolate every day.

recyclingbag · 26/03/2016 19:47

I agree, I think the PR decision was all about speed, just like the impromptu wedding.

He needed practical as well as psychological control over Helen as quickly as possible.

Far easier to walk away from a fiancé who's not the father of your child.

Imbroglio · 26/03/2016 19:55

I meant the public unravelling - so that people don't spend the next ten years sighing over Helen breaking up with 'that lovely man' and being branded as unstable and 'highly strung'.

I want a whole village uprising against KnobbyMacKnobFace!

GypsyFl0ss · 26/03/2016 20:13

I want a whole village uprising against KnobbyMacKnobFace ... Absolutely.
Led by Bert exclaiming " Oi want a word with you about moi Freda's dyin' like that"

DadDadDad · 26/03/2016 20:15

You'll be wanting pitchforks and a burning wicker man next... Grin

KingscoteStaff · 26/03/2016 20:15

Did we ever find out who was responsible for the orchard shed burning down ?

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 26/03/2016 20:17

Place marking for laters

Boomingmarvellous · 26/03/2016 20:25

I second putting knob in a wicker man. I'd light the match Grin

Imbroglio · 26/03/2016 20:36

Aaaaaah.... the Ambridge arsonist.

Who would have a grudge against the Grundy's and the Fairbrothers?

Another Horrobin revival?

PseudoBadger · 26/03/2016 20:44

It was probably Bert. He liked feeling needed.

Is it just me who thought Bert was actually being a bit off with Lynda? He copied her idea and had no intention of doing it on that date until he heard that was the date she had already chosen then acted all self righteous.

Imbroglio · 26/03/2016 21:03

Lynda was trying to make the flood all about her, using her garden as the focus. Imo, Bert was quite right to call her out on it.

selsigfach · 26/03/2016 21:37

Exactly this, Imbroglio. Did anyone else catching Clarrie feigning surprise at Lynda turning up at the big curtains unveiling, what with her not not having had anything to do with making them? Made me snort!

glowfrog · 26/03/2016 21:39

Rob wIll decide to pretend he's turned over a new leaf and will take Helen and Henry on that steam train ride he denied them before. Strangely enough, half the village turn up, including Tom, Kirsty, Ian.

By the end of the ride, Rob turns up dead with multiple stab wounds and PC Harrison can't figure out who dunnit because THEY all have alibis...

Helenluvsrob · 26/03/2016 22:07

Am I the only one humming this every time Lynda mentions " resurgam"?

Imbroglio · 26/03/2016 22:13

No but that is one of my favourite film moments!

SliceOfLime · 26/03/2016 22:25

Wow another thread! And 50th too, amazing Pseudo'! I hope we do get an emoticon DDD maybe a badger?!

I listened to last night's episode this morning and had to holdback tears during the Helen and Henry conversation. And she didn't reply to 'and Daddy?' When he asked about them always being together... It was great to hear some strength in her voice at the end and the corresponding hint of panic in his - the acting is fantastic - but it did make me worry about how he'll get his 'authority' back. I was actually hoping she'd fake being even more submissive than usual just to put him off realising that she's starting to wake up to what's happening.

I also thought the PR / adoption thing focused more on Rob wanting to avoid background checks, I can't remember what happened but at the time it seemed clearly flagged up. There was also a line this week when Pat said something in relation to Alf Grundy, about how families should forgive and forget, and Rob said something like "not in all circumstances " - I do wonder whether there's a coherent plan for his backstory to come out during / after H's escape.

Mitfordhons · 26/03/2016 22:27

I wish there was a Saturday edition of the Archers.... I can't wait till tomorrow.
