No more walking on eggshells for Helen! Heading for an eggsplosive Easter weekend in The Archers - will Helen Archer be resurrected by the end of this thread?

Helen knows she's not cracking up - Knob is an eggomaniac.

Are we eggshausted with this storyline?

bigbuttons, I'm afraid tonight will bring nothing but either a blessed relief or an almost unbearable tension from waiting - it's Saturday!

EmilyDickinson · 26/03/2016 11:09

Rob was planning to go to the pageant with Henry I think but had decided that Helen couldn't go because it would involve sitting on a chair, which is unadvisable when you are pregnant Hmm.

I'm not sure he'll trust Helen to stay put in her present worryingly independent mood. One of the few items on the abusive behaviour tick list that he hasn't tried yet is locking her in the house...

R4 · 26/03/2016 11:13

Congrats on the 50th thread pseudo. I like "walking on eggshells" - very apt.

Emily my money a couple of threads ago was Rob locking Helen in for the pageant and then her going into labour and being rescued by Harrison or Carol.

EmilyDickinson · 26/03/2016 11:37

Recycling I think you could be right. I'd quite like Helen to dial 999 for an ambulance though as Rob would find it tricky to weasel his way out of the ambulance crew (would they have to call the police?) breaking into the house to get to Helen.

If/when Helen goes into hospital and they ask if she wants them to call anyone, my money is on Kirsty. If love for Kirsty to be Helen's birthing partner and for Rob not to be allowed in or even better arrested when he turns up at the hospital.

TeenAndTween · 26/03/2016 11:40

Thanks for the new thread. Marking place to keep up, as I turn off radio whenever that storyline comes on.

spiker · 26/03/2016 11:41

...ah here you are - took a while to catch up with you lot!

recycling and emily - locked up for pageant sounds entirely plausible and likely, but she has a landline to call for ambulance surely? Although the paramedics may need assistance from PC Plum to break down door.

spiker · 26/03/2016 11:45

Cross posts. What would Knob's story be? Break down in tears? 'She tried to hurt Henry, I'm at my wits end...' ?

Scarydinosaurs · 26/03/2016 11:57

Thank you so much Pseudo!

I think a realistic conclusion is Rob beating her and expecting her to go along with a feeble excuse which she surprises him by denying. The idea that she has stuck up for herself once and will accept it isn't realistic. I think an escalation of violence/control, an attempt to leave, reconciliation, an extreme act of aggression and THEN she leaves would be more realistic.

enochroot · 26/03/2016 11:59

She needs more people to see through his act before she can get out without him successfully accusing her of being unfit and she needs Henry to herself before they can both run for it.

Congratulations on the 50th thread.

Screeching in...... Dare I hope this may soon be over?

3littlefrogs · 26/03/2016 12:23

How far away from other buildings is BHC?
(Just wondering if he would be evil enough to lock her in and disconnect the phone - AND remove her mobile).

Minimammoth · 26/03/2016 12:25

Cake pseudo, we should have a badger emoji in your honour.
Surely when the truth outs R will be drummed out of Ambridge, he will have no job, no employment. No home even.
Can't wait.

recyclingbag · 26/03/2016 12:27

I also think family are often the last to react.
When I was a teenager, my boyfriend was quite controlling.

All of my friends thought he was a twat but my family loved him. A bit like Helen, I think they were more likely to see me as 'difficult' whereas my friends just took me for who I was.

cestlavielife · 26/03/2016 12:31

the denouement will be around the birth...

DoSomethingKirsty · 26/03/2016 12:37

Sorry if this has been asked this before, but will Rob have any claim on Bridge Farm? Is Helen a share holder? Can he just carry on working in the shop?

After reading the article in The Telegraph I don't think this is over yet...

recyclingbag · 26/03/2016 12:46

I can't believe I've just googled

"Generally speaking, if a farm has been inherited, it will firstly be a question of trying to raise capital to meet the housing needs of both spouses. For example, if a farmer has inherited a farm from his family, the basic requirement when divorcing is to supply his wife with a suitable home for herself and possibly the children. It may be necessary to sell off part of the farm in order to do this, or to borrow against it. But that may damage the core activity of the farm and a court might be reluctant to do that.
If the farm is owned through the wider family, with siblings and/or parents, then this will need very careful thought. Courts are reluctant to damage the livelihoods of other third parties.
Another key aspect is usually paying maintenance out of the farm income. With farms, in particular, this can be difficult. The lifestyle sustained by a farm may seem higher than the income it actually produces. When that income is shared, there may be a dramatic fall in the standard of living of the person receiving the maintenance."

As they don't live on the farm, and Rob hasn't even been working there very long, and married for a short time, I doubt he would have much of a claim.

Marking my place. I am not allowing DCs to listen to TA. They are concerned as I shouting at the radio.

Theleavesonthetrees · 26/03/2016 13:14

Does anyone think Rob has been played by Ursula? Sendng Henry to private school was her idea that Rob initially didn't think her could make fly. Maybe Ursula suggested it knowing it would lead to a Helen rebeLlion and marriage breakdown, thus punishing Rob for dumping Jess and marrying 'unconventional' Helen, as Ursula described her.
No sympathy for Rob btw, just like the idea of him being outplayed in the controlling manipulative stakes by his more experienced Mother.

Fantastic new thread title pseudo - better than ever!

Happy 50th to all!💐💐👍👍🍸😀🍰🍰🍭🍾🍾💐💐!!

We were out last night, and I have been wondering when I would get a chance to listen. Have just left family gathering to listen on earphones. As others have said, it was amazingly well acted and faultlessly written. But so very very chilling.

Well done Hellin! It's great to hear the fear in Knob's voice as he realises he's losing control. I just hope he doesn't take it out on her tonight.

I'm worried that if she does run to or confide in Pat, she won't believe her about the abuse or rape. Rob has convinced Pat her daughter is unstable & possibly untrustworthy. I just hope it's Kirsty or Tom she goes to!

I definitely heard the door before Hellin stopped speaking on the phone to WA. If he wants to, I'm sure he could find out who she was speaking too.

JasperDamerel · 26/03/2016 13:27

I've just caught up with last few episodes. While I don't think that Helen is ready to leave Knob yet, she does seem to be considering it. She had that conversation with Henry where she promised him they would be together, him and her, and was silent when Henrty said "and Daddy?". So I think a part of her is starting to imagine a future without Knob.

recyclingbag · 26/03/2016 13:28

I've listened again.

The door goes but then it's WA person who's speaking, not Helen so probably not.

I'm pretty sure WA doesn't show up on phone bills either.

Gruach · 26/03/2016 13:34

The door ... I imagined Helen upstairs in her bedroom when she called Women's Aid. Possibly with a view to the front of the house and certainly knowing, to a second, just how long it would take Rob to get from the door to the top of the stairs.
