AskingForAPal - yes, I did see it earlier this week! Absolutely loved it.
Domestic abuse in Ambridge:
Nora Salt was before my time.
Jack Archer was an alcoholic and no longer speaking by the time I became a listener. Don't know whether he was abusive, but life was not easy for Peggy and the the children, as they all occasionally mention.
Simon Pemberton hit Shula, his partner at the time, and she didn't go to the police. They split up and he got together with Debbie. Shula didn't warn her. He hit Debbie too, and she did go to the police. Shula came forward to give evidence. He was convicted but got off with a caution/fine/community service/suspended sentence - can't remember what it was, just that it wasn't a custodial sentence.
(Simon Gerrard was Debbie's Canadian academic husband. He was a serial adulterer, but not physically abusive.)
Owen was the chef at Lower Loxley who raped Kathy. He eventually went to prison after being arrested for another rape somewhere else. Kathy gave evidence.
There's been a lot of other lawlessness but I can't off the top of my head recall any other instances of violence/abuse against women.
