Actually - why wouldn't Kirsty know about GG's clients' dietary preferences? Surely it's her job to draw people in and keep them coming back? What new initiatives has she put in place since she arrived?Hmm

OMG you lot I'm playing catch up here, as DDD says it's moving soooo fast. Brilliant thread titles psuedo thanks! dh works for HBO so although I can't watch GOT (too hairy for me) I appreciate the publicity Grin.

I know you have all thoroughly discussed this already, but I am really not getting all the black pudding horror. Surely it is a mainstream food?

I once made my own black pudding from the pigs on our hobby farm. It was not pleasant to make but it was great to eat!

Brilliant title! Thanks Pseudo/Gruach et al. I had been enjoying TA, even though I had been cringing a lot during some of the HellRob episodes, but the last one, with Rob talking about obedience was extremely difficult to listen to. One upside of the SL is that DD (19) has started listening and has even listened again if she's missed an episode now. So, hopefully, the SL has brought younger listeners in. It's been a useful tool for DD and me, and even DS2, to help introduce discussions about DV, relationships, etc.

I am going to continue listening, but it's beginning to be very painful now. The HellRob SL is so intense atm, but... what is that with Eddie shaking hands with some randomer, letting them graze on Ed's land that he's not allowed to sub-let, especially as Caroline and Oliver have been so good to the Grundy family? I really hope this SL will not end badly.

Also, thanks to Dadx3 for the various statistics that he posts and to all who participate on this thread. I'm not at all a prolific poster, but very much enjoy all the discussions. After each TA episode I can't wait to come on here and read others' opinions on whatever has happened.

IloveJudge Eddie has always been a chancer, an act first, think later type' he's not basically evil, just a bit stupid. C and O know this and still let them move in.

Love the new thread title, particularly in view of Pseudo's instruction: I'm thinking short and sharp, as generally the involved titles aren't as well received Grin

I cannot imagine any scenario in which Pat (even as Patbot) is going to meekly accept Ursula being installed at Blossom Hill. She's been banned from visiting her daughter in hospital (after watching her collapse in front of her eyes from an eating disorder Knob assured her did not exist), banned from visiting her at home as she must have complete peace and quiet. How is Ursula's presence going to be any less exhausting for Helen than a visit from her own mother? Also Pat and Tony were at Blossom Hill Cottage for the famous no-show of Knob's parents which he explained away as his border-line abusive childhood. An evening like that would not slip anyone's mind - not least if the person telling the tale was married to their daughter! I still don't understand how Knob has managed to backtrack from this in Helen's eyes - I remember at the time she was very suspicious about their no-show. I can only hope that by spending time with Ursula Helen may find out the truth of Knob's background and some details about his relationship with Jess and that this might provide ammunition in persuading her to LTB. Or perhaps SOC, in the absence of an archivist, has forgotten all this and will just carry on regardless rewriting history as if none of that had ever happened.

Report
enochroot · 14/02/2016 14:07

I fear the latter, Lillian. SOC will go his own way regardless. You're right though. Pat should be badly rattled at this.

With the imminent arrival of Ursula, this SL is becoming more Rosemary's Baby by the minute. Knob is already the husband, with his constant insistence on 'resting', and now Ursula will no doubt be tasked with reporting back on H's every move at the end of the day, a la Mrs Castavet. H will hear the distant murmur of them talking about her while she lies in bed, forbidden to stand or indeed do anything exhausting like...er, walking. Or breathing too much.

Oh, and Non-Noisy Boy will not be allowed to see her all week because, of course, it's All Too Much.

In yet another of Keri's explanations, he said that Helen's family had visited her in hospital. Quote:

Chaps, listen to what Pat said. She hadn’t seen very much’ of Helen in hospital. They have visited her.

Oh, here's more. A tweeter points out that Blossom Hill Cottage has only two bedrooms.

K.D.'s response? " My bad ... "

Hmm

Is it wrong to worry?

Also when Knob's parents were coming before weren't they booked into Grey Gables for the night (because they couldn't possibly stay at Blossom Hill)? Then Knob made a huge pantomime of pretending to phone them as the night went on before he declared they had decided not to come. It is not an incident that can be swept under the carpet as a small misunderstanding. It was a great storyline at the time as Helen (and we listeners) wondered and suspected if they had ever been invited in the first place. It was an early illustration that all was not right with Knob. Then Knob was absolutely determined that Helen should never see or speak to his mum - and was horrified when she turned up unannounced and he found her and Helen ensconced at Blossom Hill. But what was the point of it we now have to pretend that Ursula can move in and nothing more will be said about it and that she - the supposedly abusive parent - is the perfect person to take care of the precious snowflake? Pat is aware of this because she was there - sorry I keep repeating myself in the hope that a passing SW might take note.

If K.D can't be bothered to keep up we might as well all stop listening a go home.

I'm rather disappointed in Keri. I know they'be lost the archivist, but he ran the BBC boards for years and has been a scriptwriter for years, too - it's not like he's just been brought in from Eastenders to fit in with whatever SOC has come up with this week. He's had certainly over 15 years (he was doing the boards round the time my father died, so I can date it), and probably more, close involvement with TA, and should know better. He should know his audience well enough to know they'll pick up on errors, too.

The night his parents didn't show up was also a turning point in how Pat viewed him.
He gave a sob story about his allegedly dreadful childhood and Pat 's thought fondly of him ever since.

This tweeting is getting on my nerves. Just do the job properly in the first place!

Calling Dad Dad Dad again!

In the bygone days of the BBC "The Archers" message board, there was a fellow who kept posters entertained by telling us statistical facts about the Archers characters - his name was based on a historical character from the low-counties.

Was that you Dad Dad Dad?

That was Cornelius Vermuyden, who (no disrespect to DDD) was probably a lot younger. He was doing a Ph.D. at Cambridge, I believe.

That's dispiriting about the Blossom Hill gaffe, but to be fair the SWs have never been very good about remembering stuff like that. The Ambridge vicarage has been whatever size/age it needed to be whenever it pops up in a storyline, and the old Cat & Fiddle (the disreputable pub where the Grundys and their pals drank) moved around the village as if it was on wheels. Grin

Lovely thread title, Pseudo! I've just found out GOT is back on 24th April. I can hardly wait.
