Never mind the yoghurt - who is making the Sterling Gold?!

Wow, this thread has zipped along! Pseudo is going to need a new thread title in the next day or two...

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 21/02/2016 20:11

I assumed she was lying about the bedwetting for goodness knows what reason. Or was it me tioned by H or R and I missed that.

Funnily I really wouldn't have thought Rob was at all the sort to let a child into the bed.

redshoeblueshoe · 21/02/2016 20:27

I thought that too, Smallegs. Also I have a GC a bit older than that who occasionally bedwets - I would never discuss this with their parents friends, and why did she imply it was such a big problem, it really isn't. as people who actually have real children know

BYOSnowman · 21/02/2016 20:48

if you find being pregnant and driving a car too much I guess changing bed sheets once in a while is almost an impossible ask. helen does too much already

will ursula ever leave? is bruce still alive? will he turn up at some point and drag ursula home by her hair?

redshoeblueshoe · 21/02/2016 21:00

But surely Robdarling would have changed the sheets and reminded him about being disobedient.

GruntledOne · 21/02/2016 21:36

Surely even Arseula can't have thought it remotely credible to say that there would be no time before Thursday to take Helen to the shops. How busy could she conceivably be for it to be impossible to find a couple of hours at most while Henry's at school?

BYOSnowman · 21/02/2016 21:56

It's almost like they realised someone needed to be in the shop so decided the abuse needed to be a job share role too. It's too weird and I don't like the introduction of ursula at all-totally undermining the good the sl was doing. It's reminding me of Rosemary's baby.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 21/02/2016 22:00

Apparently this is Ursula, for those who were asking. (Can't see her on the BBC page)

YY to Rosemary's baby!

MeolsCop · 21/02/2016 22:19

Ursula was in Crossroads, about a million years ago...can't remember her having that strange, affectless voice then, though.

YY to all the previous observations. A couple of months ago she 'dropped in' unexpectedly, to Knob's obvious surprise and discomfiture. Now she knows all about Helen, knows small details like Kirsty having been in the village play, answers H's phone with casual ease, and her week of 'helping' can apparently be extended indefinitely. And she's colluding with Knob.

None of it makes sense.

(I said Rosemary's Baby a while back. Just saying Smile)

BYOSnowman · 21/02/2016 22:24

Many threads ago I suggested Henry was in fact Damien. Now I am thinking sok is more likely.

Now let's assume rob gets given the heave ho. In years to come do you think we will have a sl where sok becomes avusive to his mother because it's in his DNA? Because I don't think I'd like that.

R4 · 21/02/2016 22:30

decided the abuse needed to be a job-share role too

Grin
enochroot · 21/02/2016 22:55

Thanks for the name. I don't recall seeing anything she's been in so I don't know why her voice is familiar.

YY to the idea that someone realised they couldn't have Rob in the shop full time so a hasty re-think of the mother-son relationship took place.
It's more like fire fighting than scriptwriting at the moment.

ColdTeaAgain · 21/02/2016 22:58

Surely someone will have something to say this week about about Ursula still hanging around. Pat? Tom? Anybody??

Even Kirsty seems to be fine about Hellin's MIL always answering her phone for her ffs Hmm

enochroot · 21/02/2016 23:00

She said she has Bruce just where she wants him. Locked in the cellar?

EasyToEatTiger · 21/02/2016 23:19

I am getting bored. Ursula's behaviour and Helen's behaviour and the family's behaviour bla bla bla are making no sense. Why would Rob suddenly be in cahoots with his mother having not spoken to her?. I too feel like a cork in the ocean. Bla bla bla. I am getting fed up. The other story lines fail to be making sense either. Perhaps I ought to get out more.

ColdTeaAgain · 21/02/2016 23:48

I'm feeling the same EasyToEatTiger, it's become the HelRob show with random little snippets of other characters on the side. None of it is really feeling like it flows.

AskingForAPal · 21/02/2016 23:59

I agree. And I can't believe how easygoing Helen's family are being about her never being seen any more. Don't they like her? Miss chatting to her? She didn't turn up to Christmas and now she's going to miss this other really important occasion. Why doesn't Pat want to go to the scans? It'd be hard to explain why a MIL she barely knows would be more welcome than her mum. Isn't it about time SOMEBODY lost it with Helen or Knob and said "FFS you have to come to this or we'll all be seriously pissed off"?

EasyToEatTiger · 22/02/2016 00:11

Perhaps it's time for Helen to realise that actually nobody likes her and it's time to leave. She's lost all sense of self and acts only as an incubation pod. Ian and Adam are as though they are controlled by puppeteers and never actually speak to each other. Rob's misdemeanours are never discussed. It's la la land and I don't like it any more. But I do like this thread!

Trojanhorsebox · 22/02/2016 00:54

But I do like this thread!

Yes, I like the thread more than the show at the moment. Half the time I only listen so I can keep up with the jokes and comments here, whereas I am a longtime listener and only came to the threads because I enjoyed the show - so long ago that seems now!

MargieBargie · 22/02/2016 07:15

Ursula having to be there because Rob's in the shop doesn't make sense - surely most abusive husbands are out at work during the day. I think it was more to keep Pat out of the picture; though as has been said, it's not remotely believable that she would be so meekly accepting of Ursula taking over, and even going with Helen to her scan.

I can't BEAR this Ursula twist in the plot! I really didn't think they'd go down this path because it's just so silly and over the top.

I assumed Henry wetting the bed was a lie too - I hope it was, actually, and not that he's suffering because of the way Rob's been treating him out of our earshot.

Imbroglio · 22/02/2016 07:17

Well Ursula has to go with Helen to the scan because otherwise she might go with her own mum or dad.

Rob can't go because Tom might snoop around the chiller cabinet and order book.

LillianGish · 22/02/2016 07:28

What has happened to Ursula answers all our questions about why no one ever follows up on Knob's behaviour or gossips about it (I'm thinking of him shouting at Jim, the hunt sab incident, the cricket cheating, his behaviour during the flood, his culvert blocking, his fiddling the books at Berrow etc etc) - it is because either the SWs have forgotten about it (in the absence of an archivist and they have very short memories) or they think the listeners have very short memories and that it is fine to do an about turn on the plot because they think a different direction would be better. I am finding the Ursula volte face as imlausible as Knob's departure from Berrow with Charlie somehow ending up getting the blame. I am another one who only listens now because I don't want to leave the thread.

LillianGish · 22/02/2016 07:39

Ursula having to be there because Rob's in the shop doesn't make sense - surely most abusive husbands are out at work during the day. I think it was more to keep Pat out of the picture This is is exactly. The SW suddenly realised what we have been saying for months - that Helen is surrounded by close family and friends living very nearby who are forever popping in on one another in the normal course of things. Helen used to live with her parents until quite recently - they performed the function of Henwee's other parent until Knob came on the scene. The SWs had obviously completely forgotten this. Now their solution is to bring in Ursula - having completely forgotten the backstory they gave to Ursula when she was first introduced.
