Thanks to SmallLegsOrSmallEggs for this thread title way back in November!

Congratulations on filling the old thread and thank you for the new one. Great title.
I never expected Scruff to come back though I suppose it is likely he's been hanging around near Ambridge Hall and saw only strangers there until Lynda and Robert moved back in. I think someone suggested months ago that might be the case. I'm very happy for Lynda.

Was the bone in the silage ever tested and proved to be a dog's? In an over-infested way I've always wondered if they sieved the rest of the silage for more bones. Surely the skull must be there somewhere.

No ambulance at Blossom Hill Cottage yet. Oh well, there's still time.

LyndaNotLinda · 27/12/2015 18:13

I cried in the car today when Scruff came home. Which is particularly pathetic as I'd already heard the episode but there is something about the story arc in the film which means it flows much more satisfactorily.

Did anyone else hear Jill on Desert Island Discs? Curiously vague about her life, particularly considering how old she is.

Joskar · 27/12/2015 18:50

I live on an estate. We tug forelocks at Lady Eva when she can be bothered to come up. Bert would be proud.

SquirrelledAway · 27/12/2015 19:00

I lived in a little Devon village for quite a while (as an incomer) where everyone was related to everyone else and so Ambridge seems very familiar. I think Joe Grundy calls people by first name / last name as it's where they are in the social scheme of things in his mind. Hellin will always be an Archer, she'll never really be a Titchener (an incomer) as far as Joe is concerned, and the Archers are high up in the social standing in the village (although I tend to see Brine as the self-appointed squire).

I like the idea of the lecture on how Ambridge can demonstrate the development of accent over time, sadly I think it's flawed as it's mostly based on actors trying to do what they think of as a generic country accent with varying degrees of success.

Humph ...

Am I seriously supposed to believe all of Ambridge are quietly sitting in the LL theatre watching this?

Concentration is wandering somewhat.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 27/12/2015 19:41

I don't know what they were thinking.
It's not really making much use of their talents is it?

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 27/12/2015 19:45

It really is as poor as I feared. Tis quite a dull (radio) story. Is the play/film better?

I've washed up now so think I'll skip the rest.

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 27/12/2015 19:48

I am quite enjoying CG (to my enormous surprise!) I think it's because the acting is just so much better than in the usual programme! I really believe these characters.

Could also be because I was in the play a couple of years ago in our local Am Dram group so it's bringing back some good memories!

Gruach · 27/12/2015 19:50

I'd be willing to listen to this as a radio play but it's definitely not something I'd pay to see ...

God knows what Toby's rugby mates are making of all this wordiness. Xmas Hmm

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 27/12/2015 20:01

Maybe the rugby chums will start chanting
"Where are the tits?
Where are the tits?"
At which point the Fairbrethren will be made to stand up to a chorus of
"There they are !
There they are!"

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 27/12/2015 20:03

That's my only real criticism - they haven't even made any effort to make it sound as if there is any audience there!

Gruach · 27/12/2015 20:03

Are they going to go through every month?

Putthetulipsthere · 27/12/2015 20:39

I think the play sounds great. Just shows how good the actors are, and the absence of audience noise is deliberate as it would distract listeners. I had no idea they were doing this, can someone tell me who Jean Harvey is played by, that's a familiar voice??

Dipankrispaneven · 27/12/2015 20:40

Sian Phillips.

Gruach · 27/12/2015 20:47

StarFlowers Sunflowers for Lynda's cast.

Wine The last of the port for me. That's quite enough Archers for now ...

PseudoBadger · 27/12/2015 20:49

Where are the tits? There they are GrinGrin

Thanks Diprank - and what a voice hers is. Great play, well done Linda!😀😀

impostersyndrome · 27/12/2015 21:16

Dumdedumdedum I love the sound of that conference. Is there a site where I can find out how to register (assuming I'm free - I'm keeping off my work diary right now).

Butteredparsnips · 27/12/2015 22:37

Merry Christmas all. Signing in after a marathon TA day. The film + tonight + CG.
BOOP points for Scruff and Clarrie's sideboard.

DozeyTwonk · 28/12/2015 00:17

Lily is messaging Mr invisible? Is she going to be groomed and sexually exploited. Why doesn't Elizabeth check her phone?

bigbuttons · 28/12/2015 08:50

CG was very boring. I gave it about an hour. Disappointed.

DadDadDad · 28/12/2015 09:06

Weird, I had an Archers dream last night...

Helen's sister (I know) was visiting R and H. R was seething about something and it didn't help that the sister was asking some pointed questions (maybe she was the physical embodiment of the MN mind?)

R takes the sister outside to show her one of those large garden storage chests (I had been looking at sheds last night online - living the crazy life of a dad Smile). Then somehow he got her into the chest and was strangling her. She looked like she might escape but then I woke up-

Dum de dum de dum de dum...

RockNRollNerd · 28/12/2015 13:16

Belated Merry Christmas to you all! I missed all of the previous thread Xmas Shock - first one ever I think!

I also got the For the Love of the Archers book from DH, and used also managed to use knowledge of Community Assets gained from the Archers to explain to everyone whilst we played cards on Christmas Day what they are. It does still inform as well as entertain.

I'm still convinced Ruth isn't coming back. Was trying to get a bit of inside track off family at Christmas but they either weren't saying or didn't know.

I've discovered that 2 episodes of the Archers plus 'God is my witness' by the Foo Fighters lasts 30 mins on an elliptical in which I can do 6.5km.
