Round of applause for Gasp0de for listing romances & getting a PB.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/12/2015 14:55

Then, of course, there is Jennydarling, who was quite a goer in her youth...

(will leave Gasp0de to fill in the details as I can't quite remember)

Minimammoth · 12/12/2015 15:02

Doffs hat to Gaspode, the amazing memory er dog.
I have yet to catch up with this week but I predict Helen going over the edge, and perhaps engineering Knob to choke on a Christmas up sixpence/ electrocution by fairy lights or similar.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/12/2015 15:08

Blush Aw shucks, thanks all. Grin

Can't really help with JD because she was married to Brian by the time I started listening. She did then have an affair of sorts with her previous husband, Debbie's dad, but the details are a bit hazy now. The shenanigans with John Tregorran were well before that, I think.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/12/2015 15:18

And Adam was the result of a fling with a red-haired cowman.

JessieMcJessie · 12/12/2015 15:27

FinestGrundyTurkey yes, Siobhan was a translator and her language was German, but she helped Brian find Hungarian translators through her agency when he was setting up the Hungary project where Debbie now works. That probably took all of 10 minutes but supposed ongoing translation support was a convenient cover for their affair, hence "Hungarian translations" becoming synonymous on the BBC message board with any affair eg "Do you think Ruth and Sam are going to engage in some Hungarian translations?".

RockNRollNerd · 12/12/2015 18:15

I do like Hungarian Translations as a synonym for any kind of sexual shenanigans! Joining the club in awe of Gasp0de's recall.

Hope some nice BOOPs come your way BOOP Flowers.

Am glad that the Grundy's are sorted with accommodation for the foreseeable but I fear desperately for Joe's long term future - if he sees any of 2016 I suspect it will be the fireworks and midnight and that's it Sad. I thought Thursday's episode was beautifully done, some of the most moving scenes do feature Joe and Eddie, like when Joe broke his wrist and Eddie was distraught.

Ruth is definitely staying away indefinitely I reckon...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/12/2015 18:19

I'm very fond of 'batting for Darrington' which was also an established euphemism on the old BBC Archers messageboard of fond memory. Did that come about when Sid Perks, who was a homophobe, refused to let Adam join the cricket team so he did the unthinkable and joined Darrington instead?

If only my memory for things unconnected with TA was a tiny fraction as good... Xmas Grin

ppeatfruit · 12/12/2015 18:20

Maybe I'm easily convinced Lynda but I've known worse run firms than Berrow (bigger too)!.

Also remember that Roof has inherited a fair amount of money and is enjoying herself (who can blame her). I know I know I delurked rather early!!!

EBearhug · 12/12/2015 18:28

It turns out, though, that if you say things like, "oh, he bats for Darrington," to people who don't have R4 playing all the time, they don't actually know what you're on about...

ppeatfruit · 12/12/2015 18:31

Gaspode You should be taken on by TA research dept. You have 'em sorted in a moment. Xmas Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/12/2015 18:40

There's a couple who used to post on the BBC MB who know a lot more than I do, though! Bearhug will remember Mike and Rosie. They actually got married after meeting through the BBC MB. I've been very careful not to mention this too much to my husband, for fear he'll think it's catching. Grin

EBearhug · 12/12/2015 18:45

You're not mentioning they got married? Or that there's a risk you'll run off with someone from the boards? Of course, Mike & Rosie weren't the only ML marriage...

JessieMcJessie · 12/12/2015 18:45

I'm not sure Adam actually joined Darrington- think it just came about as an Archers- specific version of "He bats for the other side" which is a well- known euphemism for being gay.

Gruach · 12/12/2015 18:48

Bored. No Dr Who to look forward to.

Naked drama, wedding palaver, new Grange Farmers - Helen prays for Christmas karma ...

I wonder if the SWs are embarrassed at having spent so much time on Hel/Rob that every other important story has had to be crammed in to a couple of days. I know it's Christmas and they want some climaxes - but it looks a bit amateur. Adam and Ian didn't have to get married at exactly the same time as all the other stuff. The entire village will be visiting Doc Locke for something to calm them down.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/12/2015 18:50

Indeed not, Bearhug! There were four or five relationships at least that I can recall.

BeansMcCready · 12/12/2015 20:51

I have to delurk after the last few page - that was like the Usbourne lift-the-flap Ambridge through the ages! I've been listening unconsciously throughout my childhood but actively since Lizzie's abortion, anyone (Gasp0de?) care to date that?

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 12/12/2015 23:35

Just returned to thread to discover my earlier post was pants Blush

LooseAtTheSeams · 12/12/2015 23:37

Goodness, that must be mid-1980s, wasn't that when the evil Cameron left Lizzie stranded at the motorway services and vanished?
The jd nearly-affair with ex-husband was around the same time because I remember the episode where JD and Brine were sniping nastily at each other and Debbie blurted out that other people i.e. Lizzie had much worse problems to deal with. Her parents were stunned into being more sensible!
At least I think that that's right. Have been lurking for a bit because I can't cope with actually listening at the moment!

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/12/2015 00:00

Aargh, sorry Gaspode just realised you'd covered all this and much more - I skipped a page!
I'm glad someone else remembers the same era, though. I can't help feeling nostalgic for those scripts! Grin

Gruach · 13/12/2015 08:51

So that's where Alan has been! I'm listening to Sunday Worship (R4) from St Martin in the Fields and he, as his real self, John Telfer, is performing his own song written for this year's appeal.

So pleased to hear him doing good works away from Ambridge.

Gasp, I have just read your post - wow that's amazing! I started listening about twenty years ago so I remember Oliver Pemberton and him being married to Caroline, but I had completely forgotten about Robin Somebody. It's all coming back now! Do you know when Caroline had her affair with Brian?? I think it must have been before my time and I've always wondered if she thought he was going to leave Jennifer for her....
