Wishful thinking. I think she's in it for the long haul Sad

OP posts:

The huge question is why nobody has even mentioned Bert moving out. It is just ludicrous to think he would stand by while Jill was evicted from her home like this. Does he even know it's happening?

And does Brookfield really only have 4 bedrooms? Was there no spare room when Jill and Phil lived there?

BYOSnowman · 13/09/2015 09:24

Agree about rooms. Sw may argue that pip was away so that was the spare room (so three kids had a room plus parents became boys sharing, parents, bert and Jill) but that doesn't stack up because it was only very recently that pip talked of moving away so her coming back would always have been factored in.

So the sw have basically lost a bedroom as far as I can see.

Also, how small is rickyard? If there is a downstairs kitchen and lounge with a bedroom upstairs surely bert could have moved in and just used the downstairs?

I have a feeling rickyard is going to turn into a tardis for the fairbrothers to move in.

BertrandRussell · 13/09/2015 09:27

Yes, why aren't either Jill or Bert or Heather in Rickyard? Surely the downstairs could be converted for Heather?

But why hasn't Bert said anything????????

Gruach · 13/09/2015 09:31

ArcherMind!Grin

Now on Broadcasting House ...

R4 · 13/09/2015 09:37

Go on, Gruach: ask them how many bedrooms Brookfield has. Grin

Davros · 13/09/2015 10:37

Listening to the film now. Carrie just said "toasted cheese"!!! Toasted effing cheese???! I think the SWs mean cheese on toast

BertrandRussell · 13/09/2015 10:39

Everyone calls it toasted cheese! Well, except ds when small who called it "roasted cheese".......

MeolsCop · 13/09/2015 10:55

The whole SL is so full of holes you could use it as a colander.

Roooth has been at Prudhoe for months and I for one can't work out why her presence is so urgently needed at all times.

The house 'has' to be cleared and sold - but why? What's the rush? If HP was going into an expensive private home I could understand it, but she's not though IMHO she's going to SOTMC in double-quick time anyway

No mention of ANY social services involvement whatsoever, with Roooth seemingly expecting to care for HP singlehandedly. Another example of the SWs ignoring what would happen in RL, cf. poverty-stricken Ed'n'Emmur not applying for benefits.

Bert stands by silently while Jill and her precious desk move out - frankly unbelievable.

Pip suddenly notices that they, erm, have a whole spare cottage sitting idly around.

And that's just for starters. Don't get me on to Jill's increasingly bizarre passive-aggressive vocal stylings, and David & Pip's creepy love-ins.

Btw, tuna pasta bake....Roooth said it smelt delicious, but when she asked if she could help, Pip said she could open the tuna. Eh? Surely if it's smelling delicious, it's in the oven, tuna and all?

Davros · 13/09/2015 11:05

Blush I was a little confused, thinking she'd said "grilled cheese"!!! But I still think someone Clarrie's age would call it cheese on toast.

Minimammoth · 13/09/2015 14:18

I have questions. Has HP been diagnosed with dementia or some other disease? Ruth is acting as if she is dying, why will she have to be confined to the house when she arrives?
I suspect the SoC is cooking up some twist in the past to juice up the Fairbrother story, getting the Grace actress to 'remember the reason why she died......'

They are really bending David's character now.
Hoorah for Jolene though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/09/2015 14:21

I'm 54, never lived outside the UK and I've called it toasted cheese all my life. We're a Scottish family, if that's relevant.

Just listened to Archermind. I could answer most of those questions. Blush Jo Toye ducked the one about two bands which had some plot significance but didn't have a cast member as a band member. Pet Shop Boys would qualify - can anyone think of another one? Oasis at a real stretch, because Wonderwall was played instead of Barchester Green at the end of the episode with John's funeral and it was said to be his favourite song. Any advance on Oasis?

Gruach · 13/09/2015 14:47

No ideas about bands. Grin

Mini The sort of stroke Heather appears to have suffered will have left her with (ime) somewhat impaired memory and decision making skils. She'll also probably be a little disorientated by the weeks/months in hospitals and homes. And sad about the upheaval and loss of her independence.

But no, she's unlikely to be completely decrepit. And certainly not in the process of dying though vulnerable to another stroke. She'll be on masses of medication and ought to have people coming in for as long as she needs to help with dressing etc. (They should already have arranged a space aged bath chair for her ...)

She should be perfectly fine relaxing in a comfy chair with radio /TV and magazines/cat/dog between meals, with family members and friends popping in to keep her company. And a gentle walk around the farm or drive to the village shop every day will only enhance her recovery.

At least, that's what they've implied. Ridiculous for the SWs to suggest Ruth will be sitting at her bedside 24 hrs a day. Hmm

Gruach · 13/09/2015 14:51

Sorry - obviously weakness on one side of her body, tiredness. But she will be recovering over time.

LyndaNotLinda · 13/09/2015 14:52

Yes I thought that about smelling delicious and opening the tuna!

Was I the only one that thought Bert had taken on an odd Gollum-like way of speaking when he was talking about the marrows ('we thinks that girl there looks the one to enter in the show, doesn't we?')? I'm sure he doesn't normally talk like that Confused

BertrandRussell · 13/09/2015 15:25

Whenever I make pasta anything I start with frying onions and garlic- could that be the smelling delicious bit?

InimitableJeeves · 13/09/2015 16:16

I'm glad I'm not the only one bemused by Jill's current vocal style. There was a scene last week when David's mobile rang and he was too busy to answer it. Jill seemed to be getting increasingly hysterical about it, particularly the possibility that it could be Ruth on the other end, as if she was desperately waiting for some massively important piece of news from her. The thing is, though, that if you listened to the lines as written, they were unexceptional and could have been read as an ordinary bit of throwaway conversation, which I suspect is what the SWs intended. So either it's the actress or the director who's decided to inject every bit of drama into the script that they possibly can.

BYOSnowman · 13/09/2015 16:26

Bertrand - pip was cooking so I doubt there were any onions involved

BertrandRussell · 13/09/2015 17:22

I think Jill is incredibly unhappy and feels understandably let down and rejected and is trying to cover it up. The actor's attempts to convey that are sounding a bit odd, because it is beyond her.

It was sad when she was so excited about Kenton shaking David's hand. Sad

toldmywrath · 13/09/2015 17:39

Just caught up. Jill's voice is getting more querulous as time goes by. I rather look forward to her intonations - I think if she spoke normally I could no longer coo in my head in a taking the rise fashion. (iyswim)

toldmywrath · 13/09/2015 17:40

Has anyone seen DairyFarmersWife recently? Are there any other men apart from DadDadDad as regular contributors on the thread?

toldmywrath · 13/09/2015 17:42

frostyfingers sorry to hear that about your dear old mum Flowers

Minimammoth · 13/09/2015 17:57

I think Bert is turning into Sam Gamgee. He be calling Carol 'Mistress' soon.

Gruach · 13/09/2015 18:11

No one tugs a forelock quite like Bert.

dairyfarmerswife · 13/09/2015 19:17

I'm here! Two weeks on holiday, first week at school and a glitch with my phone which makes typing annoying have all meant I am mainly lurking. Bertrand I think Ruth said she could smell onions when she came in, Pip obviously follows your tuna pasta bake recipe.

Who asked about Pip's salary and the arrangements on family farms? II wouldn't think Pip is a partner yet, so I guess she would be paid a wage. It would take her a while to pay back 2.5k though. I can't really see why they didn't take on Matthew for a month anyway, as they had to pay him. There must be work he could do as they are busy calving.

toldmywrath · 13/09/2015 20:18

Hello to dairyfarmerswife (I'd hoped you hadn't name changed as I look forward to your dairyfarming knowledge)
