There are a few women in Ambridge who've managed to overcome relationship difficulties and climb the ladder at work.
Christine - first marriage a disaster, then her husband died, kept on working running the stables
Peggy - first marriage a disaster, then her husband died, kept on working at Grey Gables as Jack Woolley's right hand woman
Caroline - all sorts of setbacks including being widowed, kept on working at Grey Gables as Jack Woolley's next right hand woman
Shula - widowed, kept on working at Rodway's, then bought the stables.
Elizabeth - widowed (bit of a theme developing here), kept the business going, and not just ticking over either, she's expanded it.
Brenda - dreadfully disappointing career given her early promise, but she does seem finally to have managed to break away and get a reasonable job in London. Given the above, she should of course think herself lucky not to have been widowed along the way.
