Won't someone please give Kenton a kick in the FA Cup Finals, and a link to Money Saving Expert?

OP posts:

BYOS Two? But Rex is lovely! Unless you mean Toby and Knob...

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 11/06/2015 20:04

yes i meant Toby and Knob!

Maybe we will have a short lived love triangle with the brothers and pip, then rex and her will settle down and toby will disappear to find himself and reappear in 50 years

enochroot · 11/06/2015 20:04

Is it me being thick or has it become difficult to find TA catch-up from the R4 webpage?

Icimoi · 11/06/2015 20:14

Toby sounded a bit like Kate today in terms of the total disregard of anything other than their own pleasure. So maybe the SWs are aiming to get them together.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 11/06/2015 20:42

I think Kate sounds too young. Not as in trying to be young but that the actress sounds younger than 38. Maybe she donated the missing years to Pip

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 11/06/2015 21:18

@squeaver

To be honest, I think it's a giant grassy metaphor for Adam and Charlie's relationship the way he goes on about "sowing the seeds" and "giving it time to blossom" to say nothing of how vigorously he was hammering in the fence post the other day

ZeroFunDame · 11/06/2015 21:29

I know it's only 12 and a half minutes - but the lack of verisimilitude is particularly frustrating with Kate. A small point is that she's lived on a different continent for, surely, at least a decade - but there's none of the playful merging of linguistic idiosincracies or whatever that would naturally be part of her repertoire. It's as if she never left.

The bigger point obviously is that no one coming fresh to TA right now would ever guess that Kate has two quite small children left behind in South Africa. I said before that she would be prostrate with grief and longing for them. But the SWs must have skipped that post. Angry

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 11/06/2015 21:44

her other 2 kids will only be remembered when they hit the teenage years. like in eastenders where the kids get put in a box and left to grow until they hit 16

the sw are quite lazy though

they are trying to lure us in to be interested in the fairbrethrens background but i really couldn't care less. i'd just like to know for once and for all how old they are supposed to be!!

LillianGish · 11/06/2015 21:46

Zero - not for the first time, I entirely agree with you.
Do we know who has bought Moike and Vickoi's house?

LillianGish · 11/06/2015 21:52

Another one who couldn't care less about the Fairbrethren when there are so many more interesting existing characters being ignored.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 11/06/2015 21:52

Work hard play hard, Toby lives life to the full and doesn't want to be tied down. Like older brother Rex, Toby has been a keen rugby player. He has also worked in the City. What new adventures lie in store?...

So that is what is says about him on the bbc website. Well he doesn't work hard and he clearly hasn't worked in 'The City' and given the actor is under 25 I guess he is supposed to be that age too. so his backstory is bullshit

grrr. nothing more annoying than people writing cack handedly

Bluestocking · 11/06/2015 23:08

"Tobes". Bleurgh.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/06/2015 23:36

So toyboy has belatedly rung Kate because his big brother has pointed out its expediency? Hmm I already didn't like T but my opinion of Rex (seemed ok up till now) has plummeted.

selsigfach · 12/06/2015 00:37

I hate the way their surname is used every single time someone says Rex or Toby, e.g. Kate refusing to take the blame - "it was Toby Fairbrother!" Nobody speaks like that, let alone an entire sodding village.

ppeatfruit · 12/06/2015 10:36

BYOS I reckon 'Tobes' sounds just the type for a 'city worker' They may play hard and work hard but their 'work' consists of squandering other peoples' money hard.

Oh and did anyone else notice the symbolism of the raddle in the pool? After he 'covered' Kate he marked his property Grin sorry a bit of a dirty mind there Grin

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/06/2015 10:44

He fulfills a stereotype of a city worker.

I know a lot of city workers. Those who fulfil the stereotype are a tiny minority (although that's not what the press would like you to believe!). Lots work 9-5 and go home to their family in the suburbs. There are a lot of accountants, it workers, hr, compliance functions of all sorts.

Those making the big money at a young age work long hours. Toby doesn't sound like he could cope with that! He sounds like he's a bit thick really.

I got the raddle thing after someone explaine what it was for upthread. But as they are new to farming why would he have access to raddle or really know what it is?

ppeatfruit · 12/06/2015 10:56

Yes because they helped with the shearing at Brookfield and he probably picked it up then ?

Sorry I must admit i didn't read all the previous posts properly, and didn't notice that one Blush

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/06/2015 11:00

There is no way I would have known what raddle was without this thread!!

It just seems a bit high risk to take and then use something you don't really know anything about!!

I hadn't thought if it like that errol but neither brother seems to be very respectful of women. Rex was quite dismissive of Kate at the bar and also the way he spoke of her earlier in the episode.

Can't believe they are gettibg rid of mike and replacing him with these two clowns

ppeatfruit · 12/06/2015 11:05

It just seems a bit high risk to take and then use something you don't know anything about

Well that says it all about Toby doesn't it Grin

I don't mind them, there must be comings and goings in any village, there are in ours.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/06/2015 11:08

That's true!

I don't mind movement but why mike and in such a mean way!! He could at least have been moving happily.

Rex could be ok but Toby seems to be turning into a nasty piece of work. I can't see him lasting long though.

Also, knob has bailed the evilness and the actor playing robes may struggle in comparison.

ppeatfruit · 12/06/2015 11:43

Toby doesn't sound evil, just stupid and immature to me. I heard that a man doesn't grow up till he's 35!

The Fairbrethren may be 'ships that pass in the night' Or Rex gets bagged by Hellin when she finally comes to her senses and finds an ok man, and Toby moves on.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/06/2015 11:45

I think he's really unpleasant

Rex will end up with pip I reckon and Toby will go away.

mummytime · 12/06/2015 13:31

I think Toby is supposed to be one of those charming ex-public school types, who gets fired by the City. Thinks its going to be a party and then gets fired just as quickly (because he's lazy and doesn't understand the "rules" apply to him). A bit of a cliche. Then obviously he spent time working in bars, and a mess in Brighton.

I assume their money comes from their Father, and Rex is a better business prospect.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 12/06/2015 13:40

Will be interesting if daddy ever turns up to check his investment.

squeaver · 12/06/2015 14:33

I have to admit, I had some grudging respect for Kate in last night's episode.

She grasped the mettle and pretty much forced Toby to meet up with her (although a lot of this is down to her enormous sense of entitlement) and then, when she realised what he was really like, she got out of there with her dignity intact.

They deffo did it, though, didn't they?
