Here you go

Archers Spoilers

LillianGish · 03/02/2015 21:12

Thanks Lammily that's not a spoiler its a reminder from a year ago. Where did you find it?

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/02/2015 21:12

Er...cutted that wasn't a spoiler!

CuttedUpPear · 03/02/2015 21:13

Aaaaah sorry!

Just noticed the date on your post Lammily

As you were.

I suppose it will serve as an addendum to the Glossary anyway

Ooer, Hellin defied Rob three times today - over going to the shop, over having a pizza instead of a painstakingly home cooked meal, and over going out to the dance class. There'll be trouble, mark my words.

I really don't get why she feels that being around to cook him lunch is so essential that she has to put her life on hold. Surely she realises that most men manage for themselves at lunch when they have a job? Or at worst they take sandwiches to work with them.

ZeroFunDame · 03/02/2015 21:20

Can anyone remember what she was like (domestically speaking) with Greg?

nauticant · 03/02/2015 21:32

I also meant to say I really like the title of our new thread with its undertone of menace. Good stuff.

PseudoBadger · 03/02/2015 21:32

I'm an EHO. Felpersham District Council has obviously escaped the country-wide budget cuts, and can still send EHOs to conduct routine inspections of low risk food businesses

GypsyFloss · 03/02/2015 21:33

I remember a pan of water for the pasta being thrown / accidentally spilt by Greg on Helen's direction .

ZeroFunDame · 03/02/2015 21:43

Oooh - what distinguishes high risk from low risk Pseudo?

(I once saw some furry sausages (raw) in the Harvey Nicks chiller ...)

LammilyDoll · 03/02/2015 21:52

Lillian, here's February 2014:
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr/broadcasts/2014/02
Then just change the month and/or the year
Not very helpful if you don't know the approx date of an episode, though . . .

PseudoBadger · 03/02/2015 21:54

And as if Helen would say 'best before date' when she means 'use by date'. Grrrr.

Ok so very basically anywhere that handles raw food to make it ready to eat for immediate consumption) restaurant, sandwich bar, burger van) is high risk.

Lower risk is like a shop, supermarket (except bakery, deli etc), butcher etc. No handling, customer buys produce, or pre-packaged ready to eat food.

Not reading any of this until I've listened to tonight's episode, but had to pop in to say LOVE the thread title!

PseudoBadger · 03/02/2015 22:06

Poor little 'bastard' Ethan Shock Although as a recent convert to Game Of Thrones I had a wry Jon Snow smile at that...

ZeroFunDame · 03/02/2015 22:11

Ok. So where you have a restaurant and deli/ grocery shop on the same floor - do you only inspect the restaurant, or the whole thing?

I'm slightly alarmed to discover that any local Ambridge Organics that I visit might not be receiving regular inspections. Will have to go back to growing most of what I eat.

GypsyShock Greg threw pot water at her? (But observe Helen's revenge ...)

stilllearnin · 03/02/2015 22:11

Just caught up - lovely new thread, thanks! Whoever said that Rob is an obvious baddy - my mum is on the verge of banning my dad from listening because he still thinks Rob might turn out ok Shock

The greeting between Rob and Tina did sound very awkward. It wasn't just Rob being wrong footed or worried that his bad choices or misinformation would be found out. Tina was awkward too - like there is a secret there. (Also when the shop scene started I thought we were going to have the whole scene without Tina!!).

I love EHOs Pseudo. I work with them sometimes and they are my favourite people - a mixture of academic and practical I think.

guineapiglet · 03/02/2015 22:20

Greetings to all on shiny new thereadFlowers

I loved hearing Joe and Bert sparring on the dance floor and all the little digs... This proper TA stuff, their love/hate relationship goes back years and shows they are still very much part of Ambridge fabric... Great stuff... Much better SW......

Ps Rib was so evil to Jess on the phone, I hope they forcibly make him take the testGrin

guineapiglet · 03/02/2015 22:21

Rib???????
Rob Biscuit

Minimammoth · 03/02/2015 22:53

Right...you hold him down and I'll swab him. That should do it.
Cows and pigs and sheep better scurry, when I am muckin out with the slurry......
Small contribution to Archers the musical.

funambulist · 03/02/2015 23:42

I loved Rob being wrong footed by Helen today, she swept away all his protests and just headed off to the shop, where she had a lovely time sorting things out. (Shocked at how useless Tina seems to be.)

I think the story line will now go one of two ways, either Helen will remember that she likes running the shop, Rob is perfectly capable of doing some of the domestic chores himself and Henry is more than happy to have the odd takeaway and Rob will have to learn to live with it. Or Rob will take steps to put Helen very firmly back in the gilded cage he's constructed. I fear the latter. And, given Helen's new found independence, I wonder whether Rob will have to drop the pretence that it is all about him looking after Helen.

One thing that I do find rather curious is that as far as I can see he is a reasonably good father figure to Henry. Despite his nastiness to Jess when he spoke to her on the phone, he instantly switched into "Now there's my favourite boy!" mode when Henry came out of nursery. Lizzie also remarked on how well Henry and Rob got on when she saw them together without Helen. Perhaps it is designed to make it hard for Helen to break free, as she might feel that Rob's qualities as a father figure for Henry outweigh his controlling behaviour with her.

I suspect that there will be a few interesting episodes ahead.

Out of interest, who do we feel are the best parents in Ambridge? Recent episodes have made me feel that Jennifer and Hayley are good mothers and Eddie a good father.

yeah · 04/02/2015 00:25

Hello all. Long time lurker.

Love the slow simmer on the Rob/Helen storyline. Really annoyed that Tiger has gone - he was one of my favourites. Enjoyed it when he and Brine were together. Can't stand Pip in any incarnation.

Sinkingfeeling · 04/02/2015 00:38

Jill has got to be the ultimate good mother, surely?

TopazRocks · 04/02/2015 00:57

Not sure about Jill - she tends towards favouritism which can't be good in the 'ultimate good mother'. I like Usha as stepmother - also Clarrie as mother - she seems to love her sons equally though the dysfunctionality
f the relationship between the two boys tends to lose her some points IMO. Not that we should blame the mother as such in that.

But Jenny - teenage single mother, in an age when it was shameful, to bringng up the husband's orphaned love child as her own, and now supporting the GD through difficulties.

ZeroFunDame · 04/02/2015 00:59

Sound views yeah.

Best parents? There's such a long list of terrible ones ... Peggy, Jill, Jim doesn't even like his child. Carol murdered her husband with tea - not the best example to set. None of the middle aged Ambridge royalty though Jenny is an awesome Granny. Alan, spineless. Jolene - OMG. Kathy - bit feeble.

I've always felt Clarrie and Eddie are wonderfully supportive - just not blessed with the easiest children.

Neil (and Susan?)

Mike also. Vicky seems dedicated but it's hard to tell.

I'm sensing a pattern ...

Oh - Jenny and Brian might be doing a better job with Ruairi than they did with their grown up children.

Lynda! Lynda is my favourite Ambridge parent. After Nigel.
