NewTom is checking in at Vancouver Airport as we speak, surely Hellin would have pitifully sobbed down the phone by now? It is probably the only plot device which would bring Tom back home, either Tony or Pat being injured/deaded..which I guess is why this particular contrivance didn't happen to someone not on Bridge Farm(even though it must SURELY be someone else's turn for such bad luck.

As a lifelong veggie, I am thinking of setting up an online petition to save OttoGrin, his plight has upset me more than anything else. Why is he being punished when clearly it was the unexpected and unwelcome presence of Henry and Johnnie which spooked and panicked him, a normal reaction of any animal in the circumstances. I worried about him being in his lonely pen.

guineapiglet · 17/11/2014 10:39

Eek x-post waltzing!!!

I await your updates urgently!!Grin

Somethingfunny I always feel that the beauty of The Archers is that virtually every family in the village has either Archer blood or a very close connection to an Archer.

There was a fabulously positive Archers interview in the Western Daily Post (or some such) a few days ago underlining the secure future of the prog. (Didn't link as no knowledge of newspaper provenance.)

All the talk of "the end of Ambridge" misses how fabulously they have laid the groundwork for the next generation. I really don't think it would matter if Brookfireld moved to Northumberland (sentiment aside.) IMO it would be a rather interesting broadening of the picture.

We already have Johnny, Phoebe, Ruairi, the LL twins, Henry, Mungo ...

George - through Emma, is related to the Archers by marriage. It only needs Chris and Alice to have a child for all the Horrobins to become fully fledged Archers - and Keira and her half brother would be first cousins to an Archer. Poppy, (George's other half sister) would also then be an Archer-relation - bringing Jake and Mia more tenuously into the fold.Shock

I refuse to believe that S O'C is not constantly considering this wider picture. It's stupendous.

unitarian · 17/11/2014 10:58

Yes, BYOS, Ed would be covered on the Bridge Farm insurance but he does so many add jobs where he might not be insured so I was speculating what would happen if he couldn't work for a while.

Sorry to be alarmist about two Archer farms going up for sale. It seems logical to me that Pat would want to get out but she and Tony, if he makes it, needn't move away from Ambridge.
Rob could probably raise the money to buy her and Tony out. After all, he's family now!

Berrow Farm seems to manage perfectly well without him.

Theas18 · 17/11/2014 10:58

Why is Will and nics baby never mentioned?

THe post above makes me think I hallucinated this baby I can't even recall the name of!

PseudoBadger · 17/11/2014 11:06

She would've been 1 last month Theas, not even a mention from Eddie (or the missing Clarrie...)

Poppy!

It's tremendously neat that both Grundy boys have daughters who are half sisters to the fought-over George.

And, despite Will's current ascendancy over his bro, it's Emma's side of the family that's going to grow up as Archer rellies. Im waiting for Keira's first pony.

unitarian · 17/11/2014 11:07

Speaking of babies.........

Jess must be in some discomfort by now!

R4 · 17/11/2014 11:10

Not convinced zero. It is striking that of your list of "Johnny, Phoebe, Ruairi, the LL twins, Henry, Mungo" the only one that has both parents still together is Mungo and that is probably only because he is still too young for the bust-up yet.
The series needs some core, some stability, something for everything else to chaotically swirl around. Where's that to come from in the future?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 17/11/2014 11:14

Was coming back to say R4 that if Pip is returning it will probably be to start her own dynasty.

D&R are so determined to move - but I see no reason at all why Pip might not stay and continue to farm Brookfield.

VelvetGreen · 17/11/2014 11:23

Pat and Tony selling up would have been a far more interesting story. Imagine how Pat would react if her organic farm was absorbed into the megadairy or suchlike.

I suppose it is possible that all the Brookfield nonsense could be a way of sowing the idea that they could actually pack it all in, especially with Tom gone (for now) and Helen no longer working (current emergency aside). It would be no surprise if they wondered if it is all worth it any more. There is Johnny of course, but he is still going to be too young and inexperienced to take over the farm for some time yet. Pat and Tone could then be packed off to somewhere sunny for a well earned retirement, and some peace.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 17/11/2014 11:31

It does feel like all these stories are being crammed in. Like they had a calendar for the next 5 years with these big events spaced out and then the ed came in and said - brilliant! That's the next 12 months storied up!!

Do wonder if we are heading for a big Xmas climax of misery and gloom

BringYourOwnSnowman · 17/11/2014 11:38

Do you think the sw are planning a bird flu outbreak - Josh's empire being culled may hasten his departure to prudhoe

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 17/11/2014 11:46

unit I wonder if they're regretting the Jess complication (leading to it being quietly downplayed) or whether it will actually prove crucial to the Archer future.

If Rob acknowledged his child then surely he has to leave? They can't do another Ruairi ... Then Helen moves permanently back to Bridge Farm and becomes a powerhouse of industry. (Oh wait - isn't / wasn't there a powerful brother/ sister partnership in Emmerdale? I watch at least three episodes a year ...)

I just hope they haven't decided to keep Jess and the Top Shop baby as a long term fly in the ointment. It needs a conclusion.

trevortrevorslattery · 17/11/2014 11:47

I am late to the party! just wanted to say I was welling up on Thur/Fri/Sun for poor Tony. I'm so glad they haven't blamed Johnny too.

Also I felt sorry for the mummy cows having their calves taken away (yes I am a townie! Grin)

Would any insurance cover the replacement cost of the bull? Or do Pat n Tone just have to suck it up? Poor them.

trevortrevorslattery · 17/11/2014 11:48

Zero the Top Shop baby! haha!

unitarian · 17/11/2014 11:57

Zero You're right the TSB (!) does seem to have been abandoned in the stock room.
When Rob said 'I'm family now' I was itching for Pat to lose it under stress and retort, 'But you're still married.'

Someone's got to say it sooner or later!

TeenyfTroon · 17/11/2014 12:52

guineapiget, I'm with you. It wasn't Otto's fault. And I hate this Tony story nearly as much as the Brookfield stuff. All this misery is depressing me.
Please let something good happen to Ed...

ppeatfruit · 17/11/2014 13:44

Well it looks like Nic and offspring, Vickoi , Kathy and Jamie , and anyone else who has been away a long time, are having their 6 week break that's lasting 6 months (maybe O'Connor believes in working his actors 6 months on 6 months off!).

LillianGish · 17/11/2014 13:44

With all the extra work to be covered after Tony's accident I'm waiting for Pat and Hellin to have words again over Hellin's decision to stop working - so she can look after Henry. Then Pat, at the end of her tether, can blurt out "If you'd been looking after Henry your father wouldn't have been crushed by Otto".

ppeatfruit · 17/11/2014 13:55

Also Peggy playing the Matriach must be making their teeth itch Hmm

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 17/11/2014 14:02

Perhaps Kirsty will be the one to inform Tom (if his family really are not in touch with him.) Impossible to believe that K and Tom would not have been in contact regarding the legal and financial dismantling of their perfect future.

LillianGish · 17/11/2014 14:02

Yes Peat - maybe Pat at the end of her tether could snap at Peggy for being so awful to Tony.

Icimoi · 17/11/2014 14:08

I suppose it could just be that Jess has had the baby but Knob is keeping quiet about it and Hellin is too self-absorbed to do the maths. If she does ask questions he can claim he didn't say anything because the baby's nothing to do with him.
