I always hear it as Dad! DAD! DAD!!!!!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/11/2014 15:27

Re the shoot

Can we really have something as dramatic as a shooting?

How about ed makes a mistake leading to the guns not enjoying themselves or something. He doesn't get paid (increasing bad blood with will) and is banned from BL for evermore this further spiralling into despair.

Ed is a good case study in how hard t can be to make a decent living in rural areas

I don't think will was being too bad to ed - he wasn't paying the original guy more and he must have a budget that this puts under pressure. I thought it sounded like a conversation between two men who are at the edge

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2014 15:31

It's so apt we will have a 'spreadshit' - a word which also denotes:
a) n. an item of agricultural equipment
b) v. what Susan does in the shop

Well, hopefully David and Ruth will soon return from Rodways having been told that there's not a cat in hell's chance of anyone buying their lots (except maybe for a pittance) now that route B is preferred but years of planning ahead. Blight affects whole farms, not just the odd crop. At which point Ruth and Pip will flounce off up north to manage a dairy herd and HeatherPet together, leaving David and his Mummy and boys (and bees).

DadDadDad · 04/11/2014 15:37

So do I, mimsy, so do I... [sigh]

toldmywrath · 04/11/2014 15:39

I bet you're glad that you have the maths degree Dad3° (funnily enough I'd thought about calling you Dad3° before I read that you had one. Who knows-you might even have three!)
I digress- I bet you're glad because it enables you to do interesting things with spreadshits & that.
Cutteduppear your saucy comment didn't escape my radar!
I'm 51 & didn't go to university & usually listen to R5live in the day. Started listening to TA when Sam the cowman was enticing Ruth to leave, so ten years perhaps.

BasketzatDawn · 04/11/2014 15:50

Can they really do more bad luck things to Ed? .Isn't it time something bad happened to Willyam? He screws up the shoot, loses his job and his tied cottage - but he lands on feet as his buy to let is standing empty. Can they really have another shooting accident so soon after the dog was deaded? Wouldn't that be very /too upsetting for little George? Maybe something will happen to Joe. They will be sad for a while but they will accept cos he be vair old an' that. I think W sounds very stressed but he can't end up like Greg. It's all so very complicated, too much for my poor wee brain. I think I'll go and look at knitting sites and await events.Smile

weeredcar · 04/11/2014 15:52

Delurking to say that I am 31 and have been listening for around a year - I listen to the podcasts on a Monday on the bus home.

Kinda dabbled with listening to it if I was in the car at 7pm but never listened regular enough until now.

I feel like I've came in at the end of the party - if you see what I mean - crappy storylines etc etc.

It still gets me shouting (in my head) at certain points though.....namely Rob and Helen at the moment.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 15:59

Just wanted to say hello to all the lurkers! What a busy thread this has become.

emsiewill · 04/11/2014 16:10

here's the first ever Archer's thread

So many familiar "old names" on there - both MNers and Archers characters! All about Siobhan and Brine, also some talk of the inheritance, Ben Archer being born, Jazzer taking ketamine (remember that?). The thread actually kept being revived over 18 months, so a few things going on.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 16:16

What I most love about the Archers is that there is not a single one of them you'd have in your house.

13 years and nothing has changed! Thanks for that, emsiewill, fascinating.

trevortrevorslattery · 04/11/2014 16:22

I hope Ed survives the shoot. I don't like Will. I always imagine him as one of the weasels from Wind in the Willows

No I haven't been sharing Jazzer's ketamine
I have no idea what effect ketamine would have anyway

toldmywrath · 04/11/2014 17:08

I hope someone can help me please- did the previous thread mention about Mike's house sale falling through as I don't recall hearing that (film listener) .
Thank you,

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 17:12

I don't remember anyone commenting on it, but I do vaguely remember somebody talking about it, told. Whoever it was wondered if the buyers were put off by having to share a garden, but they probably caught sight of Roy standing at the window, red-eyed, unshaven and weeping, rending his polyester garments in despair but finding that they are indestructible.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/11/2014 17:15

Despite everything I've said - if they touch a hair of poor Ed's lovely, befuddled head I will be gone. I don't mind a minor upset and a big argument but the world is quite hard enough without having to hover, weeping, at his bedside.

emsie am I misremembering or did we talk about your heritage thread a few threads back? If it's the one I'm thinking of I would heartily recommend it to new listeners.

MollyBdenum · 04/11/2014 17:17

You know that conversation between Carol and Jenny about poetry last week? That was due to my dad. He emailed the Archers team when John Tregorran died to say how strongly he remembered John quoting that days of wine and roses poem back in the sixties. Apparently someone else also wrote in to say the same thing, so the scriptwriters wrote back to say that they would write it in.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 17:18

Gosh, Molly! How lovely. Well done to your dad and the other listener. Personally I like all the links to the past. I don't know if any other soap does that.

Icimoi · 04/11/2014 17:44

In other news, I hope you weren't kept awake all night by the sight of the full moon.

[sniggers]. I hope it's not just my filthy mind that reads that as not referring to the big round shining thing in the sky?

Mimsy, I think I'd make an exception to the rule of not having any of TA in my house for Lil and Matt. I think they'd be brilliant entertainment. Maybe Lynda, too, especially if I felt in need of moral support in a crisis. Usha would be OK too though I suppose we'd have to skirt round discussions of people like Lizzie.

emsiewill · 04/11/2014 17:56

Yes, zero the thread was mentioned (& linked) a couple of threads back...hope no-one minds me bringing it up more than once. It's my only main MN claim to fame.

emsiewill · 04/11/2014 17:58

It was in the days before such a thing as a "radio addicts" topic & is now also flagged up as a zombie thread, which somehow seems apt.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/11/2014 18:22

Yes it was mentioned that mikes house sale fell through because they didn't want a shared garden

Mike will probably tell Roy he's fencing off his half of the garden and this loss will tip him over the edge

CuttedUpPear · 04/11/2014 19:02

emsie your original thread was great!

I was surprised to see so many posters with three letter names- apparently this is Verboten now!

MrsCampbellBlack · 04/11/2014 19:03

Oh the anticipation

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/11/2014 19:05

Justin sounds older than I thought he was

Still rather hear matt than these new characters!!!
