more of the actors I know

(good grief - my posting is getting ever more inept)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 04/11/2014 21:06

My husband's name isn't that of a human character, but we're not speciesist here

Wolfgang or Salieri, Mimsy? Wink

Minimammoth · 04/11/2014 21:14

Sorry have only skim read thread. A, blatantly marking my place. I might even post properly when U get to listen to an episode without going ' who are these people.'

BasketzatDawn · 04/11/2014 21:14

What's the Brookfield dog called? Or one of the horses? Grin

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/11/2014 21:15

Bartleby surely

Minimammoth · 04/11/2014 21:15

Sorry not making any sense. Bumbles off muttering...

florencedombey · 04/11/2014 21:15

Is your DH a Scruff?

MollyBdenum · 04/11/2014 21:19

Spearmint

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 04/11/2014 21:26

Now I've stopped listening forever except on this thread, the Russian name thing pulled me up - nothing to do with Brenda's bloke I suppose? Was it definitely a female name?

MollyBdenum · 04/11/2014 21:29

I'm 39 and grew up listening to the Archers, as did my dad. My earliest actual plot memories are of Nelson Gabriel's wine bar, and Mark Hebden and the robbery in the shop. I also have vague memories of a flood and of the Grundies (or possibly other yokielish characters) going on a trip to France. I listened all through university, where Northernlurker broke the news of John Archer's death, as I'd been up all night writing an essay and had missed the crucial episode.

My favourite thing that no one else remembers is the years when all the parts in the Christmas panto went to non speaking characters.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/11/2014 21:34

just had a look at the archers facebook page - a lot of unhappy posters!

someone questioned how susan got the post office job given her criminal record. perhaps i am being harsh on the lack of realism being new

nah - it might not be new but it is definitely excessive!!

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 04/11/2014 21:40

oooh, BYOS, I have about 4 different Archers FB pages - I shut down the notifications because they were endless but I'd forgotten to look recently - thanks for the heads-up!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 21:50

I'm tempted to say Mr Mimsy's first name is Eccles, but it isn't. Nor is it any of your other interesting suggestions. It's not Biff, either. The Archers connection is a bit obscure, and in fact quite boar-ing. That's as much of a hint as I'm giving!

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 04/11/2014 21:55

Found it, Mimsy Smile - a somewhat royal name?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 21:59

Only of the footballing kind! A namesake of his once said When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.

PetulaGordino · 04/11/2014 22:01

i wish it were mungo mimsy

i have an archers name. dp does not (inferior name obv)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 04/11/2014 22:03

oh!

not Tom's prize boar then?

I can't recall an Archers creature called Eric Confused

MollyBdenum · 04/11/2014 22:06

Ooh, DP and I both have character names. Pretty minor ones. I'm not sure if DP's character ever spoke.

unitarian · 04/11/2014 22:10

I'm not making any predictions on this thread end date. We're a quarter of the way through it already!

I only heard the last 5 minutes tonight so heard Adam's outrage at getting a tip and being considered a chauffeur! Also Will & Ed making an attempt at reconciliation.
It seemed slim pickings all round at the shoot - but did the venison pasties turn out right?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 04/11/2014 22:13

it was a bit naff - all these ominous hints that something bad was going to happen (oh the sloe gin is strong, he's a terrible shot, etc etc) and then zilch. it wasn't even done in a 'keeping you on the edge of your seat' way either

poorly written stereotypes too

all in all a bit shit.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 22:16

I'm sure somebody had a prize boar called Eric. This rather wacky page confirms it was Tom back in the days when he was called Tommy, immediately after John died, I suppose.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2014 22:17

Come to think, DH, DD and I all have Archers names but entirely coincidentally. The dog's name is actually a version of two characters' names - one lovely and one a bad 'un.

I was making dinner during tonight's episode and completely missed who they were talking about being lost - some Russian oligarch type was it? Confused And did I imagine that the oily Justin's best buddy seems to be the loathsome Martyn Gibson? I was hoping we'd heard the last from that particular plot blot.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 22:17

Mungo is a very fine name indeed. Ours are all a lot more ordinary.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 04/11/2014 22:19

I know! Why couldn't he have struck up a friendship with Matt? I'd give a good deal to hear from Matt, especially if we get more from Lilian as well.

PetulaGordino · 04/11/2014 22:19

my archers namesake is an absolute PITA

that doesn't really narrow things down, does it?
