A new thread in time for the film this morning.

I was thinking ditches and hypothermia for Rota. And a big discussion on Sunday of when he'd last been seen, etc. Another airing for PC Plot and his black notebook. But from Hayley's POV that would be bit samey as scenarios go, I suppose. At least Lizzie was being sensible this time. But I agree it wasn't much of a chat up line.Smile

In the old days you could buy books (and cassette tapes) on the history of TA. People now need much more instant info. Of course charity shops are full of such books, but that takes luck and time. (I plan to re-read my TA books and then dump them. DH will probably buy them back and gift me them for XmasGrin)

Re-Elizabeth and making excuses for her behaviour, I can kind of see where she's coming from. She shouldn't be making excuses and trying to blame others or factors outwith her control. BUT she sounds like she's been holding things together since Nigel died, trying to run the business, look after the Frillies, and it's all got a bit much for her now. But I think that was the guilt too. I think she does know what she has done esp to Hayley and the girls and the Frillies - and sending Rota away tonight indicates that she is trying to stop it now.

BOOreOfWOOObylon · 24/10/2014 20:03

Biscuit I was absolutely howling at Lizzie-at-the-window Grin

I bet Frilly were glaring balefully down from their eyrie, too!

BasketzatDawn · 24/10/2014 20:07

I wanted a Frilly to ambush the reunion and mention Hobbits. GrinI had an image of Rota chucking stones up to Elizabeth's veranda window. Smile All in all, a good epi. Long may it last.

PumpkinGordino · 24/10/2014 20:34

Oh Roy you utter twat

LillianGish · 24/10/2014 20:43

Couldn't believe the SWs were paying homage to this thread! I think Lizzie knows she got away with it after her chat with Jill - she's not going to risk going back there again. I was also irritated by yet more pointed reminiscing. Getting into the Archers requires a degree of effort that's why there are so many long standing fans - once you've got a handle on it you don't want to fall behind. Next thing they'll be doing a plot recap before each episode

Bluestocking · 24/10/2014 20:47

I was hoping Roy would try and scale the exterior of LL, creating the potential for another long-drawn-out AAAAAAAAARGH splat moment.

PseudoBadger · 24/10/2014 21:13

They must read it surely!

Previously on The Archers of Ambridge.....

You'd have to go for the Soap approach - 'Confused? You will be!'

I thought Roy was getting into a car and was very much hoping he would be dead in a ditch before 7.15. Sadly no. Sad

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 24/10/2014 21:41

Nostalgic for this time last year Mimsy?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 24/10/2014 22:53

I think I wanted HWMNBN dead a good deal more than Roy, on reflection, Zero. So we should count our blessings, really. Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2014 23:12

The bloke who plays Roy manages a pub IRL - wonder if he'll get some stick from his regulars for his drunken misbehaviour?Grin

(the 'other life' I love the most is Susan Carter - a senior research psychologist.)

unitarian · 25/10/2014 02:26

Surely Lily was awake in her upper storey room putting the final touches to a tapestry and saw Roy being let into the house. She will wait until Grace Poole is asleep before creeping down the staircase, lighted taper in hand......

We might as well mish-mash a few more literary references into this if the SWs are reading.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 25/10/2014 07:12

Fresh from my immersion in A Song of Ice and Fire, I'm seeing Frilly as Jaime and Cersei and Elizabeth as a female version of Tywin Lannister. No Tyrion, sadly.

justiceofthePeas · 25/10/2014 09:53

Elizabeth is just so drippy. Remember how she got Roy to work there in the first place.
And the whole "I just don't know what happened"

And as for Roy and his my life is falling apart. It didn't just fall apart on its own. Although that is, I believe par for the course for the unfaithful.

but otoh I like Brine. And he was/is a swine.

So who goes, who stays?

Thread end 31st oct 14:00 filled by feverish discussion of film/ post HB helrob lizzie fuckup cliffhanger and impending Sunday night denouement that turns out to be Jill going ooh and Joe going arr.

unitarian · 25/10/2014 10:39

Lizzie must be one of those women who cry prettily. It's her greatest asset.
Roy, OTOH, does not cry at all attractively.

I love Jazzer - "It's like having a drink with a pair o' dementors."
And I wonder what his Hallowe'en fancy dress costume is going to be.

Susan's so-fur is never going to be the same again.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/10/2014 10:56

Jill going ooh and Joe going arr.

Why put such a thing into my head? WHY?

unitarian · 25/10/2014 11:01

As Roy has already rolled up to LL drunk I'm forced to revise the HB scenario somewhat.

Frilly did see Roy arriving last night and are still suspicious of their mother & him even though they watched until the cab took him away. This will have been texted to Phoebe of course.
Lizzie will ask Roy to help out with the HB on a temporary basis just in time for Hayley to come home to talk it over and find him being perky - so she'll leave once and for all.
This will send him over the edge on HB night, especially if Phoebe is a guest with her GPs and gangs up on him with Frilly. He'll take a dive from the roof.
Hell/Rob will behave exactly as predicted and Jess will appear at some point in the proceedings and go into labour, thus complying with the birth for a death rule of TA.

PumpkinGordino · 25/10/2014 11:04

We're all assuming Jess is going to go into labour at the hung ball aren't we?

PumpkinGordino · 25/10/2014 11:05

HUNT ball obviously

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/10/2014 11:07

She HAS to....

unitarian · 25/10/2014 11:11

The COJAR might be born on Hallowe'en, I suppose which will give us the Friday night cliffhanger with Jazzer delivering it dressed as Dr Frankenstein.

LillianGish · 25/10/2014 11:14

Sunday night denouement that turns out to be Jill going ooh and Joe going arr. Grin

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 25/10/2014 11:25

That must also be the first time anyone has gone for a slash on R4?!?!

I thought Freddie might walk in and find Lizzy giving Roy coffee and thinking it was post coital

At least she's found a semblance of backbone

How has Helen not been stalking Jess online etc to find out about the COJAR?

LillianGish · 25/10/2014 11:28

Totally agree about Helen and Jess Olivia. Even if she doesn't dare say anything to Rob I can't believe she wouldn't have been doing any snooping of her own.

unitarian · 25/10/2014 11:31

It all depends on how much the SWs can compress into 13 mins.

OK

  • HelRob going through their pre- going out routine of him making her change dresses, Pat arrives to baby sit and is treated to the scene where Jess and Ursula turn up brandishing whatever he sent in the post. Rob reveals his true cruel & selfish self with Pat there to tell Helen that there's no pretending that it's normal. (We're being shown wise mums taking charge at the moment.)

Charlie & Adam have to have some sort of show down at the HB and we still have to meet Justin so......I'm shifting the actual birth to Friday which is close enough to Roy's demise to fit the bill.
