Have you had your free venison burger?

Loxfest is purely a plot device to get Roy and liz alone so they can get up to some rumpy pumpy. The new writers seem to go a bit overboard. Like with the kitchen. The stories are overly dramatic for the small plot they want to get out of them.

I think we should have a bingo card for when characters say 'I don't know who I am anymore'. So far I count Tom and clarrie.

I like 15 min episodes - part of the archers charm is that some of it is left to your imagination.

How much had liz and Roy drunk hat they shagged Friday night and didn't wake up until Sunday?!?

Sneezecakesmum · 23/06/2014 10:12

I think there are probably a few too many storylines going on and I sometimes miss a few but it's preferable to the very boring (who won the largest leek at the village fair) stories that end up with me losing interest that have occurred in the past.

Roy is a total b***d and schemed to get into lizzies posh knickers

Hakluyt · 23/06/2014 10:32

"Roy is a total b***d and schemed to get into lizzies posh knickers"

But the point is that he's never been a bastard before. Well- once he stopped being a teenage racist that is. It is soooooo utterly out of character for him. And there has been no lead up to it at all- Roy and Hayley have always been a solid couple, and Roy an involved and seriously committed father- look at all those battles with Kate over the mysteriously vanished what's her name (last seen gathering eggs with Josh). It's just not credible!!!!!!!! Phoebe. That's her name. Phoebe.

OddFodd · 23/06/2014 10:51

Oh I believe the Hellrob storyline, ppea, just not the gushing 'gosh isn't he wonderful' lines she keeps getting given every two minutes. It's so tiresome. And the way that everyone has just conveniently glossed over the fact that she's been having an affair with a married man for so long.

I agree we need more gossiping. Where's Susan Carter when you need her, eh?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/06/2014 10:51

And there has been no lead up to it at all-

-Except, as Lil'G pointed out, witnessing both his sister and his friend recently break out of their straitjackets and do something entirely unexpected. That would be disturbing for anyone - perhaps particularly someone who has seemed to place a high value on regularity and ordinariness.

Maybe even subconsciously Roy would have envied the sibling who garnered all the attention and concern with the drama she created. And then there was Tom, about to become officially grown up - and he escaped! Roy must be thoroughly confused....

WillieWaggledagger · 23/06/2014 11:00

the gossiping and the reported conversations serve a real purpose and are missing from several of the storylines atm

unitarian · 23/06/2014 11:04

But Roy's never struck me as all that 'deep'. He was thick enough to produce a Massey Fergusson at the wedding of the type which killed the groom's brother and his own wife's former fiancé! How can he be considered such a steady hand at stage-managing weddings at Loxley?

unitarian · 23/06/2014 11:11

What I'm getting at is that a more plausible storyline for Roy since the wedding that never happened would be for Hayley to have been deeply hurt by his sheer insensitivity of hiring that tractor and for him to be either full of self-blame or whiningly on the defensive, thus causing a rift between Roy and Hayley which would have been more credible than him scheming to shag Lizzie.

Hakluyt · 23/06/2014 11:12

He's not deep- he's just an ordinary family man. And he would not do that. It is not just not credible.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/06/2014 11:18

Hakluyt - been on the realtionships board recently? Full of kind, loving men, devoted to their families, who have done just that and much worse

ppeatfruit · 23/06/2014 11:28

we need the rustic mechanicals' commentary yes

Only Loxfest seems to have been badly handled by Roy though . unitarian Remember how Caroline moaned when he left GG?

I did think at the time that the RoyLiz thing might happen even then (smug dirty minded emoticom)!

SarahThane · 23/06/2014 11:41

Hello, new to Archers thread but snort at ppeatfruit. Had never thought of that. I was shocked, SHOCKED at the tent festival business but the idea of Roy and Caroline is a whole new storyline opening up. Hurrah!

SarahThane · 23/06/2014 11:43

Sorry that was meant to be an asterix snort asterix, as in laughing.

unitarian · 23/06/2014 11:43

ppeatfruit. Yes, he does seem to earn plaudits in his job though after the tractor debacle, if I were Lizzie, I would be wondering if he's really up to it!
I mean, that was a really stupid thing to do and, apart from saying at the time that he feels awful about it, we've heard nothing on the subject. Instead he's spent the last, what?, 6 weeks planning to seduce his employer. Nah!

ppeatfruit · 23/06/2014 11:45

Welcome Sarah Grin No not Roy and Caroline!!!!!Roy and Lizzie!!!!!!

ppeatfruit · 23/06/2014 11:49

I don't know about the tractor though; would he have been old enough at the time to remember which tractor fell on John? uni Just a typical unthinking bloke IMO

SarahThane · 23/06/2014 11:51

remember how Caroline moaned when he left GG ... Grin

SarahThane · 23/06/2014 11:53

Ooh. Roy!

ppeatfruit · 23/06/2014 11:57

Blimey and I thought I was dirty minded Grin Sarah

WillieWaggledagger · 23/06/2014 11:57

but you might have thought hayley would remember about the tractor if he had mentioned it to her - after all she was (sort of) back in a relationship with john at that point

SarahThane · 23/06/2014 12:03
Grin
GypsyFloss · 23/06/2014 12:31

unitarian the army bullying idea sounds plausible and would be very interesting if it was actually golden boy Dan who was doing the bullying...

WipsGlitter · 23/06/2014 13:36

I think actually doing the deed was out of character, a bit of a drunken snog maybe.

Also Lizzy was way too calm the next day, they both were someone would have been having a huge fit of the guilts!

Universal · 23/06/2014 13:51

Listened again to see if it was better second time around but I agree that the storyline seems rushed and clunky. My prediction is that one of Elizabeths kids finds out and has to keep mummies dirty secret ....

GypsyFloss · 23/06/2014 14:12

Just listening again. I can't help feeling that Roy is not going to go quietly.
