Roll up roll up for The Wedding special from Catheter Hall. Is the lark flying high? Will Krusty jam that ring on the porky finger?

Oooh, oooooh - sudden horrid thought. Missed some of this week, but hasn't Jazzer bought a tractor the same as the one that squashed John???? If Tom is going to hurt himself, maybe he'll get hold of the tractor to do it in. Wow - that'd learn them, as my Grandad used to say!

(Actually, I think hope that Tony is heading for a heartattack with the shock of it all, so Tom will have to live with double guilt.)

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 11:49

If peggy does suddenly expire, her will would make it hard for Tom to go off and 'find himself'.

yegodsandlittlefishes · 28/04/2014 11:55

I was really hoping Tom would man up through this, but obviously I underestimated the writers. Bravo to them! This just gets better.

R4 · 28/04/2014 11:59

I don't think Peggy is entirely blameless - the inheritance part she really didn't think of its effect on Tony and how that might affect his relationship with Tom

Also, she didn't think how it might affect the relationship between herself and Tony. If you are hoping to inherit then you make allowances, suck things up. Now that Tony knows his mum doesn't rate him (comparison to Jack No1) and has disinherited him he has no inclination to be nice to Peggy - hence the confrontation.

longtallsally2 · 28/04/2014 12:12

Oh sorry Blush just saw that the tractor was part of the wedding!! Missed that bit Blush Must teach the kids not to cry during the Archers!!

Reading up the thread a little Mimsy - did Simon Pemberton go out with Debbie and Shula and Lizzie??!! (Lizzie had an abortion, didn't she, having become pregnant by him?)

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 12:16

Lizzie's cad was Cameron something, she didn't always go out with the same people as shula

Cretaceous · 28/04/2014 12:19

Obviously, I wouldn't wish illness on anyone... but I think Peggy should have a stroke, and have to go into a nursing home. That will soak up any remaining money, and mean that the Sausage King can't get his hands on it either... and is forced to declare himself bankrupt. While Krusty is swept off her feet by Patrick, and inherits a fortune from her uncle.

Really enjoyed this storyline. Thought Tom's actions in trying selfishly to speak to Kirsty was entirely in character.

longtallsally2 · 28/04/2014 12:19

Cameron Fraser! Hmm time for me to stop reminiscing - my memory's getting too bad for that these days!

JessieMcJessie · 28/04/2014 12:20

longtallsally Jazzer bought a Fergie from an old lady at a knockdown price, then he and Ed did it up and sold it on,though I don't recall what they did with the cash, other than Ed felt v guilty and Jazzer not at all.

TypicaLibra · 28/04/2014 12:31

Cretaceous I like your thoughts .... that would work really well, and the stage is being set nicely already to contrast their dysfunctionality with the harmonious 3-generation-under-one-roof Brookfield Archers.

(As someone mentioned upthread, Ben playing the piano was a nice touch there, re. the harmony!)

MrsBodger · 28/04/2014 12:41

I had a dream about Tom and Kirsty last night. She was still pretty cross with him, but not too upset. But for some reason she was very fat, and only 15.

Any dream interpreters out there?

GypsyFloss · 28/04/2014 13:15

Jessie I think the funds from Ed and Jazzer's tractor turnaround went towards funding their Sheep shearing course.

I'm not surprised that Tom wanted to "explain" to Kirsty and justify his actions. That is what people do when there is a break up, the leaver tries to explain and thinks it is kinder to the leavee to have some sort of explanation. They try to be "nice". DH and I were saying this just the other day to eachother as we know someone who is breaking up with his wife and he hasn't tried to talk to her at all and couldn't give a shit. Harsh but maybe more honest. Mind you, he isn't confused and Tom does seem to be

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 28/04/2014 13:47

Cretaceous I think it's fine to wish ill on soap characters! In fact I'm sure doing so is a valuable psychological prop - given that we're not supposed to do it in RL.

And yes, another stroke is most likely for Peggy, whenever it happens.

TeenAndTween · 28/04/2014 13:55

I think Tom has behaved appallingly, but I do feel sorry for him.

John's death has cast a shadow on all his adult life, and even if not mentioned much on air, John is the golden child who in the fake memory of death can do no wrong.
Tom took over the business from John and hasn't really stopped to think since, just ploughing on to be bigger and better all the time.
Look how Tony said first how proud John would have been and then later on how disappointed. It's not Tom's job to fulfil the dreams of his dead elder brother, or his parents.
I think he would have gone through with it if not for the tractor. Poor Roy, I think it is reasonable for him to not have thought - it was so long in the past and he just didn't connect the dots.

I would like to see Tom go back to his eco-routes, get back together with Kirsty and go off saving the planet for a year.

Tony has got so used to thinking his Mum doesn't respect him, he now sees it at every turn even when it's not there.

Poor Helen she really shouldn't have admitted she knew Tom was having doubts.

Davros · 28/04/2014 14:08

Come on folks, Roy was a crap best man

guineapiglet · 28/04/2014 14:34

I am not sure I am buying the Jill returning to the roost at Brookfield story really, there has been a seemingly seamless transition.... probably means that dear Pip will not be returning to the nest any time soon. however I just don't buy Rooooth being so accommodating, there are years of spats etc between them and who would want their MiL living at such close proximity

Dragon

although David's comments about getting decent food 'beef and roasties' made me shudder too....

stealthsquiggle · 28/04/2014 15:09

Davros - couldn't agree more. Roy was useless and it makes me seriously question how good he is supped to be at his job.

stealthsquiggle · 28/04/2014 15:09

Supped? Supposed.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 28/04/2014 15:25

It was a slight weakness in the story - that anyone would choose their ex-fiancee's brother to be best man when they were marrying someone else. And the tractor thing was frankly unbelievable.

But they are working with limited resources I suppose - and the whole thing would have been less intense had they introduced random new "friends" just to make it more realistic.

MollyBdenum · 28/04/2014 15:51

I just finished Sunday's episode. I enjoyed the contrast between Brookfield and Bridge Farm, not just in the harmony, but in the way they handled their grief. The casual, loving references to Phil and inclusion of his memory at v the centre of the family home compared with the the return to silence over John because it is still too painful to talk about him unless in a moment of crisis.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 28/04/2014 16:04

I think I can make some fairly convincing bunting from the smileys:

HumphreyCobbler · 28/04/2014 16:11

It is the difference between losing someone at the end of a long and fulfilling life and losing someone who still had their life to live, isn't it? That thought makes me feel sorry for them all for possibly the first time

bunting = excellent

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 28/04/2014 16:51

Impressive Mimsy

Can't wait to see Pseudo's bunting for Darrell's leaving party. (If he ever does.)Grin
