Roll up roll up for The Wedding special from Catheter Hall. Is the lark flying high? Will Krusty jam that ring on the porky finger?

Ahhhh that sounds probable.

Lilymaid · 27/04/2014 20:21

Delighted that Kirsty has gone off to Costa Rica and really ltb!
Tom was really taken aback by this - he was expecting to be able to tell Kirsty all about his feelings rather than think about what he has done to her - as he can never see further than himself.
Moany Tony also seems to be just as self obsessed as his son.
Hope someone hacks into the Tom Archer Sausage Facebook page/website whilst he is moping!
Is there some reason why Costa Rica has appeared twice recently as a holiday destination (remember the Lilian/Matt saga) in difficult circumstances?

Abra1d · 27/04/2014 20:27

She is a very old lady after all and hasn't done anything wrong - this time. Or am I missing something?

I agree. She gave some sage advice to Tom and it was not for her to go blabbing away to Tony and Pat about what had been said, which was in confidence.

HumphreyCobbler · 27/04/2014 20:40

This is what I love about the Peggy/Tony/Tom relationship story - they are all horrible and unreasonable at different points. I think it is quite cunning writing. Peggy has pissed off Tony so much in the past that he is retaliating now he has some kind of leverage, even though there was nothing really wrong in what she did in not sharing Tom's worries with Tony and Pat.

JuniorMint · 27/04/2014 20:50

Ugh at Tom feeling sorry for himself over Kirsty going to Costa Rica with her mate- "she's never liked me" and something about Kirsty downing cocktails and slagging him off... Well yes, you've made your bed, now you have to lie in it!

Redcliff · 27/04/2014 21:31

You have all made excellent points about it still being "me me me" with Tom. Still think his parents need to give him a break but have lost some (most ) sympathy for him now .

Bluestocking · 27/04/2014 21:35

The "Typically Tom" response to the news that Kirsty has gone to Costa Rica with a gal pal was PERFECTION and should serve to destroy any lingering sympathy among the listeners!

Icimoi · 27/04/2014 21:37

Worrying now about this quote from Sean O'Connor in that Observer article:

"We have been thinking about the way fate can intervene in a life and ruin it, or make it. If you lose your business on a farm, you lose your home. It is true to the show and you don't have to be a farmer to see how things come from left-field."

Not sure I can take another family losing a farm, the Grundys being booted out was enough for me.

Bluestocking · 27/04/2014 21:41

I wouldn't mind seeing the Aldridges slip from their high-on-the-hog position.

Hmmm... Ici Do you think he has someone in mind? Not necessarily at Bridge Farm.

The new brooms at BL don't seem overly positive about either Debbie or Rob - but it sounds as if he's thinking of something bigger.... Who? Surely Brian, David and Ruth are beyond random, total ruination. And Pat and Tony have suffered quite enough? If Tom were to become bankrupt he could still live with them. Surley he couldn't bring down the entire farm?

Whenever Hardy is mentioned I think first of the Mayor of Casterbridge - the shame of your past actions catching up with you just when you thought you were safe. And trying to save one part of your life, thereby losing another. Or at least loss of power. Rather than a Jude situation...

OK, now I'm scared.

Bluestocking · 27/04/2014 21:58

Adam could hang himself, Debbie, Kate, Alice and the Roarer. Dun becos we wos too many.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 27/04/2014 21:59

GrinGrinGrin

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 27/04/2014 22:03

...but maybe not so funny.

Wasn't I saying just yesterday how Alice wouldn't see a whole heap of anything when it had to be divided five ways?

And Adam and Debbie are rightfully wary of Ruairi's claim....

Bluestocking · 27/04/2014 22:08

Sorry, it is a bit of a grim train of thought. Who knows what Brine and JDarling will actually have left over at the end of their long and extravagant lives to leave the five of them? Not that any of them should expect anything, mind you.
I wonder if SO'Cis warming us up for the re-entry of Son of John, with all that that implies in terms of inheritance.

TypicaLibra · 27/04/2014 22:13

How far is Ambridge from Stonehenge? .... in case I was to envisage a Tess-like scenario, maybe with Kirsty murdering Tom and then waiting dramatically at Stonehenge for the coppers to come and take her away.......

stayanotherday · 27/04/2014 22:24

They're an awful family. Use people, think they're better and blame everybody else. Kirsty is too good for Tom and that family.

PrincessFiorimonde · 27/04/2014 23:25

Grin at Bluestocking and the hangings!

ErrolTheDragon · 27/04/2014 23:29

I was delighted to hear that Kirsty is off on holiday. Probably better at this stage to go with a girl friend not Patrick.

Nice counterpoint to the Bridge farm wars with the Brookfield harmony (not quite literal yet from young Ben!)

stilllearnin · 28/04/2014 07:22

Listening last night, I too was thinking 'steady on Tony'. Peggy's very elderly and it's not her fault. But where is that relationship/ storyline going?

Loving your work on this thread btw!

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 08:00

I don't think Peggy is entirely blameless - the inheritance part she really didn't think of its effect on Tony and how that might affect his relationship with Tom, plus reinforcing his role as Heir, and also the house deposit - the timing of that must have fed into K&Ts reckless inflation of the wedding plans. To be sure she wouldn't have intended that but it wasn't very wise.

WillieWaggledagger · 28/04/2014 08:03

Gosh over 800 posts already.

I agree with whoever said how interesting the Peggy/tony/tom relationship triangle is. A good example of how people can behave both well and badly, and have noble or dodgy motivations for things, so we swing between sympathy and dislike in a very realistic way. They are the relatives that I would be trying to avoid sitting next to at family occasions!

PseudoBadger · 28/04/2014 10:48

Maybe Peggy and Moany will have simultaneous heart attacks during an argument?

No, I think that Tony will go NC with her, she will die and he'll be wracked with guilt.
I can't wait to see how Rob exploits Helen having NO friends now :(

Oh wow - I'm listening to a programme "Lives in a Landscape" R4 about a house and a family that is a perfect combination of Lower Loxley and Bridge Farm. Owned by a formidable matriarch supported by her various relatives.

It's fabulous listening.
