Roll up roll up for The Wedding special from Catheter Hall. Is the lark flying high? Will Krusty jam that ring on the porky finger?

I think Tom has always been a pretty unlikeable character - he has few redeeming qualities. And I think that Peggy for once not blindly supporting him - well it may be just what he needs. He needs to take a good long look at himself.

I did feel sorry for Helen though [amazed]

ExcuseTypos · 25/04/2014 20:00

I agree Everybody. My Sister went through with a wedding she shouldn't have. She was only 21 and her fiancé was a prize A idiot. We all tried to tell her she was doing the wrong thing but she didn't agree.

As she walked down the aisle she was crying, I thought it was maybe happy tears. She told me 6 months later it was because she knew she was doing the wrong thing but felt she had to go through with it.Sad

Ewieindwie1 · 25/04/2014 20:01

Can I ask, what did Kirsty do with the ring? Helen yelped something about 'not your ring'. Did she just take it off or fling it to a waiting Grundy?

And what about Hellin? She's lost her bestie....

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/04/2014 20:03

Willie - I wonder though how you would/any of us would feel if we felt our child had turned out to be a not very nice person which I think is what Tony feels.

Tom needs to leave Ambridge and go find himself somewhere.

LillianGish · 25/04/2014 20:03

Can't believe people are feeling sorry for him - he could have called it off at any point. He was the one who decided to propose ( under no pressure from Kirsty) he was the one who ramped up the festivities to the previously never mentioned and no doubt never to be mentioned again Cathridge Hall. I'm beginning to side with Tony - though actually I think they are quite similar (His petulant cow purchase springs to mind).

LillianGish · 25/04/2014 20:04

Hellin has been propelled further into the clutches of evil Rob.

Ewieindwie1 · 25/04/2014 20:05

That sad story about crying as you go down the aisle is exactly why Tom thinks he has been brave I suppose. So sad....

Having sneaky glass and a salty snack to see myself through emotional trauma....

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/04/2014 20:05

I thought Kirsty threw the ring in the bin.

Did anyone else feel Joe was a bit overwritten - I know he likes a free drink but I think he has shown empathy in the past and I just don't think he'd have been quite so heartless in that situation.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 25/04/2014 20:07

Willie, sadly children are not easy to train in that way. Once they are older you have more chance. As mentioned here many times, it was my son's birthday on one key night during the Brian/Siobhan story and he tiptoed in during the episode, asked through the medium of mime if he could have a packet of crisps and tiptoed out again to open it in another room. He's a good lad.

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/04/2014 20:08

Lilian I am with you. Also, I often think the relationships that are the hardest are with those who are most similar to ourselves - so Tom/Tony.

Ewie - I had to get my drink ready for 7pm to deal with the trauma.

ExcuseTypos · 25/04/2014 20:09

Will just add my sister is now happily married with 2 children. She had a very low key wedding the second time thank goodness

Scuttlebug · 25/04/2014 20:09

Thanks Mimsy. Definitely hope Kirsty hooks up happily with some good bloke and leave Tom to spend quality time with his pigs.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 25/04/2014 20:11

Just catching up with darling Eddie

'the Thing That Happened was...quite a Thing'

Made me LOL

Ewieindwie1 · 25/04/2014 20:12

Glad Mrs CB and I are propping up Roy's credit bar!

WillieWaggledagger · 25/04/2014 20:16

too true mrscb. and of course it was the first time they'd seen him since the event so had all the emotion and reactions all pent up

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/04/2014 20:16

Not heartless MrsCB - ime extreme age does tend to lead to a rather more practical outlook on life.

Think how many weddings he would have seen in his long Hardyesque life. I doubt that this was the most important or significant... And I'm sure he'd find the right wise and kindly thing to say to either Tom or Kirsty if he bumped into them.

R4 · 25/04/2014 20:18

Tom can't do right for doing wrong now. He doesn't want to be tied to the farm and the pigs. But if he leaves the family firm and Ambridge to 'find himself' then it will either look like running away with his tail between his legs or a pathetic attempt to copy Dan.

WillieWaggledagger · 25/04/2014 20:21

i have a female relative who was very close to a younger woman whose mum had died, and she sort of stood in the mother of the bride role at the woman's wedding (helped with dressing, went with her to the church etc)

after 10 years of very unhappy marriage, horrible break-up, acrimonious divorce and ongoing child contact difficulties, the woman admitted to my relative that on the steps of the church she had been willing relative to say 'you don't have to do this, we can get back in the car and drive away if you want'. relative hated the husband but thought she was happy and didn't want to spoil that! sad all round really

Icimoi · 25/04/2014 20:30

This thing about Tom feeling he can only get his parents' approval by becoming John - again, I don't really get it. It feels like something that has appeared more or less out of the blue to justify the current storyline, and it's not how Tom has been written over the last 10 years.

stealthsquiggle · 25/04/2014 20:32

Tony is every bit as self centered as Tom - and has just as much of a chip on his shoulder about his Mummy not loving him as Tom has about being the spare.

There is no one likeable at or from Bridge Farm TBH - even Henry is working on his annoyingness

Icimoi · 25/04/2014 20:37

I must admit to sympathising with Joe. It does seem a pity if all the Reception food just goes to waste, and if I'd flogged out to someone's wedding, bought the present and the hat etc, I'd expect a bit more than a sandwich at The Bull.

hagarthorne · 25/04/2014 20:57

The absolute star was Joe and his wistful indignant recital of the lunch menu.

Selks · 25/04/2014 21:02

Joe's quite right too! All that lovely food going to waste, could have at least let folk loose at it who might want it.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 25/04/2014 21:03

I muchly enjoyed PM's report on the situation too :)

Last night I felt sorry for both K and T. Mostly for K as she was so completely unaware of what was going to happen, but also for T because I know from experience what it is to feel like he did...

Tonight Tom was back to his usual, hateable self. Slimy, self-righteous bastard.

Selks · 25/04/2014 21:03

Hellin has still got Kirsty's expensive wedding dress, hasn't she? The one that Henry spilled juice over.
