Will this thread make it to the wedding? Will it outlive Tony?

I found the whole reaction to Ruth's pregnancy thing unrealistic - not one person has mentioned potential disabilities, despite Bethany Tucker being there to show that these are a very real risk indeed when a mother is in her mid forties. (Yes, Ruth mentioned very briefly that the GP had talked about pre-eclampsia and high blood pressure and "the things they screen for" but she appeared not to have thought of any of this before seeing the GP and has never vocalised the idea that she might have child with a disability). And Ruth is only 8 weeks along with a MUCH higher miscarriage risk than she had in previous pregnancies yet hasn't caveated any of her announcements with anything like " if things go OK" - surely it would be only right to explain to Josh and Ben that they can't be sure of anything for at least another month? She's already talking as if there will definitley be a healthy baby in 7 months' time. People don't even do that before 12 weeks in low risk pregnancies, do they?

Surely people would say these things, within family at least, in real life?

I do love a quiz!

  1. Do you listen
    a) every day and use the catch up function on line to keep bang up to date

  2. Do you
    c) ignore the maps and books and just make it up in your head

  3. If in need of organic yoghurt would you
    b) nip down the shop in the 5 minutes Susan opens it

  4. The Archer I would like to marry is
    a) Kenton

  5. The Albion is
    a) a new bell for St Stephens

Rob is definately the cold blooded abuser, i'd like to think that my Archers alto ego is Kate.

Pick the most suitable act for the Lower Loxley music festival
c) Wild Beasts

You have £20k to be spent on a round the world trip for educational or career development purposes. Who do you give it to?
d) Maurice (Research Project "The Souls of Animals".) - not of the others deserve it imo.

You and your beloved need a place of your own. Do you:
a) move into one of the bijou and charmingly decorated cottages on the farm for free?

FINALLY MY QUESTION...

How will Ruth's pregnancy end?
a) Tragically early
b) A beautiful baby girl called Jill
c) Double trouble in the form of twins
d) With a lamb

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2014 10:59

I didn't answer the quiz:

  1. nearly every day, sometimes use catch-up. Used to be more intermittent till these threads/under Vanessa

  2. make it up - but I do have a bookmark to the cast list page now as I seem to need to refer to it a lot!

3)Of that lot, Kenton obviously but pref. his little brother as per previous

  1. JDs kitchen (but waiting for someone to announce it's also a model of tractor)

Rob def cold-blooded abuser - if he was hot-blooded he'd have thumped Ian back and not tried to make up in the pub afterwards.

No idea about music festival except Fallon and Jolene must both perform.

House - build on the farm (I don't think it has existing bijou cottages)

Ruth - want d c but fear a.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 26/03/2014 11:13

GrinOutcome of Ruth's pregnancy? Definitely (d)!

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2014 11:51

Reminds me of this:

Mary had a little lamb.

The doctor fainted. Grin

Lomaamina · 26/03/2014 12:06

JessieMcJessie you expressed my thoughts up-thread, but much more articulately. I couldn't agree more. All this twittering about as if this is 100% good news is unrealistic. What about Ruth's breast cancer history? wouldn't she be concerned about the extra toll on her health? Yes, of course a baby born into a loving family is a blessing, but some realism please.

northender · 26/03/2014 13:35

Its lambing time too and that hasn't been touched on as a concern. I grew up on a farm and it would have been the first consideration. During my first pregnancy I was kept well away from the sheep when we visited at lambing time.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 26/03/2014 14:22

Well Ben was born after the breast cancer so she's been there before.

Somebody should have mentioned the lambing thing by now though - she's helped David in the lambing shed FGS. Maybe the agricultural story adviser is off sick Hmm

OddFodd · 26/03/2014 14:32

Yes it's very unrealistic that they've not voiced any concerns about the pregnancy whatsoever.

I'm really tempted to do a surveymonkey thing on the quiz because I love a good chart Blush

Cretaceous · 26/03/2014 15:10

Yes, The Archers has its roots in government propaganda, so the dangers of pregnant women being exposed to sheep might well be on the agenda. Agree with those who say about it being a strange omission so far... which leads me to suppose a dramatic introduction at a later point - after megaphone Susan has informed the whole village of the pregnancy. Just hope it's not a really depressing storyline, with weeks of uncertainly.

Love the quiz...

WipsGlitter · 26/03/2014 15:30

I think the blind joy at the impending baby can only spell doom - not a single mention of Bethany Tucker, or her cancer, or anything else. Or the please not a word until 12 week scan is over.

Selks · 26/03/2014 16:04

TheShimmeringPussycat, I'm smiling at you making your non-Archers-following family members play in character! Smile

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 26/03/2014 16:05

Does anyone else look at the teasers (ie spoilers) in the Radio Times? I just have. I will just say that it looks as if the next couple of weeks may be quite eventful.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 26/03/2014 16:31

Yes.....

(Now realise they're the same teasers as on the BBC website - duh!)

I've just searched for the boardgame on Amazon. Looks rather fun....

Eastpoint · 26/03/2014 17:17

Perhaps the script writers have forgotten about Bethany (not much mention of her recently), Ruth's age, Ruth's breast cancer, Nigel dying, Mark dying, hmm what else?

Really I'm just posting something on this thread so it appears on the 'Threads I'm on'. Sorry....

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2014 17:42

Perhaps the script writers have forgotten about Bethany (not much mention of her recently)

she was in a buggy being pushed around by Brenda very recently - they've not forgotten her.

KIrsty7318 · 26/03/2014 17:58

Has Brookfailed shrunk? Ruth started mirthering on about how they were already packed to the gunnels - Brookfailed was large enough to house Phil n Jill & four children, now it is crowded with three.

Maybe the flat above the shop has stolen some of the rooms. Remember the flat above the shop with the annex room that magically grew to proportions so vast that Ian had to spend six weeks painting the skirting board.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2014 18:01

I think the crowding was including Jill as a housekeeper permanent guest.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/03/2014 19:08

A lap dancing club!

Tommy · 26/03/2014 19:10

Rob is being such a

Shallishanti · 26/03/2014 19:11

hah! Jess didn't want to be a wife
(= wouldn't put up with his crap)

Graceparkhill · 26/03/2014 19:12

Oh for goodness sake Helen. Get off the blooming phone !

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 26/03/2014 19:15

Why is the stag night so early anyway? It's ages till the wedding isn't it?

Did Tom just fail to say what I thought he did(n't)?

Poor Kenton!
