Will this thread make it to the wedding? Will it outlive Tony?

I've been lurking on this archers thread for the last three incarnations... Just wanted to add my voice to the "argh Kirsty what are you doing brigade!" The building tension when tom went off to the bath, the increasing detachment he has from the whole process. Kirsty getting more and more into picking tiles... I think we are going to have a few more weeks of will he/won't he bail. Probably followed up by a heart to heart with a senior married man.

Ps I hope Kirsty does escape to the rainforest and go back to her Eco warrior roots instead of a new build in the midlands.

I have been following this thread since the first one (I used to read all the random Archers threads but this is much more satisfying, thanks Pseudo!) but as a result of this I have had to change the entire pattern of my life so I can keep up in real time because I used to be an omnibus listener and that just won't do now. I still struggle to keep up since selfish toddler DS has bath and bed at 7pm and so I have to wait for the podcast to be put up. Blardy BBC take their time about that too.

Kirsty sounds as though she is constantly trying to convince herself that she is happy but it is fooling no one. I hope they call it off. Nice Me wants them to stay together have children and be happy but never marry (daring and modern!). Selfish Me wants them to split up because they are unbearably dull as a couple.

I would shag Deayvid. Would marry Ian. Would push St Smugula off a cliff. Am struggling to think who my alter ego is - maybe Rooth's family / work ethic but with JD's cooking for big gatherings (I can dress a salmon with the best of them).

I looked up the Archers board game but sadly I would have no one to play with in real life except MIL and she thinks Rob is 'a bit old-fashioned but surely not as bad as [Birding] says' Hmm

I would marry Ian too but he wasn't on the list!!! Failing that I'd like him as a best friend.

An Archers thread! How have I missed this? Grin

Just caught up with last night episode on iplayer...who was it on the train!
Please let it be Rob the Nob!!

Kirsty is making a huge mistake! Keep wishing she would realise that Tom loves himself and his pigs more than her but at the same time I'm not sure I could handle him being even more woe is me if she left him! Or maybe he will call it all off after all?!

Have been an Archers fan for a couple of years now, its my little secret as some of my friends would probably think it was hilarious that I listen to it. Please tell me there are other young (well, 30ish) fans out there?

Yay willie! Will be telling DP later, he thinks I'm the only listener under 50 Wink

PS. where is Darrell? Accidentally locked in a shed somewhere never to be seen again?!

Coldteaagain I am 40 now but have been an avid listener since my childhood. In fact, there was a previous thread and also a big feature on the BBC Archers blog about when people started listening and a huge number had grown up with it. So plenty of young listeners I think. It's a shame that a lot of people think that Radio 4 is not for the young.

  1. Do you listen:
    a) every day (and sometimes twice, plus the omnibus just to make sure)

  2. Do you:
    b) have read the BBC tie in books and thus have a rough idea of the geography (dp turns my copy of Lynda Snell's Heritatge of Ambridge around so no-one can see it)

  3. If in need of organic yoghurt would you:
    Hate yoghurt

  4. The Archer I would like to marry is:
I just couldn't. I'd have Alan though, as long as he didn't mind me being an atheist and stopped going on about all that god stuff Smile

  5. The Albion is:
    d) a poncy kitchen - i can't be the only person who googled to see if it was actually a real 'thing' - can i?

Oh, and don't do it Kirsty.

I imagine Jazza passed the spiked drinks to Kenton.

Yes Jessie is such a shame that a lot of people think Radio 4 is just for older people, some great stuff on there.
DP has slowly come round to it, suspect he has started to secretly enjoy the odd episode of the archers when I have it on at teatime! He definitely knows who some of the characters are now Grin

Another lurker de-lurking here! I've been listening for about ten years - started around the time that Brian was having his affair with Siobhan, We are big R4 fans in our house though DH doesn't really like the Archers - he was mildly interested when Jamie Perks went off the rails, but now just talks through the omnibus! So I listen online as well.

I was once 28 and an Archers listener. Our Friday night 'thing' these days is to get Boy4 back from his swimming session before The News Quiz starts - no mean feat as ds is so so slow. I'm less keen on Now Show - then it's TA, a bit of Front Row, then Any Questions. I find Jonathon Dimbleby really annoying so I often have to shout at the radio. It's all such fun though. Loverly music on R3 just now too.

I reckon Helen will buy the posh frock off Kirsty when the nuptials don't happen. Then of course hers won't happen either, and she'll become a sort of Miss Havisham figure.

Had breakfast with that very naice Kenton Archer this AM - he was cold and a bit quiet due to his bad head, but otherwise okay. He's off back to the Midlands now ..... Ha, Mr B reckoned Kenton was off on the train to Cornwall. Just as well he knocked our door then. Grin

I too loved the scene with Brine and Ian's dad. Ian's dad was just great, wanting to do the right thing but not too sure how to do it.

Yeah, I was young once too. (This is a lie. I was born a middle-aged Archers fan...)

Perhaps Kenton far from home will dovetail into the BBC's Character Invasion on Saturday. Maybe he'll turn up as Kenton in some other show?

week ending was a bit before my time of regular listening, but i vaguely remember my parents listening (my dad used to irritate my mum by arriving home and sitting in the car for ages listening to the end of the comedy)

it's funny that they don't repeat it on R4extra - i'm sure they've done it with other topical comedies but maybe i'm wrong?

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2014 16:01

I'm listening it again on iPlayer. Jazzer neatly gave the spiked lager to Kenton, his own to Tom and drank the G&T himself. Presumably he similarly swapped subsequent rounds - honouring his quid pro quo with Tom to get time off.
