Helen described what she was cooking - he made no demur - when he came in he had a drama llama attack - can that be tuna? I can't stand the smell and taste of tuna! - Helen is aghast, points out she mentioned the tuna - he says he can't have heard that bit - she is apologetic and offers to make him an omelette - they eat tagliatelle (which she made herself!) with an arrabbiata sauce instead and once again all is well - until the next time.

Is this gaslighting?

PS Lovely thread title!

A masterclass in gaslighting.

I could have sworn they said penne arrabiata, the lovingly hand-stroked tagliatelle having been consigned to the dustbin, besmirched by fishy sauce.

Perfect gaslighting.

But who makes tagliatelle? I'm sure I'm aghast enough for all my fellow low carbing Archers fans :o

I must have led a very sheltered life- I really didn't know people did things like the pasta incident. Bizarre!

He wasn't really listening though was he when she ran through the list of ingredients? not that I want to let him off the hook or anything!

I just want it over and for her to be back in the bosom of Pat and Tony.

I thought he sounded quite hesitant when she listed their dinner on the phone so I am prepared to accept that he might indeed not like tuna . However the polite thing would have been to explain that he really appreciated her cooking for him but he didn't like tuna etc etc . Instead he threw a childish hissy fit that, had it happened in my kitchen , would have had said child sent to their room. What a twunt.

Yes I thought the pasta had changed. I wanted to weep for Helen; the thought of her spending the afternoon anticipating and evening lovingly hand making her perfect supper.

Heartbreaking. And very clever to make us feel sorry for someone so generally unappealing.

It is not true gaslighting, IMHO. He admitted he hadn't been listening, rather than denying she had told him in the first place.

But he has form, he did it to Jess.

Anyway, the reply should be "well I did tell you, so what are you cooking yourself instead? Well you should've listened then"

Rob has a fish problem.

First the salmon.
Now the tuna.

Helen was lucky not to have had it flung to the floor.

Poor Helen feels gillty now. She's a dab hand at pasta making when she gets the opportunaty. I think this relationship could get a shoal lot worse.

Rob chucked Jess's dressed salmon on the floor in a stroppy attempt to ruin her housewarming party not that long ago.

I think any pregnancy aspect to this SL would be a mistake, and would dilute its impact.
