Just don't be so careless with your watch Helen

For me

(Sid's first wife) Polly's death.

John. That was dreadful.

Shula on the phone to Mark as his car crashed. It was a stressful period at work for me, I was in the middle of breaking up with someone and very, very fragile and tense. It wasn't clear that Mark had died until the next episode. Once it was - I cried all week.

Ed and Emma's incredibly delicate and mature reconciliation. I cried with joy over that.Blush

ExcuseTypos · 19/02/2014 19:56

I also thought Helen was the bridal shop lady. I was most confused Grin

I found tonight's quite frankly, annoying. We've all had enough of water, water and more water in rl. I don't want to hear about it on TA too!

harrietspy · 19/02/2014 19:58

I was confused by bridal shop lady too.

How could I forget about John and Mark?

nauticant · 19/02/2014 20:02

John and Mark? Was that before Adam and Ian (or is it Steve)?

harrietspy · 19/02/2014 20:10

Not a couple. Sorry for the confusion. John died under tractor and in a completely unrelated incident and a different time, Mark (Shula's first husband) died in a car crash. Didn't that involve Caroline on a horse! too?

harrietspy · 19/02/2014 20:10

*horse, too. Errant exclamation mark!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 19/02/2014 20:18

Yup, the pushy bridal designer confused me too. I do hope the new editor will schedule a meeting with the casting director - really quite soon. Not only do they all sound the same, they almost all sound too smooth. It's only context that enables me to tell Adam and Kenton apart, or Mike and Neil sometimes.

nennypops · 19/02/2014 20:25

Why was Jolene whinging on so much about the money lost as a result of the flood? Surely they'd be insured?

JollyGolightly · 19/02/2014 21:17

Are vendors of wedding dresses really that pushy IRL? I found that scene clunky and embarrassing, but at least if she's spending all that on the dress they'll have to continue with the wedding at Bridge Farm and relinquish the Giltedge Hall plan.

SomethingOnce · 19/02/2014 21:46

Clunky and embarrassing pretty much defines the Archers these days.

nennypops · 19/02/2014 23:04

I do find it pretty unlikely that Kirsty would fall for all that sales talk. She's much more the sort of person who would trawl the vintage shops and find something like a 20s evening dress which would turn out to be just perfect and cost under £100.

CuttedUpPear · 20/02/2014 00:50

Oh I can never tell Moike and Neil apart.
And I thought the dress shop woman was Helen at first as well.

And I agree - the bridal credit card debt is so unlike Kirsty. Are we to suppose she has had a personality transplant? Such weak storyline.

SomethingOnce · 20/02/2014 02:37

Funny that they have different characters who sound so similar, yet couldn't manage a seamless Tony replacement.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 20/02/2014 02:58

Strangely, although the previous actor who played Tony was ill himself, I had often felt that his voice was almost too youthful for the part.

Although it was hard to adjust to a new actor I do actually think this voice is more realistic. He sounds old! So I feel sorrier for Tony now because his miserableness seems more justifiable.

(And I have to disagree about the clunkiness. There are still moments of that but on the whole I'd say TA has suddenly become sharper and wittier than I've ever known it to be.)

WillieWaggledagger · 20/02/2014 05:39

We haven't heard will's reaction to the puppy going home and I wondered whether that had even sacrificed to floods. Though Ilof course there could be something new completely that we're missing for endless ruth

nauticant · 20/02/2014 08:22

Are we to suppose she has had a personality transplant?

If some women didn't have personality transplants when planning their weddings where would AIBU be?

PseudoBadger · 20/02/2014 08:59

SomethingOnce clunky and embarrassing until about 6 weeks ago, much improved now (by popular opinion).

OP posts:
SomethingOnce · 20/02/2014 12:18

Well, I have unpopular opinion then Grin

I've been listening a very long time and I liked it more in the 80s. I still miss Nelson Gabriel, and find pretty much everyone, except the glorious bounder that is Brian, fairly annoying.

Shallishanti · 20/02/2014 12:58

oh yes, I loved Nelson- he had style

ppeatfruit · 20/02/2014 14:22

Yes Shalli I also liked the incredible contrast between the urbane Nelson and his 'country bumpkin' father 'me ole pal me ole beauty' Walter!

ComposHat · 20/02/2014 15:28

Our cat was named after Walter Gabriel when I was a little un (sadly he only lived a few months before dying of leukemia)

Our current furry darling came with a name (poppy)
or she'd have got an Archers name too. *

*I know that is our Wyllyerm's daughter's name but the feline poppy predates the fictional infant.
