New thread for the beginning of the pheasant season.

Yeah silly me fluffiphlox Grin They have started using their mobiles now though (it took quite a while)

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2013 13:21

Up till now Ed has generally been a more sympathetic character than Will, but frankly its not surprising the latter is a surly git.

What will George say? Will this be the start of him hating Ed?
I'd have thought so. Emmur will probably try to make some excuses but George will be inconsolable.

ppeatfruit · 29/11/2013 14:49

Yes Errol and who was the clever clogs who forecast the trouble between the brothers flaring up again over the dawgs?

BasketzatDawn · 29/11/2013 17:04

I like Ed, I feel quite sad about what may happen next.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 17:06

Well it didn't take the brains of Einstein to work out what would happen did it? Wink There were more flags than at a flag convention

Missed it last night. But I can work out what happened.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2013 17:11

People do sometimes make it sound as though their glasses have got less effective rather than their eyesight having got worse though, don't they?

As to the SW not talking to real old people, if they ever interact with the cast they do - most are at least as old as their on-air personae.

I often listen to the repeat if I'm still in the kitchen at 2pm but I had to turn it off today.

So.... next bet is what embarrassing misprint will be found in Appetizing Ambridge?

OddFodd · 29/11/2013 18:28

I reckon people will be up in arms at Linda's 'improvements' to their recipes

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2013 18:34

How about 'Appetizing' Errol :o

OP posts:
BasketzatDawn · 29/11/2013 19:12

I have this notion though that the SWs never do meet the actors. Not sure why, as I don't think I know one way or other.

Surprise, surprise. Darrell gets his books. Did anyone really think he was fit to work? Tis a good epi tonight, lots of ends tied up. I HATE Will's voice though I am sorry his dug got killed.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 29/11/2013 19:18

Emma was v sympathetic tonight which made a refreshing change

If Will's not careful he'll turn everybody against him, not Ed. Eddie knew it was an accident - nearly dark, Ed tired & stressed - if Will refuses to believe his own Dad people will not be impressed.

Sad situation.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 29/11/2013 19:21

& Will forcing Emma to decide whether he should bury the dog or not was sadistic

I know he has plenty of reason for being angry with Ed but god, for everybody else's sake he should learn to let it go

He would benefit from CBT Grin

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 29/11/2013 19:25

and Ed wanted to pack up & go much earlier but Eddie insisted on carrying on

So it's partly Eddie's fault too, I hope he tells Will that

BasketzatDawn · 29/11/2013 19:43

Will doesn't have a great track record for taking on someone else's opinion/changing his mind though. I feel sorry for Ed, he is clearly upset. Och well, it's only a story, apparently. Grin

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2013 20:00

But was it an accident? Really? Really? :o

Silly Eddie, taking your son out to cheer him up with a shotgun...

OP posts:
TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 29/11/2013 20:20

Yes REALLY!!! Grin

Ed would not have shot George's dog on purpose (I know it was
Will's but Ed knew how fond George was)

fluffiphlox · 29/11/2013 20:57

What I don't understand is how two brothers have totally different accents and their communal son, brought up in the same village, sounds like a posh child actor?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2013 21:04

No one can 'accidentally' shoot a dog Hmm. It may have been an 'accident' that it happened to be Will's dog but Ed shot the dog deliberately, just for being a dog, with Eddie telling him not to. Sad

Emma behaved much better than I'd anticipated. I don't think Will was out of order to ask her about the burying - its one of those things where she'd know best whether George would want to be there (kids do sometimes).

How about 'Appetizing' Errol
perfectly acceptable spelling - I work for a US company so tend to use the z rather than s. Whereas altering the chutney spicing Shock - Lynda has chutzpah to tell Shula that it will taste better her way! Grin

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2013 21:06

I thought that chutney scene was very out of character - I don't think Lynda would be so rude.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 29/11/2013 22:13

Of course the shooting itself wasn't accidental! But Ed didn't know it was Will's dog when he shot, & he's been obsessive about dogs harming his cows for weeks.

& Will was completely out of order demanding from Emma an immediate decision on burying the dog - he could have waited a few hours. He was too concentrated on punishing Ed. He had no concern for George's feelings. Twat.

R4 · 29/11/2013 23:10

Talking of re-hashing old plots, isn't this David / bovine disease / red mist / badgers updated for the next generation?

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/11/2013 23:29

Could Ed face criminal charges for shooting the dog as it wasn't actually worrying any livestock.

He did mean to shoot a dog, just unfortunate it was Baz.

Agree Emma was very sympathetic - she is really getting fed up with Ed isn't she?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2013 23:30

Yes, but in this case the consequences will rumble on much further into the future. David I think got prosecuted and fined, end of; this has further stoked the sibling hatred which will go on for decades!

PseudoBadger · 29/11/2013 23:32

I think so MrsC

Could Ed face criminal charges for shooting the dog as it wasn't actually worrying any livestock.

'Can a farmer legally shoot a dog?
Section 9 of the Animals Act 1971 provides that the owner of livestock, the landowner or anyone acting on their behalf, is entitled to shoot any dog if they believe it is the only reasonable way of stopping it worrying livestock. Such action must be reported to the local police within 48 hours.'

Ed acted illegally; I think he could be prosecuted(damage to 'property'); the RSPCA might investigate him; and if the police are involved (which they should be) then he might lose his firearms licence. If he'd shot a stranger's dog in these circumstances he'd be getting all those books thrown at him for sure, but Will hasn't mentioned anything like this yet.

ReallyOverThis · 30/11/2013 04:17

Yep, he absolutely meant to shoot the dog. I find it distasteful that he's so racked with guilt because it was Baz when he was practically full of glee when he thought it was a random person's pet. Serves him bloody well right. Alastair had already very clearly told him that the chances of dogs having it unless they'd had direct contact with contaminated "birth materials" were microscopically low. Being a farm type dog, Baz is probably slightly more likely than average to carry it, so Ed should actually be consistent and stand by his principles.

However my reading of the "it was an accident" line spun to Emma and Will is that it was an accident that a dog not a rabbit was shot. But Ed had said too much about dogs for that one to fly.

Ed's obsession with dogs is to me a much better mental illness storyline than the Darrell one. His whining about the feed bill was really annoying - if he gets that upset every time a routine expense has to be paid he should not be running a business. He'd be better off swallowing his pride and getting a job working for another dairy farmer- the mega dairy may be a stretch but there must be other dairy farmers around.
