..does Ruraidh have an irish accent?????????

OP posts:
redrobin · 23/08/2010 20:02

his mother Siobhan was irish (she had affair with Brian, then tragically died of cancer and jennifer darling nobly took him in).

seeker · 23/08/2010 20:15

I know - but he's been living with the Aldridges since he was 3 with only occasional trips back to Ireland. And going to school with George and all the others. Which is another impossibilty - Brian's som at the local atate primary? Hmmmmm!

ah yes! you are right! how could he live with jenny and not pick up her vowels! if he had picked up a grundy accent, bet he's in the posh school pronto! that's going to annoy me too now.

Habbibu · 23/08/2010 20:59

If you lived with Jennifer, would you not make the effort to sound as different from her as possible?

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 23/08/2010 21:03

Yes, I cannot believe that, living with the Aldridges, Ruaridh would speak anything but RP. But, then, Ambridge residents have a bizarre assortment of accents - can the Grundy boys really be siblings? - presumably intended to make it easier to tell them apart.

Lilymaid · 23/08/2010 21:19

The reason is that the boy who acts Ruaridh is Irish - which was fine when Ruaridh first turned up in Ambridge, but hardly convincing several years on when he should be speaking broad Borsetshire or like Jennifer and Brian. The poor little boy always sounds like a dalek when he does have a few lines - his contract should be terminated for authenticity, but when was the Archers ever authentic?

traceybath · 23/08/2010 21:22

Its a topic of great bemusement on the archers message boards too Grin

But what is going to be the big xmas/new year story line thats 'going to shake ambridge to its core' - its got to be helen and the baby hasn't it?

Lilymaid · 23/08/2010 21:25

I suspect it will be something to do with artichokes.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 23/08/2010 21:29

I'm still Confused at coming back from holiday and suddenly Alice and Christopher are getting married and Jennifer's going along with it!

How on earth did that happen?!

traceybath · 23/08/2010 21:32

'I'm related to a Horrobin' - best line for a long time Smile

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 23/08/2010 21:33

Me too, WWWY. I missed three weeks and am completely Confused.

What news about Helen's [phantom, according to the last Archers thread I read] pregnancy?

traceybath · 23/08/2010 21:35

Helen has announced her pregnancy to all - well Vicky, Susan and Peggy. Vicky was understanding, Susan scandalised and Peggy shocked and upset.

Jennydarling is going along with the marriage but is not happy and wishes Alice had married someone from the 'county-set'. Jennydarling has totally forgotten her own background it seems.

LadyBiscuit · 23/08/2010 21:38

There's a scan photo of Helen's baby so definitely not phantom (sadly for the poor child).

I reckon the news that's going to rock Ambridge is that Kenton is going to dump Cathy and run off with Kirsty. Which isn't that shocking

And Ruraidh's accent is absurd. I hadn't heard him talk for ages until today and was muttering at the radio

AirHairLair · 23/08/2010 21:39

I am loving TA atm - Jenny's snobbery, Susan's social climbing. Wondering what will happen to mad Helen and the baby. and of course the ultimate teaser that is the artichoke quiche.

well not that last one, obviously.

traceybath · 23/08/2010 21:39

Well I've read the theory that something awful is going to happen to Helen's baby and she'll then snatch Emmas.

But that was a theory on bbc messageboards so who knows.

I would actually like Helen and her baby to be ok really. Poor Pat has had so much to deal with.

Bumperlicious · 23/08/2010 21:40

Been listening to the Archers on and off for about a year now and I still can't figure out who's who? Or who's related to who!

EdgarAllenPop · 23/08/2010 21:42

ruari went to the local state primary because some other members of family wre going there (can't remember which) and they thought it would help him settle in better.

agree any Irish accent is ridiclous - children lose/gain accents really quickly...

love the new storylines though. love them and want their babies...

EdgarAllenPop · 23/08/2010 21:43

bumperlicious - not massive no more? are congrats in order?

try the site for storylines

WhatsWrongWithYou · 23/08/2010 21:44

Archers family tree.

snice · 23/08/2010 21:44

he goes to school with Nigel and Elizabeth's twins- there appear to be no decent prep schools in the whole of Borsetshire so they all go to the CofE village primary

snice · 23/08/2010 21:45

wasn't there some spculation that there was going to be a murder in the Archers?

LadyBiscuit · 23/08/2010 21:46

I shall be sad if Emmerr miscarries as a result of JennyDarling's quiche. Still, another reason to hate the crashing snob I suppose

EdgarAllenPop · 23/08/2010 21:47

in fact it said so on the Beebs website..

traceybath · 23/08/2010 21:48

Jenny and Brine did discuss prep for Rory didn't they but decided as he'd met the twins once he should go to school with them Hmm

He is a very biddable child though and doesn't impact on their lifes very much at all Wink

I have a bad feeling about Em's pregnancy.

A murder you say - rubs hands with glee.

Bumperlicious · 23/08/2010 21:49

Not yet edgar, just changed when someone pointed out the irony when I was whinging at everyone commenting on how huge I am Grin. Still 4 weeks to go at which point I will be ElephantineBumperlicious Grin
