Bumperlisious, I've been listening since I was in utero and I still don't know who every one is or wtf is going on.

LadyBiscuit · 23/08/2010 21:58

God I've realised I've been listening for 25 years. That's tragic

EdgarAllenPop · 24/08/2010 19:08

whinge away bumpers - i think its the only vice pregnant womn are really allowe to indulge in properly!

OMG todays Archers...Jennydarlng mortified, Brian adamant (well done, he really is coming up smelling of roses in this one) that she needs to face up to Alice & Christopher as a reality.

Susan is being appalling isn't she?

seeker · 25/08/2010 08:50

I loved Jennifer's "I don;t know how involved he's going to be in our family life" (or words to that effect)

He's your son in law, woman! I bet she would have done Basty Thing's washing!

To be fair to JD, it is a weird set-up. Her son-in-law will be around but her daughter won'tConfused.
Also, Basty Thing would have done it Properly so everyone had plenty of time to get their heads round the idea. The Aldridge Carter Pig Breeding Enterprise was rather sprung on her unannounced!

champagnesupernova · 25/08/2010 11:21

Loving this thread

Please can somone tell me jennydarling's background then?

I know she was a bit of a tart slapper one in her youth but that's all.

Lilymaid · 25/08/2010 11:30

JD (daughter of Peggy and Jack Archer - not Jack Woolley but the alcoholic landlord of the Bull in the distant past). Led a wild, for Archers standard, life in teenage years culminating in birth of Adam - and JD would not reveal who the father was. She then married Roger Travers-Macy and had Debbie, divorced him to marry Brian and then had Kate and Alice. Had some half baked career as a journalist (probably for the Echo) before she succumbed to being a rich farmers wife with swimming pool and being snobbish about people below her station.

kathrynharriet · 25/08/2010 11:31

Who is the father of Emma's baby? Seemed to have missed that bit! x

seeker · 25/08/2010 11:34

Presumably Ed - or have I missed something? Or.....Oh, bloody hell, how's this for a twist....is it...Josh's? Or Jamie's?

OP posts:
R4 · 25/08/2010 11:40

Do you mean Emma's first baby? I think that it was covered quite extensively ...Wink

LOL at Josh. Jamie is finding solace with Fallon IIRC.Grin

WhatsWrongWithYou · 25/08/2010 12:31

Emma shagged Ed as a one-off - can't remember how this came about. Then there was a tragic scene before her wedding with him pleading with her or her pleading with him - one or the other.

She then couldn't keep up the pretence with Will any longer and they got back together (meaning he dumped Fallon). She insisted 'she just knew' George was Ed's baby but there was a paternity test which proved that Will was actually George's dad.

Think I've got that vaguely correct.

champagnesupernova · 25/08/2010 12:45

emmer/ed/will triangle back story to July 2008 (we need more, beeb, dammit)

thefirstmrsDeVere · 25/08/2010 12:53

I am so glad it wasnt just me that was bemused by the artichokes! It was the radio equivilant of prolonged camera shot an important prop. They must have said 'artichoke' at least 10 times! I dont believe I have heard it before on TA.

I have been listening for years and I still get everyone's surnames mixed up.

I do know that the females specialise in passive agression (even netmums could pick up a few tips) and that Jennifer is a long suffering snob with a marter (I cant bloody spell IT!) complex.

Pip has a very annoying voice and Susan is turning into a right pain.

Kenton is a twat with a Peter Pan complex.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 25/08/2010 13:15

Loving 'Will pummels Ed' Smile.

traceybath · 25/08/2010 14:46

Oh I think Kenton is alright and has been good with Jamie. And Cathy - well honestly - Sid was a horrid character and she is being extremely annoying.

Brian and Siobhan was my fave storyline Grin

Will is being turned into a total psycho and I wouldn't be surprised if he does something really dreadful soon.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 25/08/2010 14:51

Yes, I like Kenton - much prefer him to the drippy whining Cathy.
I thought one of his finest moments was turning up at a fancy dress party as FrankNFurter - liked him since then.

I only dip in occasionally now, so not aware of recent developments particularly.

thefirstmrsDeVere · 25/08/2010 17:48

You see! I meant Cathy NOT Susan. I really have been listening for years.

They all sort of blur into one big moan.

I cannot agree that Kenton is a good egg. He is a wally.

traceybath · 25/08/2010 18:08

LOL MrsDev - I was a bit surprised when you said Susan was 'getting' annoying as she's been a pain in the proverbial forever Grin

I find the ednemmur storyline totally nauseating. One minute he was a crack addict and then overnight he's the bestest herdsman in the west Hmm

Poor clarrie.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 25/08/2010 22:39

The 'Ed in search of artichokes' thing is really irritating me - isn't anyone going to put him out of his misery and tell him supermarkets (even Underwoods food hall, surely) them in jars all year round? I've actually got a tin of them at the back of my food cupboard I'll gladly send him if it'll shut him up?

CoffeeCrazedMama · 25/08/2010 22:40

Sorry that should be 'sell them in jars' - must learn to preview! Blush

zisforzebra · 25/08/2010 22:55

I know Coffee, everytime I hear someone say "Oo, they're terribly hard to get hold of" I shout "just go to Waitrose!"

Will is sounding crazier by the day isn't he!

seeker · 26/08/2010 06:17

But jenny told him ringht in the beginning they came in jars!

101damnations · 26/08/2010 09:24

Poo,I missed it yesterday.I listen to it whilst doing people's gardens and can guarantee at 2pm,someone will come along and want a chat just as The Archers begins. It doesn't matter that I'll already have been there for hours,no,at 2pm I'm sure to be interrupted.I have missed the entire artichoke debacle it seems.

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/08/2010 09:26

perhaps they are being sponsored by the artichoke growers association
