Basl, could you put pics on a trail please? How much would you be wanting?

for many many reasons I meant it quite light heartedly, I'll probably get shot down now but here goes....

My sister is so so so so soft with my Nephew, it drives me INSANE and she has always always bought him velcro shoes, to the extent of going out of her way to get them. He is shortly going to secondary school.....and has no idea how to fasten a lace. Although now he has football boots and so think he has had to give it a go. By the way he has NO special needs whatsoever, just wraps his mum round his little finger, and she treats my niece very very differntly. So I probably have a hang up of not wanting my son to be like his cousin and velcro shoes are just part of it.

Also, I usually work in schools and I HATE it when they sit there undoing it over and over and then stick it to the carpet and RIIIIIIIIP it off again. Very irritating. LEAVE YOUR SHOES ALONE. Then sometimes when they go to get up they fall over as they've stuck themselves to the carpet.

I prefer the look of a buckle or a lace and I hate the fluff that gathers on velcro. Also, on myself for example, I would have to pull it that far over it is hangong down over the other side of the shoe and onto the floor.

Oh AND I hate that nearly always in say Clarks, that's the only choice there is generally.

There!! All silly pet hates really, but it just seems that I am always drawn to a shoe without it for DS.

Dunoon, have either of you got any rough plans as to what you will maybe do together?

nappyaddict · 26/11/2009 13:39

I preferred laces when DS was smaller as well cos he couldn't take his shoes off then

janx · 26/11/2009 13:40

FlyMeToDunoon · 26/11/2009 13:47

I am confused really. If I was near my family and friends in scotland I would think about applying as a teaching assistant. I would have the support network to arrange casual childcare. I don't really have that where I live now.
I feel as if I should rush out and get a full time job somewhere, anywhere to bring the money in but without childcare and support it doesn't seem feasible.
I am not sure if DP has a firm idea of what he wants to do. There are lots of ideas floating around but which one is best?
It's going round and round in my head.

maxybrown · 26/11/2009 13:50

Yes there is that 5in, I agree, but my nephew is 11. I have known children in Reception be able to do it, then I have known children in Reception not know their own name, all varies so much! At least he had his trousers on

OMG Jan did I not even put my addy on those emails I sent you? After all that.......losing the plot totally. Will look at jumpers in a min oh and measure DS

maxybrown · 26/11/2009 13:53

Jan did you measure the arm from the neck or the seam on shoulder?

FlyMeToDunoon · 26/11/2009 13:53

I think DD1 learnt to do laces around yr2 as she did tap dancing and had to tie the laces on her tap shoes. However she was doing buckles for ages.

maxybrown · 26/11/2009 13:56

Yes buckles are another one to learn aren't they?

Jan I think they will be too small They are quite a bit smaller than a Boden baby jumper I have here.

nappyaddict · 26/11/2009 14:02

Dunoon is DD2 at school yet or just DD1?

BexieID · 26/11/2009 14:18

maxybrown · 26/11/2009 14:30

Thanks Bexie will measure myself now (well not me personally you know what I mean!!) and check they are ok

FlyMeToDunoon · 26/11/2009 14:37

nappyaddict DD2 has just started at school this september. DD3 is doing three mornings at nursery. She will have two years at nursery since her b.day is in september.

nappyaddict · 26/11/2009 15:00

So if you did want to be a TA childcare wouldn't be too much of an issue since DD3 already does 2 mornings anyway? Was she 3 in September? That means in January you are entitled to 15 hours free nursery for her. If she went to a childminder or private nursery those 15 hours don't have to coincide with morning or afternoon session like they do on a school nursery or preschool either. Also if a school nursery does both morning and afternoon session you can use 2 sessions a day and just pay for the lunch supervision in between.

Knickers0nMaHead · 26/11/2009 15:02

Hope this works, here is a pic of my new macNot very good quailty because it was from my phone,oh and it has the bag from basl on!!!!

FlyMeToDunoon · 26/11/2009 15:06

The local nurseries are not attached to schools. The one she goes to is from 9.00-12.00 so that the vouchers cover some but not all of the time. For instance for her three mornings it is £77 for the january term. Of course she could go 5 mornings but that still leaves me with childcare to find for 5 afternoons, plus someone to take her to nursery as I expect I would be starting work before 9am.
It is the usual push/pull of wages versus childcare costs.

FlyMeToDunoon · 26/11/2009 15:07

It's just coming up your login page knickers. I am going to post office after school run btw

nappyaddict · 26/11/2009 15:11

Aren't there any nurseries that do both mornings and afternoons near you? Childminders around here are between £2.50 and £3 an hour and preschools are about £6 per 3 hour morning or afternoon session.

Knickers0nMaHead · 26/11/2009 15:14

try again

StrictlyKatty · 26/11/2009 15:18

nicolamumof3 · 26/11/2009 15:24

Tates nursery the same only mornings OR afternoons only the private ones offer all day and you are talking £50 upwards per day for that!!

maxybrown · 26/11/2009 15:51

£6 for 3 hours? Wow!!! I would send DS Mind you playgroups/preschools are cheaper aren't they, but average at around £15/16 for the morning!!

Oh bum Nicola.

FlyMeToDunoon · 26/11/2009 16:45

I don't think there is an easy solution.

Bum Bum Bum Nicola!
