Hello and welcome!

OP posts:
carrielou2007 · 05/10/2009 22:15

I hated the bee, dd looked like she was in a doll's buggy but then I hated the xt when she was small but love it now.

Dd said only a handful of words at 2, no trouble with her ears as I checked/tested her almost weekly to make sure then at 2.2 she suddenly had this amazing vocab and now she still blows me away with her speech. Yet she still can't really do a poo in the loo and struggles to catch something when her little friends all manage it well.

nicolamumof3 · 05/10/2009 22:17

don't even go there with poo-ing we are having a nightmare with tate! but i won't bore you with the gruesome details.

maxybrown · 05/10/2009 22:18

aww sweet. Makes me very sad as feel I am letting him down big time. I know it's not my fault...

He sometimes sings, just la la la la la you get the idea!

We just can't afford nursery. I rang a childminder who was really nice, but basically, because we can only afford a couple of mornings we would pay more so she was only a little bit cheaper than the Nursery But I understand he would be taking a full place up.

I am going to start taking him to a swimming session for toddlers where they do singing and things too in the water plus to a soft play thing as that will allow him to burn some energy, plus it is just for toddlers between 10 and 3. Hopefully he will like those things.

scattykatty · 05/10/2009 22:19

I want DS out of nappies, he seems to wake up wet every morning at the moment I've switched today to Huggies to see if that helps.

nicolamumof3 · 05/10/2009 22:24

i've got no desire to potty train luka having only just done tate!

do you got to any groups i have to force myself too! i hate it but the boys love toddler group.

maxybrown · 05/10/2009 22:25

Sk I can count on one hand what DS can say - then he can say mostly animal noises or just noises.

When the NNEB (?) came to see him she was bit dumbfounded really as her job is normally my job (know what she was going to suggest etc) so she came with things to help encourage speech and we already were playing with them when she arrived.

She has referred him to SALT to make a decision about him. He doesn't say Mummy or daddy even he was trying today, when I was hanging the washing out he was running up the garden shouting "mumumumumum" to show me something, which is an improvement.

Anything he says anyone could understand him, no translating. I am sure the little so and so is just keeping it all in.

When he was about 13 months he said on the phone to my mum "hello Grandma" (not as precise as that) but no mistaking what he said. We have also heard him say Daddy as clear as day but that was ages ago and nothing since. It is so despairing.

scattykatty · 05/10/2009 22:26

I go to Musical Muchkins, Crafty Tots and Baby French, hoping to start swimming in Nov and got to a huge soft play centre once or twice a week.

nicolamumof3 · 05/10/2009 22:28

oh it is frustrating i really really know where you're coming from. I know alot of people will shoot me down in flames for this but i've found TV has helped luka too! he says postman pat, chuggington (!), beebies, etc!

scattykatty · 05/10/2009 22:29

What are the word games Maxy? I really want to encourage DS.

carrielou2007 · 05/10/2009 22:29

I've never been able to take dd to any groups as have always worked mon-thur and nothing runs on a fri. I'm not really 'trendy' enough anyway wearing my same next jeans I've had for 100 years iykwim and some of the ladies are scary!!

Potty training has been hard going with dd and still not cracked with the poo (nice) can't wait until jan when she will go to playgroup, I think she will LOVE it.

maxybrown · 05/10/2009 22:31

Oh I am so relieved to hear yo say that Nicola - I HATE going too. I will force myself to start going again. the one i was going to is a bit far really so need to find a nearer one. there is one that I know of but the childminder sometimes goes there and she said they don't even sing so not sure what they do??

My biggest problem is that each activity involves me getting a bus, so I have to add £4 onto each thing.

carrielou2007 · 05/10/2009 22:32

Nicola dd hardly watches kids tv but loves a few things so when one day I said do some counting with mummy and she huffed at me and counted to ten in spanish I know she is watching too much learing from Dora!!!

nicolamumof3 · 05/10/2009 22:35

Thats a shame Maxy i am lucky here in my town theres alot to do, soft play, lovely swimming pool, i go to toddlers at church where they go to nursery, theres activities most days (if you can afford it!) but i hate striking up conversation. I keep meaning to arrange to meet a lady who i met at swimming lessons she has little boy Tates age and just had another little boy in the summer.

maxybrown · 05/10/2009 22:41

mainly Sk they use RP things cups of tea feed teddy etc etc etc you get the drift?? I have other things here too but bit heavy for typing! It is all very very basic really. I have done so many speech therapy programmes at school i should know them in my sleep but they never seemed to work tbh. I dunno

But look, children years and years ago managed to talk and didn't go to toddler groups either.....sigh!

maxybrown · 05/10/2009 22:43

I don't know what it is. i can talk to anyone, really, I am not shy at all. I feel almost forced to and hate that. DS loves other children. I am trying to find out about another group, it also runs in the holidays.

nicolamumof3 · 05/10/2009 22:46

That would be good then maxy, i hate it in the hols when everything stops.

i do think it helps them to be around other kids, years ago i think neighbours mixed alot me, when we were young we played out in street and in/out of each others houses like a big extended family. Im only friendly with our next door and neighbours up the road but none have young kids.

maxybrown · 05/10/2009 22:52

Yeah was going to say that about "playing out"!! There are a couple of families with children on our street.........but best avoided if I am honest!!!! Well one family is too old but the other leaves a lot to be desired!!

the people we are friendly with are old!

BexieID · 05/10/2009 23:28

Me moving to Scotland when Tom was 3 months old I made it my mission to meet other mums by joining a breastfeeding class, baby massage, 2 toddlers groups and a music class.

maxybrown · 05/10/2009 23:37

Bexie that fills me with dread, really and truly!!!

BexieID · 05/10/2009 23:41

I know what you mean as I hate doing that sort of thing really. Hated presentations at school/college.

nicolamumof3 · 06/10/2009 06:11

Morning all! Bad night and early morning great!!

I think its when i had Luka i thought right we need to do this...and i started going to things.

When i had Tom i had post natal groups and it was easier i was younger and i met two really nice friends one im still in touch with now but she has moved away.

Going to list berries buggysnuggle on ebay i really need a waterproof one.

maxybrown · 06/10/2009 07:52

Hmmm.....I can't wait until my third I'll never get there lol!

There is a thing in my area called family info link, they can tell you all sorts of info and provide help etc. I emailed them last night saying DS really needs to go somewhere, that we can't afford nursery and asked if they could get the info on the toddler group that runs during hols. There is nothing about it annywhere but I know it exists!!

Rain here today but not as cold. Post office trip later and man coming to tell us how many millions it will cost to fix our front door at 4 Hope it isn't too bad as we stripped all our hall a few weeks ago to decorate as I couldn't cope any longer with the scabby paper from previous owbers but don't want to decorate if the door has to come out!

nicolamumof3 · 06/10/2009 08:32

v.mild here just popped out to lidl for fruit and bread taking luka to nursery in 20mins.

scattykatty · 06/10/2009 09:18

Oh it's raining here I wanted to wash my sheets too but only if I can hang them out.

I find the totddler groups here hard as the children and decked out head to tow in Petit Bateau and they look at DS like he's a street urchin wearing Boden

Noone spoke to me for MONTHS til one day it rained and DS wore his Petit Beateau raincoat, then people came up and said 'oh doesn't he look lovely' 'PB Raincoats are the best' etc. I couldn't believe it!

DH was so annoyed when I told him, one raincoat suddendly makes you good enought to speak to!

scattykatty · 06/10/2009 09:28
